We needed some trees limbed back from the house we just purchased and they were the first to respond to my inquiry. It took several people a couple of days to respond. They came out and gave me a very reasonable estimate then did the work on the time and day we scheduled. I left to meet our movers and when I returned they had finished and left. The main office guy and the folks on the field don't even remember my phone number. They even called me saying "we will be there in 30 minutes" but they were just lying. we had a *very* large tree that needed to be taken down & the crew that came were amazing, especially their climber. that guy has absolutely no fear & his expertise was thrilling to watch. all of them were efficient & hardworking & polite. like the other reviewers, i was impressed with how tidy they left everything. the stump grinding the next day was also very efficient & handled by a very professional & personable guy. the only reason i'm not giving 5 stars was the difficulty in getting the wood hauled away in a timely manner. i don't think it was strictly norwest's fault but there were definitely communication issues between him & the people he subs out to haul. read more

Vic was very competitive in his pricing and willing to help out on a short notice, He removed 3 large overgrown cedar trees for us and did an excellent job! However, make sure you clarify if they will remove all tree stumps. Some were left and never picked up, we ended up dumping these ourselves. read more

The crew from Norwest Tree Experts had what I thought was a difficult job ahead of them. My very old and large Dogwood was diseased and sitting in a tight spot. My shed sitting on one side, a flowering bush that I kind of wanted to keep on the other, and my neighbors shop and fence right next to the tree. The guys showed up on time with a boom truck and chipper and went to work. The tree was down to a small stump in no time with zero collateral damage. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 star rating is because I had some minor clean up of sawdust on the fence. The price was the best we could find and I am happy with the results. On time and fast. 1/5 of a large tree fell into three yards and in less than 72 hours, the fallen tree trunk was cleaned up and the rest of the tree was stabilized. Unlike the other service that quoted high and wanted to find a way to stick the insurance with the whole bill, Vic came out figured it was worth trying to save the lower portion of the tree and gave a lower estimate as well. The crew was fast and safe. They minimized damage to the lawn and kept all other structures safe. The clean up is pretty close to immaculate too as they even cleaned up the saw dust. The whole experience was refreshing, speedy and clean. While I wish we hadn't lost the one trunk, the rest of the maintenance was required and Vic and team did a fine job. read more

We had a dead tree in our backyard that had all of our neighbors living in fear that it would soon topple over. The tree was not accessible by a crane but Norwest was brave enough to climb up the hazardous pine and within a few hours my yard was tree free. The price was a little high but worth it; the following week we had some intense wind gusts that would have surly been much more costly. Norwest is not afraid of heights or death defying tree climbs so i highly recommend them. read more

I probably should have read the reviews first before I even contacted this company. I'm not saying this company is good or bad, it's up to the readers to decide. I just wanted to share my experience and so it goes.... I asked for a free quote the week of 12/15/14. First the guy I talked to on the phone said he can just give me an estimate over the phone, outbid the lowest quote I have. I told him that does not sound right. I insisted on having him see the tree, if he is interested. The guy finally showed up the evening of 12/21/14 and gave me a quote. He offered that if I pay cash, I don't have to pay the tax (it did not have to go in the books). I was waiting for other quotes so I told him I'd call him back on 12/23, which I did and left him a message that I'm interested. I didn't get the call back from him until 5:30pm on 12/28. I told him I would like to get the tree removed on Tue, 12/30. He said they're busy this week and he'll check his schedule and will call me back in an hour. I told him that if I don't hear back from him after one hour, I would call another company. Well, I never got a call back. This morning, I called another company to have it scheduled instead. Then, I called the guy (NorWest) to let him know that I'm not interested in doing business with them anymore. He said "thank you anyway" and hang up the phone. Then, about half an hour later, the guy calls me back and left a message and told me I have to pay $150 for cancellation fee. His son WAS SUPPOSED TO CALL ME this morning to reschedule so they can take care of my tree on Tuesday, like I asked and so if I'm cancelling at this point, then he is charging me $150 per the agreement shown on the estimate. First of all, I did not get a call from his son. I don't know what this guy is thinking. Second, it says $100 (not $150) on the estimate paperwork for cancellation fee or reschedule ONCE THE WORK DATE IS SET. Again, THERE WAS NO AGREED DATE at the time the quote was provided. The estimate was not signed by me. The estimate may have stated "a verbal approval creates a binding contract for service". However, I didn't approve or commit at the time the estimate was provided on 12/21, no work date was set. I did ask last night for services to be performed on Tuesday, 12/30, but I never got a confirmation. He may be thinking about doing it on Tuesday but that needs to be communicated to me. Both parties must agree via phone to make this a binding agreement. As far as I'm concerned, this did not happen. So, I called the guy and told him that I am not paying for anything because there was no such agreement. He insisted it's on the invoice. I explained what verbal contract mean. Apparently, he is not aware. He kept saying Tuesday was the date and again told him that I never got a confirmation. Therefore, THERE IS NO BINDING CONTRACT. He said he couldn't call back last night since he didn't know the schedule until the next day. Well, it's only professional to call back and let me know of the plan rather than leaving the customer hanging. He realized he just lost a job and now he is trying to find ways on how he can get some money out of this. MORAL LESSON: If you value your customers, then learn how to return phone calls. It's as simple as that. I am a person with a word of honor and I expect the people I deal with to do the same. read more

If you want your project completed in a timely and professional manner, don't go with this group. It took them a month to finish the project that they started, and I actually had to take initiative to have the wood cleared away because they didn't follow through with arranging to find someone to finish that aspect of the project (like they said that they would). The staff members were all very polite (which is why I gave them two stars), but they were unreliable and irresponsible. I continually called the office and received answers like, "I don't know when we can come, I'll call you back." And then no one would call or contact me. It took about two weeks for someone to even communicate with me on a semi-regular basis, but he just "strung me along" and feigned interest in my project for two more weeks before coming to complete the job. Norwest also failed to show up about four or five times when they promised that they would come, which was really frustrating. I have never written a review on Yelp before, but this is one of the worst experiences with customer service that I have ever received and I felt like I should warn others. read more

My first contact with Norwest was in May for a large tree removal and if couldn't remove, major trim. Spoke with Vic and Mackenzie, very nice. I had such confidence in Vic. I patiently waited as they completed paperwork for tree removal. I was told that the paperwork was what was holding it all up. Then, nothing. Multiple emails and voice mails left. I had a nasty 85' Cottonwood pushing up my driveway and getting into my sewer line, not to mention worrying about it coming down on my (or a neighbor's) house in a storm. I got 3 estimates, all pretty similar, but Norwest had them beat, PLUS they came right away. This job involved steering clear of a number of power lines and dropping the tree carefully so as not to clobber any neighbors' property. Norwest disconnected power lines for as short a time as possible to minimize inconvenience. Most of the tree went in the chipper. I was amazed at how much they could stuff in there! All the pieces came down exactly where they were supposed to. The team clearly knew exactly what they were doing. I also had the gigantic stump ground out and got a lot of free fine-grade beauty bark in the process! They did a thorough job with stump grinding. They use protective barriers to keep the mulch and pieces from flying anywhere. The wood stacking and clean up was thorough and done exactly to my specifications. I give them my highest recommendation. read more

Norwest did a great job again and at a reasonable cost. We hired them when we first bought our home for a huge job and they did a great one. We just hired them again to take down a large Maple tree we loved and a couple pencil Cypress trees and they cleaned up our neighbor's patio they had to access and left our yard like nothing had ever happened. From my first conversation with Vic, it was clear that he and his team were experienced and knowledgeable. The job - taking down a large big leaf maple and grinding the stump - was a big one and the slope made it more difficult. The outcome was excellent; it was done in one day, the site was left clean. The other part I appreciated was that Vic kept me informed about scheduling, who would be on the job, what to expect, and how it went. The quote was very reasonable too. I was really impressed with these guys and highly recommend them. They ground down 7 stumps (3 really large stumps, 4 small-med stumps) 10-14" below grade and left our yard in great shape with the holes filled and the resulting mulch piled/raked neatly over each stump area. They even cut down an ugly bush for us for free! Cost-wise they were towards the low end of bids we received. They were the next to lowest bid but offered to match lowest...and the other companies were only going 6-8" below grade. I met with Vic for the estimate - he was very professional and educated me about equipment used to grind stumps plus he gave me some advice on an existing tree I had questions about. My wife contacted this company to get a bid on a 40 ft Leland Cypress removal and trimming and thinning 2 other Lelands. We then decided to have 2 of the trees removed and one thinned out. We got a bid from Dustin that seemed fair. The crew showed up at the appointed time. The first indication of a problem was when a member of the crew told me that thinning the tree not being removed was not part of the bid. I had a copy of the bid that clearly stated it was part of the bid. I decided to trim some of the limbs on that tree on my own thinking that it would be easier to do it myself than get into an argument over the bid. After I had cut a half dozen limbs I was informed that I was making a mess and that they would not take those limbs away because it was not part of the contract and they were improperly stacked. I was dumbfounded. I offered to re-stack the limbs or carry them to the chipper myself. Nope, my offer was ignored. Then the owner, Vic, showed up. He was agitated and rude. He commented that I had created a "rats nest" with the limbs I had cut down and that thinning that tree was not part of the deal. I said well, the contract states that it is and I pointed it out to him. I also told him that when I discussed the tree with Dustin, his bidder, I made it perfectly clear what we wanted done to the tree in question. His response was that it, in fact, was not part of the bid and he wasn't going to do it unless I paid an addition $100. Because of his attitude there was no way I was going to pay any more than had been agreed to in the contract. We settled the matter by him agreeing to clean up the "rats nest" i made and take off an addition 4 or 5 branches. The crew got both trees out without doing too much damage. It was tight quarters where the trees were located but that's why we hired experts to do the job. They were pretty rough with some of our plants and did some damage to a fence, not terrible but again they hold themselves out as experts. The last issue was hauling the wood away. They took all the limbs but left the main body of the tree in 18" sections as "firewood" we didn't want. We should have read the fine print. It costs extra to have the whole tree hauled away! read more
