North Adelaide Fitness Centre has won a plethora of Adelaide awards as an independent fitness…read morecentre and gives the bigger, more expensive gyms a really good run for their money. North Adelaide runs a fully equipped gymnasium with separate weights and cardio room. In addition, they have two rooms allocated for fitness classes. They run all of the popular Les Mills classes and a couple of their own including Pilates, Yoga and Kickboxing. They also offer RPM in the cycling room downstairs but I cannot tell you what it's like because RPM is the worst kind of pain ever invented and I rather poke my own eyes out then go. The staff are super friendly and will sit down with you and work out what they can do for you to help with your weight loss and fitness goals. They will also create a personal fitness plan for free and they go through all of the exercises and movements so they can be performed and safely and correctly for the maximum benefits. They also run boot camps and fund raising fitness classes which make for an exciting and uplifting atmosphere, where you really feel welcome. Because of its location there is limited parking which can be a pain in the butt, and the street is also used as a shortcut for traffic coming from the city. So try to avoid peak times and there will be less traffic, more parking, and less sweaty beefy men filling the weights room!

I came from another gym close by and left due to lack of equipment and no classes. I have made my…read moreway over to New Life Fitness Centre a month ago now to try out what they have to offer. I am extremely happy with the service I have received from the staff and instructors. Every time I walk up to scan my way though I am greeted with a smile which is great service in my opinion. The equipment is much newer than the club I came from and I am exited to continue my fitness journey with New Life. Massive thumbs up guys and would highly recommend to the beginners and also the pros.

The 25 metre lap pools are a good depth and wide enough lanes. The diving pool is fantastic for water running and for a more casual swim. The change rooms are clean and well-looked after. The members only change room is smaller and more private, and each cubicle has a soap dispenser, which is handy if you forget things as much as I do. The spas and saunas are great. There are two large spas, which I would go in more often if they weren't mostly filled with overweight old men or kissing couples. Nothing can keep me out of the sauna though. They have a dry and a wet sauna. I frequent the dry sauna, as it is just the right temperature that you can stay in it for a reasonable time. You're sweating like crazy, but it only becomes uncomfortable after about 10 minutes for me, which is longer than I can normally bear it. This is a well planned and set out facility, with plenty of showers and drinking fountains. I only wish I was a lot younger and could play in the kid's pools, because they look fantastic.

Lots of free car parking on site depending on what time of day you arrive and from there a short walk to the front entrance. Surrounded by parklands and the ever so popular Bush Magic playground in Park 2 nearby, is sure to please all family members. Entry prices are reasonable: adults and kids $7.50ea, kids under 3 years of age are FREE, concession $6.00 and there is a family pass of $21 (see conditions). A multi pass can also be purchased if you wish to be a regular. There are three types of swimming pools being main, diving and leisure pools, spa, sauna, gym, steam room and other sessions. Inside is a cafe and swim shop for all your daily needs and especially is you've forgotten something from home ie towels, etc. Every school holidays there are programs for kids to join, a creche for the kids whilst mums and dads get their fix of fitness and birthday parties are also catered for. Check out their website for more information and opening / closing times. If you don't want to get fried at the beach or have sand kicked in your face by passing dogs, go to the pool!

Being comfortable at a gym is important for me coming back often. I liked how their treadmills are really good quality, has incorporated new technology I've never seen before, all the rooms are well lit and clean, big lockers, but what I noticed most was there was a lot of walking space all around - no more having to worry about awkwardly bumping into beefy big men at every turn. The rooms are not too heavily packed in with too much equipment, and the layout is spread out with cardio, larger than usual group rooms, and a weight area with enough free and fixed weights (those with pins). Oh, and there's that new hanging machine in the middle. On the down side, I do have to catch a bus from my house to come here... but I'll give this gym a good go. Even after joining (largely thanks to the Tash, the most positive and enthusiastic sales consultant I've ever met), I felt like going back another day. The rest of my day was a little less fun without her. If you're worried about cost, there's several generous payment options to choose from, unlike many other gyms. If you do decide to join, mention my name and say that I told you about this place! ;)

There are lockers out in the main area so you don't need to go into the change-rooms (and risk seeing the inevitable naked old men) if you just need to drop off a bag. There aren't too many meatheads and the staff are friendly. The only real downside is that it gets a bit busy in peak periods, but that is true of most gyms...
