I can't believe my original post was 9 years ago. Of course, I still stand by what I said before that this park is amazing and dog-friendly. I will just give you the CliffNotes version in that the park is very clean - perfect for running/jogging, walking, and sitting around to enjoy the outdoors. Here's the new impression about how kid friendly it is. First off, I love their splash pad. The best part of it is it's free! We tend to go on cooler/cloudy days when the summer sun is not beating down on us. They have benches and tables for families to sit around the splash pad. You can't bring your pets or food to the area. After a lot of running and laughing, my son's eyes do get a little red from the chlorine, so wear glasses or goggles if you want to avoid this. Right next to the splash pad is the playground. I'm so glad that it is covered, so we can go when it's sunny outside, but not too hot. The playground is a good place for the kiddo to either warm up or cool down before the splash pad. I would say the splash pad is such a fun distraction that my son spends the majority of his time at the splash pad and the playground is just a second thought. It's never super crowded even on the weekends. Perfect amount of kids playing around. There's a nice private parking lot right next to the splash pad. I'll be back with the family again and again. read more

I've been coming to this park for years and love the atmosphere at Capp Smith Park. Capp Smith Park hosts Watauga Fest every year and every year the event seems to get bigger and better. There are plenty of parking spots available, restrooms, rides, live music, wrestling, food/dessert trucks and vendors available. I tried street style chicken tacos which were flavorful and juicy. I tried a blueberry cheesecake from nana's cheesecake which was creamy and delicious. I love seeing seasons change at the park, especially fall and spring time. I love walking over the bridges, viewing the ducks in the pond and seeing the flowers in bloom. Over the summer and fall, Capp smith offers movie in the park as well. There's also a splash pad for the kids near the library. I'm grateful for Capp Smith and will continue to enjoy the park. read more

This review is only for the splash pad since it was wayyyy too hot to explore the park. However, the pictures I've seen of the park are beautiful and I will be back to explore once the Texas heat calms down in November/December. Anyway, this was a nice little splash pad. Pretty decent size compared to some that I have been to before, but unfortunately no shade for the kiddos while splashing around so bring sunscreen! There were a few tables and shade for those not getting wet to sit and watch. My older two had a good time, but the random bursts of strong water pressure was too much for my little one. There is no food allowed in this area, but there were plenty of shaded tables by the playground only a few feet away if you plan on making a day out of it or spending a few hours here. read more

Great playground and splash pad. There are several manufactured shade and seating options around, or grab some shade from the surrounding trees for a picnic. The splash pad is excellent, and kids were having a ball; for small kids you can play 1-2 hours before a change of scenery is requested. The restrooms are a bit of a hike, but they are available. Like most things, nice and free people will take advantage and not show respect, so I did step in gum and picked up trash from departed families, although several trashcans are available. I won't take stars away from the lack of manners of others but do ask fellow citizens not to bring gum to shared spaces. Not proposing we go 100% Singapore rules here but...they do have clean streets/spaces for a reason. read more

Great walking trail, nice sized pond. Area is clean, well lite for safety. Restaurants are close by and park provides great picnic areas. For warm months kids splash park is nicely appointed. Library and Police station in the immediate area. read more

Discovered this park with my parents while we were trying to find a place to eat our food. Such a beautiful park - too bad I didn't get to explore but from what I could see it was very popular with everyone. You saw from people working out on steps, riding bikes, walking, and running. A great park, easy to calculate and anticipate distance since it's a mile lap. It's also a nice after-dark option with the lighted path. The restrooms are at the extremes (half mile apart), so that's good. They're what you'd expect from park toilets, and not above average. The downside of the park is maintenance is obviously a major undertaking. I think it was easier to justify the initial expenses of the construction than to cover the expenses of upkeep, especially with all the lights, which are beginning to show their age. Anyway, decent park for sure. read more

Great loop, even on a cool day. It's a one mile, somewhat scenic loop. Parking lots and restrooms on both ends (North and south). I think soda machines too. Close to 377 and food options. When I feel like logging mindless steps, I head here. I can go round and round and not have to worry about cars. Not too many bike riders. Best thing about the loop: It is lighted! read more

This park offers a mile-long loop with a marker every 1/4 mile. There are a few exercise stations sprawled out as you go around along with covered pavilions. The pond allows for fishing, and often people bring their remote controlled boats out to play as well. I personally enjoy the openness of the trail. I love the reflection of the sky in the water during the day, or the lights that run along the perimeter after sunset. If you bring children, they might not enjoy the idea of walking a mile. Fear not, for there is a playground and behind is the public library! read more

Beautiful park with a one-mile pavement trail looping around a cute little pond with ducks. I love that this park is generally well maintained and clean. Lots of trees around the trail with quarter-mile markers and benches to enjoy the scenery. There is a playground area located on the south end by the library and police station. Great place to walk your dog, ride bikes with the family, workout, or just go for a nice stroll. I wish they would get the water fountain working again. The park is beautifully and well lit at night. Park closes at 11:00 pm and a police officer will drive by to ensure that ;-) read more

One of my favorite parks on the Fort Worth side of DFW. It's so beautiful and keeps getting even more beautiful over the years.

Always clean and used by locals. Make sure if you're trying to avoid traffic around the lake to use it mid day or later in the evening. Lots of lovely humans get their sweat on before & after work! read more

We drive about three miles to get here. It's our place to walk as we head south from the parking lot toward the cooking pavillion. Along the way we sit our butts down on the bench usually by the shed in the water. This i the area where most of the ducks and geese hang out. Along the way we see runners, people with baby strollers, those walking dogs on leases, kids, skate boarders and bicyclists. Most are nice and friendly. I enjoy watching nature and seeing the water fowl interact with each other. There are even turtles that sun themselves on the banks. PH occasionally sees people she knows and we wave at friendly fe olks we see often. I would like to come here more often since the exercise does of walking helps my replaced right hip. And just being outdoors makes me feel better whether it's sunny or cloudy. It's kept pretty clean since there are ample trash barrels. It seems like the picnic area at the south end that people discard their trash on the ground. We do our part by picking up what little mess is there. The park people do a good job cutting the grass and maintaining the place. d It seems safe as the police cars patrol the neighborhood. I was sad to see during this past Easter a young latino couple with 2 kids under 8 bring 2 Easter ducklings who were beyond being babies. The adults kept on trying to get them to assimilate with the wild ducks but because the owners had imprinted themselves the domesticated ducks kept on trying to follow the family when they were trying to leave I'm not sure of the outcome but we did tell a person who is fond of wildlife about it and he talked to a few others. Meanwhile the family left before they could be shamed into taking the ducks with them. Please folks , refrain buying rabbits, chickens and ducks during Easter if you don't intend to take care of them. Thank you for heeding me. BB read more

This is a beautiful park and would definitely recommend it, there are lots of ducks too! I go fishing there a lot, I don't really get that many fish though, but I will say it is very beautiful and is a great place to bring family and friends together! Some times you can find cranes and geese flying above the lake and occasionally they get in the lake for a swim it is a unique sight! This park is a great place to go for a walk and picnics! The place is a great area to do many fun activities and a very great place to take your kids out for a walk or fishing! It is a good area for dogs to exercise and meet other dogs too! Lovely park where you least expect it. Walking around the pond is almost a mile. The city has done a nice job with the upkeep.

This is a great place to come run Day or night. I bring my dog here all the time and it is very well lit at night.

Great walking path with lights for early morning or late evening walks. You can also feed the ducks, have a picnic, fish or just sit and people watch. Yearly community events are held here as well, such as Wataugafest, with carnival rides and food vendors. Check it out. read more

This park is an awesome park for a city park. Very nice play ground area and plenty of places to bbq with the family. It's close to the local police department so it feel safe already just knowing that. I went riding around with my kids on on Razors. It was fun but you have to watch out for sidewalks. They have some nice gaps to wear if your aren't going fast enough or paying attention you could crash pretty good. Bathrooms are easily accessible and plenty around pond area. read more

I love this park! I feel safe here at night because of the well lit paths and community feel. There are always lots of families, couples, bike riders, runners, and dog walkers around the paths. It's a great place for everyone. Also the park is beautiful especially at sunset! read more

This is our favorite park in the area. Has big sidewalk all the way around the pond which is a mile long with hills. Walkway always has lights on at night. Bathrooms on both ends of the park. Lots of wildlife, fishing and a fountain on the one end with stadium seating to enjoy concerts or plays. Lots of great picture taking areas. The park also has a open field to play football, soccer, badminton, volleyball or whatever you want to do. It also has a baseball field. Watauga puts on concerts, festivals, campouts, and fishing days. Love this park! read more

We have been going to this park since I can remember. Great place to walk and jog. They also hold many events there throughout the year.

Just moved nearby and absolutely LOVE this park! I live less than a block and I feel super safe about letting my kids go there after the sun goes down, there is a police station and fire station nearby, the park is well maintained and clean, there are dozens of ducks around the pond and always a ton of people walking the trail at any given time of the day. I've been out walking my dog around 9:30pm and still feel plenty safe. read more

I absolutely love this park. Unfortunately, I have noticed a lot of plastic and Styrofoam cups and bottles around the edge of the water. That angers me because there are trash containers throughout the park. I feel very safe. read more

I'm so lucky this park is within walking distance. It's so beautiful with the lake, fauna, and the people are so friendly. Everything is well kept and it's very dog friendly so we love to go here for walks in the morning. I saw that everything is lit up at night as well so it seems really safe. The loop itself is concrete about an entire mile long so you can get a great stretch on the legs. This is probably one of the best maintained parks I've seen in a long time. Beautiful park in watauga. Right next to harvest church. Big pond in the middle and running lane around it.

Good place to go for a long walk. Some people chose to fish. Covered areas and bathrooms on either end. Small amphitheater for music.

This is an awesome park for walking. It is such a pretty view. I like to come with my kids. I do a few laps and get in my exercise and then head to the park and let them play. The playground is fun and my kids usually play for about an hour. read more

Stunning park. Large, well kempt (clean and grass was cut all around). It's a one mile loop and there's slopes from the sidewalk to where you can walk down to the grass and sit by the lake. It's peaceful and quiet. There are people fishing in the lake. There's a nice picturesque bridge for when you've reached the half mile mark to cut to the other side. I was very impressed by how well constructed this park was. It really is beautiful especially with the fountain of water spraying up high at the entrance of the park. read more
