Introduction:
I have never written a review in my life because I never took that extra step, to comment on a product or service and share my experience with people I may not know. However, this is a first for me because I believe that great things should reach good people and if anyone out there like me benefits from this review, I would be very glad.
The Buildup:
Starting from my adolescence times finding a good barber was a great deal for me and even when I did the peace wouldn't last long as talented barbers did not stay long in small Indian towns. Growing up and moving to a bigger city, I found two amazing stylists and stuck with them for the major part of my adult life, say around 10 years. When I had to move to Boulder I got my farewell haircut from my stylist and did not know what to expect here in Boulder.
The Problem:
I am very conscious about my haircuts as I have a bushy brush like hair and a great haircut could make so much difference and a bad haircut would make me want to sport a hat for the next 30 days or so. I grew my hair long not wanting to risk a bad haircut in a new place, but my brush like hair made me look very bad and I had to take a chance.
Bad to Great:
After some serious research going through websites and reviews of salons in Boulder, I landed on this salon on Pearl street where I got my first haircut in the US. The stylist had done a decent job, but definitely not how I wanted my hair done and not what I expected for thirty bucks. For my next haircut, I went to Jamal at Brooklyn Barber Academy and I am not going anywhere else while I am here in Colorado.
My Take:
In my opinion, it takes some searching over the web, thoughtfulness and good communication to find a great stylist. The first time I had my hair done by Jamal, I did not get too specific about what I wanted but gave him a high-level idea as I was unsure and nervous. However, I got exactly what I asked for and realized that Jamal had great skills. The second time, I told him in detail what I wanted and showed him a pic from a magazine lying around to give a feel of what I wanted. I was amazed right after my haircut then, and am still amazed fifty days after my haircut as to how beautifully my hair has grown out even with much volume. I could very well say that my second hair cut with Jamal is the best haircut I've got in my life so far and definitely better than the haircuts my stylist for five years had given me before.
Jamal:
Jamal is a skilled hairstylist and a successful entrepreneur, thanks to his skills in the trade and in the business. He is easy to talk to and he really listens to what you want. He doesn't just give you a great hairstyle that's trending not knowing what you want, but understands your hair and gives you a haircut that would look great on you and how you want it. The salon itself is a very nice place and I feel truly comfortable when I am there. Every little detail in the salon is well thought of, from how they treat their clients to how the music transitions from one song to the next.
End Note:
If you need a great stylist in an affordable price range, look no further than Brooklyn Barber Academy and I can personally vouch for Jamal's work. I have an appointment tomorrow and am going to try something new this time, as I am sure that I have found my stylist. read more
