After the number of great reviews and recs I received for this shop, I was shocked at the customer service. I called for info on a repair for my 16 yr olds car, I'm literally just trying to get another year out of the car, not put a new transmission in. My mechanic who I trust but doesn't do transmission work told me what to ask for and the error code it was giving. I wanted a very rough, loose estimate to see if it was worth it. Mike, the owner, told me that if I didn't want to replace the transmission that he would suggest getting a new car. I asked if he could just give me an estimate for the part I was told to replace. He said no, that I wasn't the shop for him, and to have an amazing day and hung up on me. When I called back to see if he was the owner, etc and asked why he couldn't help me, explain to me, etc he was very condescending and said some people just don't want to hear what they don't like. I 100% understand that the customer is not always right, I understand that not every business wants every customer, I would have understood if he asked to look at it first to confirm the diagnostics, I would have been fine with paying for that service but to be so rude from the get go was shocking. I also understand that in looking for transmission work I am paying for their skill as it is a specialty that I don't have, I'm sure there are few enough of them to where they can be picky but to be rude and hateful when I'm just trying to understand so I can weigh options is uncalled for. I brought my older vehicle in with suspected transmission problems. Mike was able to get it checked out next day. Within a few days I was driving again with a rebuilt transmission. I took my Mazda 5 here and they were able to replace the transmission module in a surprisingly short period of time. The staff was also very friendly, and they washed my car before returning it to me. The only issue was that my battery was not secured back in place properly, causing my car to stall, though this was a relatively easy fix. read more

I had a rough week with my car acting up and thought it was the transmission slipping. I made arrangements to drop it off so it could be looked at here because my usual auto shop doesn't do transmission work and this was the place they recommended. I was told there was a fee just to look at and diagnose the problem (which would then go towards the overall repair fee) and I said that was fine. I got a call early the next morning (I'd dropped the car off right before they closed) telling me that the issue was something else entirely and not related to the transmission. I went to pick it up and wasn't even charged (probably because the solution was easy to spot if you knew what you were looking at, but still). Overall was really impressed with the honesty of it, and when I do need transmission work I'll certainly be taking my car here. The only reason that I'm not giving five stars at this point is because I can't speak to their actual skill in the shop as they didn't need to work on my car. read more

Given the prices and unavailability of new and good used vehicles, when the transmission went out on my Odyssey I decided to have it replaced. Two shops were recommended by my mechanic. I first chose a different one which offered a longer warranty, but the pricing came back much higher than I expected (I will do another review for that place). I had already contacted Mike at Northgate Transmissions and talked with him again. He did a great job explaining to me that he could have my transmission rebuilt at his shop with up to date quality parts, and gave me a general price estimate (before checking out the van) that was much better than the first place I went. Feeling very comfortable with Mike and the information he provided I had the van towed to his shop. The next day he gave me a precise quote for a completely rebuilt transmission (not used or rebuilt somewhere else) that was significantly lower than the quote from the first shop. It comes with a two year warranty. He told me it would take about a week to have the van ready and sure enough, I picked it up a week later, and it is running great! It was a big decision with much anxiety to have the transmission replaced and I am very glad I took it to Mike! I wish I would have gone to him in the first place. If you are reading this and trying to figure out what to do I highly recommend you talk to Mike first, he will give you good, honest information and provide high quality work at a good price. read more

The technician was rude when I went to pick up my car. I was told to drop my vehicle off over night and leave the keys in a night box that's not attached to the actual building. I was asked for paperwork that I was never given and was asked to pay $80 just to look at my vehicle. Upon leaving with my vehicle I noticed a deep scratch on the driver door. Took my 2008 Honda Fit in due to a catastrophic transmission failure. Mike Yeager did the diagnostic and recommended a full transmission rebuild with upgraded internals (better than OEM). I had them complete the work, took about 6 business days. The car drives great now, way more power than before the operation. I was very impressed by how professionally the entire operation is run. Mike was great on the phone explaining everything and going over all the options and pricing. They were spot on with both the time and cost estimates. When I picked up the car, Mike went over all the details of what had been done and all parts used are listed on the receipt. Work included a 2year/24k mile warranty. They had my car for two weeks because they were "busy." When it came back to the mechanic, it's worse than it was, making more noise, lights coming on on the dashboard and difficult to start - none of which it was doing before. Totally unacceptable. This company is floating off the reputation of the old owner. I do not trust these people at all. I took my car there cause its been highly recommended by many older people who don't know the place has been sold. The man told me he never once looked inside my transmission but he hooked to a machine and it was unresponsive so "its broke". And proceeded to quote me approximately 3000 dollars. When I asked what if you get inside and the price is more or less? Hes says " it can go up, but its never less". Long story short it ended up costing me 500 to fix with a different mechanic. Maybe I should be blaming my Uncle. Pretty sure it's a trans problem on our Benz, I didn't want to take it to a dealer especially since we were in from out of town, my Uncle recommended this place and said he worked with a "Tom". Great I called them, guy answers I ask for Tom, guy says "he retired a while ago" (figures) I went to proceed to speak and he hangs up on me, I call back and he repeats this process. Never in my life have I seen a company behave this way, I'm guessing hiding from bill collectors but my God this was just so juvenile. My 2005 Honda Pilot radiator ruptured mixing yellow fluid with the red transmission fluid. Jeff Wyler Honda gave my car it's last rites and could install a new transmission for $4000 parts plus $2000 install. No way. Took Pilot to Northgate Transmission where I had 2 prior positive experiences years ago. Manager/owner Mike confirmed the doomed transmission, but suggested a thorough cleaning and rebuilt kit with a 2-year warranty. Car in on Monday and work completed on Friday as promised. Cost was exactly as Mike quoted me. Our fam was on vacay for the week and Mike called my cell 2x to keep me up-to-date with the progress. Folks, this is how a business should be run! Horrible instead of resolving the issue the owner rather fight it. They rebuilt my transmission. Months later with under 2,500ml problems started. Took it back sat on their lot for weeks. Had it moved to a reputable shop. Wow the shotty half done work they couldnt believe it. Because of what Northgate transmission wont take the responsibility for it cost me $10,000.00 to fix right. Today I've had it back for three day now just glad i found a reputable shop to fix there mistakes. read more
