Shane White runs a private gym at his home which consists of a fully equipped weights room, a cardio room, and shower and change facilities. This gym is open to clients when they are receiving personal training from him. His setup is very good, and I like the experience of training at a private gym because you are never waiting for equipment to become available, so the intensity of the workout is much higher, and therefore more effective.
Northgate Personal Training has been running for some time, and I had seen his adverts since I moved into the area over 8 years ago, but thought that personal training wasn't for me. Then ironically in a hot chicken shop on a day where I was not feeling happy as none of my attempts to get back into exercise had worked, I saw his adverts again and decided that I should give it a go.
Shane manages to strike the right balance between being firm but encouraging, friendly but not so chatty that the intensity of your workout suffers. He offers his clients many forms of motivation, I travel frequently and so often get an encouraging text to ensure that I am eating correctly or following the programme he wrote for me at the hotel gym. Shane makes me feel like I am in safe hands and so will go that extra rep or try that new exercise with more confidence. He also makes sure that my workout is never boring - it is always changing, so I never quite know what he is going to get me to do, and I like not having to think about it, but just doing what he tells me to do. Sure enough in just a few months I am seeing far better results than when I trained on my own, and I am more diligent at attending sessions because I feel encouraged and also because there is something in making an appointment that makes you keep it more than if you were training off your own back.
I was very unfit and I must admit that the pre-concept of what a personal trainer would be like put me off. I had visions of a military style guy, and of feeling inadequate and self-conscious. Shane is not one of those old-school trainers that shouts and uses humiliation, he is smarter than that, using well placed compliments and respectful encouragement to get you to achieve your best. He also gives you lots of advice and information along the way with many printed hand-outs, and frequently a new product or two to try out.
Since starting to use Northgate Personal Training, I have lost 8kg and put on muscle. Friends and work colleagues are now noticing the changes and I am feeling more healthy and confident. If you live in the area and you are looking for a trainer, then I recommend that Northgate Personal Training is on your list of options to consider. I am glad that I gave it a go, and found that the idea of having a trainer wasn't nearly as intimidating as I thought it would be. read more
