So when I found this…read moreKilwins close to my hotel in Clearwater, close to the beach, I had dreams of walking the shoreline enjoying my cone. The reality was a mediocre-tasting ice cream that melted before I made it to the end of the block. I'm no ice cream expert, but I have to imagine it's the brand or recipe they use since that wasn't my experience from other ice cream spots we visited. The best waffle cone smelled better than it tasted but still got the job done. At the end of the day, the service was quick and friendly from the teen behind the counter, and it got the job done. Frankly, there are better options, but if you're passing by and need a fix, you won't go wrong with Kilwins but it deserves its 3.6 rating.

As soon as we walked in I noticed how clean it was. I ordered a Taro boba tea and a Pandan waffle. The tea was good but the waffle was the star of the visit. When the guy at the register started making the waffle the whole shop was filled with this beautiful, yummy smell. I knew it was going to be good. he gave it to me warm and I had to take a bite right away. It has a mochi texture which I love and was not too sweet which was amazing. I would definitely return for the waffle :-)

So, environment wise it's quaint, and they got pretty much one person running the joint which is impressive given the quality of all this. Granted, the snack products tend to take a little long, but as I said; One guy...And the wait was definitely worth it for the most part. I started the Brown Sugar Milk Tea; I thought that was basically Thai boba tea based on the menu picture, but I guess I was wrong. Still, it was sweet enough to be good and the boba was of good quality. I honestly cannot complain there! It's not easy finding a good boba tea place in West Florida so truthfully it was a nice palette cleanse to the things I've had at Clearwater Beach. Next I tried the Coconut Pandan Mochi Waffle, First off, finding anything containing Pandan is super rare in the East Coast, especially in Florida, so this was a great find. Taste wise? Oh man it hit exactly how I wanted to; Sweet, toasty, and almost melt-in-your-mouth. I definitely wish they had pineapple cream on the side for this but hey, just being able to eat Pandan in Florida is a dream come true. One thing that kinda threw me off was how different the end product looked compared to what was shown on the menu in regard to the milk teas; I will admit showing pictures tend to be a yellow flag for any restaurant or cafe, as it risks setting expectations too high, like I did with my drink. Still, a really nice little place to visit and I look forward to stopping by here again one day!

I've been multiple times and I appreciate that they let you try a sample before you order, the service has typically been great. Last night when I went, there was quite a line and I felt a bit rushed in asking for a sample, the lady working even had gloves on that had lots of ice cream on them, and when she handed me the spoon, she got chocolate all over my hand and the spoon was sticky. That was a bit offputting, but like I said, I've been multiple times and that was the only experience I had that was offputting. They don't allow half scoops. I wish they did but because they don't I always get two scoops because the banana pudding and the red velvet are just so good. You can't miss either of them.
