If you want to learn how to shake it South/Central American style, La Bomba is one of the best…read moreplaces in Adelaide to do it. I'd heard about them over the years, but finally shimmied on over to their Hindmarsh studio (in the Serbian Hall) when I got a bargain 10 visit pass from one of those online coupon sites. La Bomba runs an array of Latino Dance classes, including salsa, reggaeton, rueda, zumba and my class; samba. I'll start with the niggly negatives. The hall is RIGHT NEXT TO the Entertainment Centre and not far from Hindmarsh Stadium, which means 8 times out of 10 parking is a biatch! On top of that, parking inspectors love the area on events nights so watch out. I also found it quite off-putting that during classes the woman that checks people in (I think she may be the owner) sits at the back talking and laughing with a bunch of randoms. I think these randoms are advanced dancers that come to freestyle once all us beginner chumps are out of the way, and I can see that it indicates that they have a fab fancy footed community, but for someone who is self conscious and is really proud of herself for walking through the door and giving her booty a shake, having a bunch of experts laughing at the back of the room is not only off putting, but just comes across as really unprofessional. All that being said, my main instructor was LOVELY. She just wanted us to have fun, be confident, enjoy the class and strut like Beyonce. I loved her energy and her instructing style. We did have another instructor a couple of times, and whilst he definitely knew what he was on about, he was much less fun and much stricter... which didn't suit me but I know others would love. Overall, La Bomba is definitely worth a visit if you can get your hands on a magical coupon site pass or you're really into latin dance, but for me I probably wouldn't pay full price. Instead I'm on the search for another spot to give my hips a wiggle. ;)

A hidden gem, a Latin dance studio in the heart of Adelaide on Gillies St Adelaide, hidden behind a…read moreschool on Dumfries Place. Upon arrival, you are welcomed by a beautiful team of experienced dance teachers, Oscar, Getty and Manuela. They love dancing, have the patience and passion to teach you, all with a genuine smile on the faces. There are plenty of classes to enrol in, from salsa, modern bachata, bachata sensual, dominican batchata and workshops with social dance events throughout the year. Most importantly, the staff remembers your name and wants to genuinely get to know you as a person, and your dance goals. From a business prospective, its so important to know your customers to retain the loyalty, understand what they want and keep them coming back. This studio is definitely heading in the right direction! There are special deals online through their website and Facebook page, it's usually $18per class but if your a dance Cray Cray like me, you might want to try the new students one time offer for $39 PER WEEK x 4 | 4 Weeks Unlimited Classes $156 or $25 per day x 5 days for $125. Note prices may change upon this review, please check their website for price changes. Once you pay online there are instructions to download their app to enrol into their classes and also to continue any future payments with different packages such as ongoing memberships or casual passes. Now we know how it works, would you like more details right? The juicy bits, the way it makes you feel when you learn new moves, how are the vibes of the community? Will my skills improve? Firstly, anyone that joins is a follower and when they progress becomes a leader, which is pretty epic so you can learn both lead and following as a dancer. The workshops and social dance parties are spicy as, lots of flavour, positive attitude on the dance floor, by creating your signature moves, your own recipe, your own unique style so you can own it on the dance floor The studio has it set up to have 3 classes in a row of the same style while building layers to tie into each other, so a student can progress through each class by learning musicality, body isolation, styling, footwork, body and head rolls. Having 45min dance class isn't enough, but having 3 in a row and a bit of social dancing afterwards,it's like having a meal at a restaurant. *Entree: a plate of mouth-watering dance warm ups then inviting your body for techniques and movements and some combos. Once the music starts buzzing in your ears, you want your main next. *Main: Served as spicy as you can get, repeat of body warm ups and isolations, tantalising new footwork, styling and combinations, leaving a burning taste on your dance toes. *Dessert: Infused with the last 2 classes, dessert is served of rich and smooth footwork and more unique combinations, bringing out a a sweet sensational signature move you thought you never had. *Coffee: Thought you were full with dessert? No no no, they offer some social dancing to practice some freestyling, your body and feet will eventually leave the studio on a high. Dance Amor has a dance community for you, they will support and welcome you to feel more confident on the dance floor at social events as well as most importantly, the community is warm and friendly by keeping in touch through their apps of communication. Are you feeling the vibes yet?

I remember when electro music was getting really big again and there was loads of hype about…read moreElectric Circus. I could never be bothered lining up in their ridiculously long queue, with no guarantee that I'd get in within the hour. Fortunately a friend of mine worked there and brought me in on her door list one night, and my curiosity was subsided. To be frank, it was shit. It didn't live up to my expectations at all. Whilst the bar area was kind of cool, the dance floor was made with those retro black and white tiles, and everyone was dressed like a dick. Fluorescent t-shirts, sweatbands and wearing sunglasses indoors (at night, underground) is not and never was cool, unless you were freaking Olivia Newton John - and was she ever truly "cool" anyway? I'd gone back a few times to see if I'd change my opinion of it, but my mind was made up. The drinks are way overpriced, the music is interminable, and the people are all either on pills or just naturally love dancing like nobheads. Save yourself the misery and head upstairs to the far superior Rocket Bar.

Electric Circus is my favourite club in Adelaide. It's open Thursdays, Saturdays and occasionally…read moreon Fridays. The music is predominantly electro, boasting some of the best resident DJs, including Loot and Plunder who were voted the best DJs in South Australia by In The Mix. Almost every week they have national and international guests playing at the club. Some of these have included Ruby Rose, Sinden and Uffie. The interior has recently been renovated, with new comfortable seating areas, a shiny long bar and of course a massive dance floor. Now we need to talk more about the dance floor. Right next to the DJ booth there is an area with padded walls. I can't stress to you how amazing these walls are, especially when you're dancing after having one too many drinks. The toilets leave a lot to be desired, however, this is very normal for nightclubs. There are only two female toilets so there is often a line, especially if one becomes unusable during the night. The price to get in varies between $10-20 depending on the night and guest. There is also usually a large line, so be prepared to wait for a while. Electric Circus is busy, messy and sometimes a bit dirty. I would definitely recommend going here if you are planning on having a large night!
