Can you not give 0 stars? I went in for a straight razor above my beard and on my neck line. Left with a hacked off beard, an untouched mustache, and fuming anger. Actually the worst hair service I've ever received. I was asked where I thought I should take off more hair..... I'm sorry, whose cutting whose hair? Get outta' here. Grungy old barber shop. Received one of my worst haircuts ever. Prices are $17 a cut. Can't get shampoo. Wouldn't recommend unless you want a typical guy crew cut. If you have longer hair that requires skill to cut, avoid this place. I went because it had good reviews on yelp, unfortunate. read more

Worst hair cut I've ever had. I got some old guy who didn't speak English and was literally on oxygen while cutting my hair. He didn't say a word to me the entire time, or even ask me what I wanted. When I told him how to cut my hair he nodded but didn't listen to. He just keep wheezing and breathing on my neck the entire time. The hair cut itself was uneven and there were even some bald spots on the back. I went to Al's barber shop and they fixed it as best they could. I'm never going back to this nasty place. read more

I have had my hair cut by 3 of the barbers and I am very happy! Long hair.. Mohawk shaved sides and I found the place with great hands. I have been to voodoo with bad results and Katie is AWESOME!!! These guys are great! I have been using Brian for several years. He listens carefully to what I want, and then cuts it correctly. I have used several of their other barbers, also good. This has to be the worst haircut I've ever had in my life. I wasn't looking for anything special and I told the guy to take off 1 inch everywhere. He took off at least 3 inches...I had medium-long hair and told him I wanted just a "trim", but he apparently decided I would look better with 90% of my hair hacked off. I wasn't facing a mirror most of the time and he did the cut so quickly that I didn't have time to object before the deed was done. Don't go here unless you're okay with having your hair cut by a robot. read more

Clearly the BEST of the BEST of BOULDER. I like the classic feel of Northside Barbers. Being older, I remember the haircuts we used to get in the 60s when it was all classic, and being former military, I like the feel of classic cuts. Clearly, a lot of other guys do, too. Northside is almost always packed. As a longtime employee of THE hardware store in the same Village, I have found other Hardware guys, Boulder natives, who have gone to Northside since boyhood days. This place is the real deal. When I'm in Boulder, I always get my cuts here. The staff is long term and the atmosphere is what a real man would want in a barber shop. Metro-sexuals: this may not be the place for you. And they don't bleach, color, curl, or any girly stuff either. They do give awesome real shaves. Northside is a basic barber shop. If you get your hair cut solely with electric clippers or just want a quick and inexpensive haircut this might be the place for you. If you like the style achieved from a cut with shears, you might want to look elsewhere. There's no doubt that their staff was friendly, I talked with my barber the whole time--but enough about cordiality, I went there for a haircut. Maybe it was just a bad hair day on their part, but I honestly believe I've given myself better haircuts (my hair is pretty short, not buzz-cut short but it's not that hard to deal with). After I got home I noticed my hair was quite a bit longer on top on the left versus the right. The back also needed cleaning up even though I got the hot-foam straight razor shave. What happened, Northside? Distracted by the sports on the TV? All joking aside, they're probably better than the chain shops, but I probably won't go back (to Northside or a chain). There's also no parking for bicycles near Northside, but this might be the fault of the center/property owners. read more

Got my haircut yesterday at Northside Barbers; third time within the last 2 months, sadly with each visit my haircuts have been less and less desirable. I didn't request some crazy, hip hairstyle - I just asked for the sides/back to be trimmed, a nice gradual fade, and a little off the top... Ahem, my hair was butchered during the cut. The shears were dull, they kept pulling and snagging my hair, so not a pleasant experience. The fade is uneven and NOT gradual. The barber shaved/trimmed about a half an inch above one of my ears, then back and down my hairline on the back of my head, BUT did not trim the other side of my head to match...it looks bad, REALLY bad. I didn't check my haircut while I was sitting in the chair afterwards, I never have, I've always trusted that a barber will do a good job. I simply thanked the girl for my haircut, paid, and went on with my day. It wasn't until I got home later in evening that I noticed how awful my haircut was; it's embarrassing to say the least. read more

Took my 4 year old in. We were in and out in 20 minutes. Sherman cut his hair and was awesome. Cut it as well as if my son was an adult. No frills needed. There were 4 barbers and all of them were doing a good job. Cut was $17 but they do offer a military discount. read more

Just got my inaugural haircut at Northside; it's the first of many to come. Prompt service, great cut by Dave, very reasonably priced and the early morning opening (6 AM) is very convenient. Granted, my cut and beard trim are all shaved close (#2) w/ clippers, but Dave made certain everything evened out and lined up nicely. I like this place very much, it opens at 6 a.m., the best timing for me. The staff members are welcoming and genuinely friendly. The guy was paying so much attention to the details that I prepared myself for whatever charge... but even that was not bad at all, $15 and I gave $20. I will go back again for sure! read more

The only place in town to get your hairs cut and keep your man card intact. Great price. Hot lather neck shave is worth the trip alone. Staff has been the same every time I go. TV with sports center on. And you face away from the mirrors, makes it less awkward than staring at yourself. read more

I'm sure there are many excellent hair cutters in this establishment based on all the reviews and all the folks waiting in the lobby, but I went in as a new client walk in this week, and apparently got the new girl, who is NO GOOD (apparently there was reason there was a line for other cutters and this one was available). BE WARY OF MERCEDES; she does not listen. Biggest issue is that she completely messed up my natural hair line. Raised it at least an inch above natural in the back, used clippers and a straight blade to round out the hair line (which is not at all natural for me). In addition, she just didn't do at all what i asked. I requested a finger length scissor cut all around; same length, no shaping, no electric clippers. Well, only about a 1/3 of my hair is finger length, She gave me a quasi military fade in the back (stupid short and high), and left it one and half plus finger length on top so I have a spike. Also shorter than finger length on sides and around ears, etc. Mercedes told me she quit (or was fired from) Super Clips because they told her she could no longer use straight blade. Based on what she did to my hair line, I concur; take the damn clippers out of the woman's hands. DISASTER. I also asked her not to use electric clippers on my hair; she didn't listen. I also asked her to go easy on the thinning shears, which she took rapidly and aggressively to my hair before I could stop her (I would have told her no thinning shears, but she didn't give me the opportunity or chance to stop her). I generally let this stuff go and just go find another haircutter, but am so displeased I will be going back, asking for a full refund with tip, and asking Mercedes to shave my head (as there's not much else to do to fix it). BE VERY WARY OF MERCEDES. SHE DOES NOT LISTEN. Also moved frighteningly quickly for a first time client. Kicking myself for not slowing her down. Train wreck. read more

The cuts are good and the people are friendly ~ but after using them several times, I have noticed that they do not conform to the health code. No spray on the clippers and they don't change the razor blades after every use. These deficiencies could potentially cause very serious health risks. read more

I downloaded the Yelp app just so I could leave a review for Northside Barbers. Truly no frills, but no BS either- the guy who cut my hair (far left, can't remember his name) did a fantastic job. I told him what kind of haircut I was looking for and he totally nailed it-and fast. And for $17 bucks? Leaves more room for a good tip, because he deserved it. Definitely check this place out. NEVER Picked up a pair of scissors. This is the type of place that just buzzes everything. No styling, just short buzzed hair. Did not follow directions at all. The barber did not speak english very well. DO NOT go here if you want anything other than a buzz cut! read more

This is a basic barbershop at a good price, with the standard walk in and wait concept. Visited on a Saturday morning. Lots of young boys getting cuts, along with dads and moms standing by. Probably shorter waits on weekdays. They don't bother to clean the floor between cuts, so it's a little like being in a restaurant that serves peanuts and lets you throw the shells on the floor. This is not bad, but there does not seem to be a lot of pride in the cleanliness of the place. My cut was a buzz, so hard to compare quality, but there did seem to be some attention to detail. read more

If you need anything more complicated than a crew cut do not come here. I asked for a very basic haircut and showed multiple pictures however the barber did a sloppy job that looked nothing like what I asked for. When I asked him to leave it a little longer on one side he said he is doing his job and doesn't appreciate my complaining. read more

I have been going to this salon for 5-6 years to get my buzz cut refined every few weeks and couldnt be more pleased with the results. I especially like the old school feel of the place with the red, white and blue candy cane style sign out front. What a hoot!!! I have been progressively getting more bald on the top for the better part of 4 years so it requires a precision effort. I always request a #2 attachment on the top and #1 on the sides each and every time. The clean shave I get is just icing on the cake!! And all for $15?
