Can't deny that view

A few hours before day's end, cars are driving through a dirt road to enter Northwest Community Park. Taller trucks & SUVs smoothly off road while smaller cars anticipate the bumpy ride. There's a private dirt lot that welcomes visitors to their destination. Two goal posts are fixed near the parking lot, and athletes are actively running around, kicking a soccer ball. Some people grab their fishing poles and march straight to the beautiful dock. Families bring their children to frolic around; a few even have their skateboards/bicycles to ride around the paved walkway. Couples, hand in hand, romantically stroll along chatting away for a little getaway from the long hours of work. Far off in the distance, a photographer is throwing together a photoshoot for a group with intentions to capture the natural landscape. If you're lucky, you can watch individuals kayak along the lake. All the festivities make me smile as I walk with my dogs to squeeze in some exercise. This is not the best-maintained park I have seen. However, I really appreciate how close to home it is. Hours are from dawn to dusk. The walkway is about 1 mile, a chance to quickly break a sweat or race your heart if you allow it to. My favorite part is the sunflowers greeting me along the way. I'm glad I can bring my dogs to enjoy the park, but they do not have any dog wastes bags on site. Unfortunately, you will find that some dog owners do not pick up after their dogs. Nevertheless, this is my new favorite park for a glimpse of nature - I shall be back!!!

Easy to miss great little park. The view are great. Walking path is paved and clean. If there has been a lot of rain then there are a couple of spots that get water over them. Not sure about the fishing but the dock is great.

Aaaaamazing!!! This…read morepark checks every box. Walkable, bike friendly, and perfect for a solid run. The trail is paved and lined with mile markers, which I always appreciate. Each bridge has clear street signs and access points with stairs or exits, so you can hop on or off wherever you need. There are also location markers along the trail, (for emergency purposes )which is great for safety in such a large park. Playgrounds are scattered throughout, and there is even a basketball court tucked under a bridge with really cool graffiti that gives it some personality. The park is clean. Like noticeably clean. Restrooms are mostly portable, but many are enclosed in small structures so they blend in better and are not an eyesore. And yes, they were clean. You will find kayaking launch areas, fishing spots, picnic tables, and benches everywhere. There is plenty of space to spread out without feeling isolated. It is not overcrowded, but you are not alone either. The crowd felt easygoing, and cyclists were respectful. I felt completely safe the entire time. There are multiple paths to switch things up, plus a few shorter gravel routes if you want a change of pace. I even spotted e bike stations along the way. Honestly, this park sits right in the heart of Fort Worth and makes it feel like you do not even need a car in this part of DFW. One of the best runs I have had in a while.

Beautiful park set in the midst of Fort Worth's urban sprawl. I can't believe my original post was 9 years ago. Of course, I still stand by what I said before…read morethat this park is amazing and dog-friendly. I will just give you the CliffNotes version in that the park is very clean - perfect for running/jogging, walking, and sitting around to enjoy the outdoors. Here's the new impression about how kid friendly it is. First off, I love their splash pad. The best part of it is it's free! We tend to go on cooler/cloudy days when the summer sun is not beating down on us. They have benches and tables for families to sit around the splash pad. You can't bring your pets or food to the area. After a lot of running and laughing, my son's eyes do get a little red from the chlorine, so wear glasses or goggles if you want to avoid this. Right next to the splash pad is the playground. I'm so glad that it is covered, so we can go when it's sunny outside, but not too hot. The playground is a good place for the kiddo to either warm up or cool down before the splash pad. I would say the splash pad is such a fun distraction that my son spends the majority of his time at the splash pad and the playground is just a second thought. It's never super crowded even on the weekends. Perfect amount of kids playing around. There's a nice private parking lot right next to the splash pad. I'll be back with the family again and again.
