Saved us! Thank you, thank you! We are traveling from Florida in our RV. We tow a jeep, that starting making a noise. Thought we could get in fixed in Gardiner. Unfortunately, it was more than they could work on. Didn't have parts or the tools. After calling at least 5 or 6 other mechanics from Livingston to Bozeman, from dealerships to private mechanics, we finally found Chris at Northwest. We had verbal quotes all over the place and scheduling was July, September and maybe we can fit you in. My husband had called our mechanic in Florida so we knew what it should cost. We needed a new cam and follower. Apparently, this is s common problem on Jeeps with 100,000 miles. We dropped the Jeep off on a Friday with an appointment on the following Friday. We also had a written quote, (not verbal). It was risky to keep driving it so we thought it was better just to leave it at Northwest. Chris said if there was a cancellation then he would work on the Jeep. On Tuesday morning by husband received an email invoice. The Jeep was repaired, ready for pick up and within to quote. We are so thankful that there are still honest, reasonable and reliable mechanics out there. There's so much more to this nightmare, but thanks to Northwest the Jeep is back to exploring. read more

Very unsatisfied with the way they do business. I got my lift and tires put on with a preview invoice sent to me showing the charges, which I was fine with. I did have to come back to put on the shock boots and a spare tire because shipping takes a long time due to the location. THEY NEGLECTED TO GIVE ME A PRVIEW OF SUBSEQUENT CHARGES. I took my car in for what I thought was going to be a quick, no charge inspection, to see if what was broke, was worth fixing. I was not told I would be charged for this service by anyone. When I showed up 2 hr after dropping my car off, I was originally charged a 140$ diagnostic fee, which then was dropped down to 70$ because of them not informing me prior. I tried to get more information about the process to justify the amount and from the feedback I received seemed very minimal on their part and unjustifiable. I looked into what they said was broken, which they quoted 500$ to fix. It cost me 80$ for the few parts at the local auto store and I honestly used one 10mm socket wrench and it took me less that 10 mins to do it myself, looking at a YouTube video. It was beyond easy (**I am amateur at best, when it comes to cars) Obviously I was very disappointed because the people there seemed honest and fair but I just feel that I was taken advantage of, and I want to make sure no one else ends up in my shoes. read more

We were traveling through beautiful Montana ultimately toward Canadian border/Alaska. Before crossing, we wanted to make sure our 2019 F150/4Wheel camper wasnt having an issue with the differential fluids as was suggested by another shop. Based on the reviews, we called Northwest Automotive in Kalispell on a Friday before Memorial Day Weekend. Spoke with Chris and expressed our concerns. Although he stated they were full with appointments 2 weeks out. he squeezed us in because of our remote travel itinerary. Chris was super chill, accommodating and professional from beginning to end. We highly recommend Northwest Automotive. They were honest and didn't try to upsell us. In fact, they didn't even charge us for the inspection. Kudos to Chris and crew. You guys rock! We were told Northwest is the best. We were told wrong. We took our car there in May 2020 for a transmission problem. They inspected and said no, it's the suspension. We agreed to repairs at $4,600. We picked up the car, drove to Tire Rama. While there the suspension failed. Northwest took it back, said a part failed and replaced it under "warranty". Now it's July and we bring the car home. Literally drove it 15 miles home. Went to start it the next day and there's 4 codes on dash. Lotta warnings. Afraid to drive it we had it towed back to Northwest on August 1st. We didn't hear from them so I called. Yes it's a module and we need to figure out which one. As we didn't need the car we let it be. Next we heard was December 22nd, it's the transmission. Needs to be replaced. $7,600.00!! They already know car is only worth $9,000 max and we had already spent $4600......now this. I was hopeful to talk to someone. So I've left voicemails and emails for Christopher, whoever he is. Whoever he is he's not called me or emailed. Whoever he is he's not a businessman. Extremely unprofessional! I was early for my 10:00 appointment for an oil change. I left the keys and told the man at the front desk we'd go grab breakfast and be right back. Upon returning an hour and fifteen minutes later they hadn't' even moved my truck. When I confronted him about it he said, "Oh, I didn't think you'd be waiting.", even though I told him we would be. When I asked for the keys and said I'd go elsewhere, nothing, no apology, no asking if I'd like to reschedule, not a word. He was EXTREMELY RUDE. So far 3 visits in person and 5 phone calls. 3 different prices. When ask about price change I was told it didn't include head work, it needed send out to plane. Problem is I spent 20 to 25 minutes each time making the guy say the words it won't include anything else. The seeping headgasket was the whole reason I took it in I made sure of price and all work was included. I also ask about how long needed for repairs and was assured it would take 3 days. On 3rd visit When questioned about timeline I was told about that it would take 2 to 3 weeks. he mumbled a couple of numbers. He never answered that question. HE Just mumbled something else. BEWARE 4 in person visits 6 phone calls price kept changing. They could not answer why price kept changing. Over 2 weeks they had the car with no work done so I took my car back. This auto shop is top crack. I took my car in for an air conditioning problem and could not be more pleased with the outcome. The repair was done quickly. The cost was reasonable. Customer service to the max, efficiency, and intelligent workmanship combined with an engageable Montana-style and fair prices. My hubby decided to try NWAuto and we were really impressed. From the outside it is unimposing. The sign is old and worn. Inside though, Christopher is packing. He is a Honda Master Tech and used to work for Eisinger Honda, so we we were super happy to hand over our Pilot. He did a fabulous job. Of course he works on all makes and models. He currently has our Subi. So what puts Christopher above the rest? Well, he gives you pictures. I can't tell you in words how happy my hubby was when he got the EMAIL of the pics and details that showed where our car needed work done and WHY. I'm not sure if all guys get this excited about pics like this, but it sure gives you a sense of being cared for and not being lied to. Of wondering, is my mechanic just making this stuff up? The computer software he uses is sleek and smart; the gold standard in our opinion. The front office is clean and modestly well-appointed. Not ostentatious like those dealer joints that charge big bucks for less than worthy service. But well-appointed nonetheless. We have taken both our F250 diesel and our suburban to northwest automotive for years now. They are trustworthy and do quality work.

I called last week and spoke with Micah. I was impressed with how respectfully he treated me. I explained the condition my car was doing and he suggested I bring it in on Monday at 1:00 so they could give me an idea what was wrong. I came in and the sweet woman at the counter said it would take an hour. Which I was a bit surprised. How long does it take to drive a car to feel it vibrate at 45 mph? But ok, I went and grabbed lunch. I came back an hour later and she said they were just finishing. An additional 45 minutes later, (an hour and 45 minutes total) I walked up and told her I needed to be in Whitefish (15 minutes away) by 3:00 pm. Micah came out and started speaking in acronyms I didn't understand. I asked him to explain what he had said. So he repeated, this time explaining the acronyms. I needed my computer upgraded and reset (under $200) or a replacement. Then the woman told me that my bill was $125! I was floored! Never did Micah say when we chatted on the phone that there was a charge to give me an idea of what was wrong with my car. When he saw my chin on the floor at the bill, he looked at me. I said, you never stated there was a cost to get an idea of what was wrong! He said, well I told you we could diagnosis it. I said, Micah did you ever tell me there was a cost? He shook his head and his response was "I guess I could have explained that better" as he looked at his feet. I stood there with my mouth still wide open, shaking my head in disbelief. He then offered to lower the price by half. I was still in shock because he didn't say it would cost me to have them give me an idea or estimate! I have been a business owner in the valley for over 26 years. In our companies, we make sure our clients understand every cost prior to the start of the work. Had this been my company and one of my staff did this to a client, I would have written off the entire bill. This was a mistake by the staff and his mistake cost me. I came in to find out what was going on, not have them work on my car. I reluctantly paid the bill and told them I would not be back. I am so disappointed! I thought when I called, here is a nice man who is honest and ethical and who treated me with respect. When I arrived, the place was clean and well kept. I so wanted to choose this shop. I am so sad that I have to write this negative review. Make sure you find out in advance if they are going to charge you! I went to another shop. We went for a drive, he checked the car, gave me a diagnosis and didn't charge me. I wanted to get a second opinion to make sure the diagnosis was the same. read more

My camper van wouldn't start at Glacier National Park campground. AAA towed me here. The Internet was full of problems for the "NO BUS" message I was getting. Most places couldn't work on it until next week. The tech seemed real knowledgeable about NO BUS. But I got a call while shopping at a market that it was fixed and ready to go! They are looking to take your head off, without a doubt. First and foremost, they charged me over $200 just to look over my pickup and tell me what's all was wrong with it (I had planned to have it all repaired there but could not even afford the first thing wrong with it that they told me to prioritize and fix first, so I had to take it back - it was many many times more expensive than I thought it would be). That's all well and good (charging for inspection/estimate), as their time is valuable and they did a good job in breaking it down - however, the common industry practice is to not charge for this unless the customer is told up front that there will be a charge just for evaluation - they most certainly did not mention anything about this when I took it in. So I feel it was a bait and switch. In addition, I looked up several parts they quoted me for, and the parts were listed at 20-35% higher price than the prices I found at parts stores. This is unacceptable at a place which already has an ultra-premium labor rate. But, to be fair to them, they are very organized and do perform a very good job if you're willing to have it broken off in you (I had had prior work done I was happy with). read more

First things first this is my second time writing this as Northwest automotive called google and got my first review removed and I don't know how but im rewriting it and will repost every time it gets taken down from now on . Now for my experience with em sorry to say this is just another shade tree shop who rips off customers like its their job. brought a truck I was considering buying into them to have them inspect it. they charged my $120 to open the hood and take some pics. took them about 4 hours which is a reasonable amount of time . they sent me a link to view the inspection report which I did and was allready unimpressed with their service . they had pics of stuff like the battery and then checked it off as good . when I got to the shop and asked what the battery tested as they said they only perform a visual inspection ( id like to know how you perform a visual inspection on a battery ??? ) there report didnt mention brake measurements so I asked what those were , they said they were low . I asked what the exact measurements were , they told me they didnt actually measure them they just looked at the brake fluid which was low so they assumed I need brake pads ( that could be the case but they didnt look for any brake fluid leaks which could also be the case and was , they brake pads were almost new ,they didnt tell me the truck had brake fluid leaks which makes me wonder if they even looked underneath the truck at all since it was quite obvious once you peaked under it) I asked for tread depth and guess what they don't check that either . They told me the rear shocks are bad and I would need those replaced asap to prevent further damage. when in fact the rears are solid but the fronts are toast , maybe miscommunication , mabey the techs aren't that bright and don't know front from back or left from right , who knows maybe they were just chillin in their office " visually inspecting" the truck through a window determining my rear shocks were bad while they figured out how much money they could sucker me out of. they told me all fluids were full and clean , I stupidly took their word for it and after purchasing this truck they told me was in good shape I found that tranny fluid hasn't probably been changed once in its whole life and was low and there was an inch of sludge in the pan . front and rear Dif fluids are low and nasty . transfer case also dirty and full of sludge . oil looked like diesel oil that hasn't been changed in 20k plus miles. they do get one point for being able to look at the coolant reservoir and see that it was full , but they get that point taken away because they told me my coolant was low. now Im aware that they wouldn't of been able to see the future and be able to tell me the problems I would have with this truck , but if they would of took 30min to an hour to get off their rear ends and actually look at my truck and saw the signs of low and dirty sludgy fluids and told me about that that can really make a difference in a purchase decision as that tells you the trucks been used hard and not taken care of , as a result I have had to replace the transmission , transfer case , fuel pump , rear main seal and a good bit more . they also unplugged a connector which triggered my check engine light . I brought it right back and they told me all the parts I would need to fix that , but I found the unplugged connector and the light never came back on. they were treating my like I was some woman who don't know squat about squat. My hat comes off to you northwest automotive for straight up stealing my money , but im onto you now and you won't get another cent from me. BEWARE ANYONE WHO READS THIS!!! there's a reason they have such a good rating on google ... its because they have a way to get all the bad reviews removed like my last one . read more

Formerly a trusted auto repair shop,sent my daughter there with a specific list to have repaired.She was leaving on a 2600 mile trip NONE of of my concerns were addressed.Instead did $800 of unrequested repairs.Vehicle still ran badly after these repairs.Had to send to another shop to fix easily found problems such as raw fuel smell.Still needed knock sensors and the fuel pressure regulator which was causing the fuel smell.She was leaving on this trip with 4 children ages 2 to 9.This shop has lost all integrity for me. read more
