The centerpiece of this park is the Women's War Memorial Cross of Sacrifice and its Memorial Garden. Backed by St Peter's Cathedral, the cross holds a striking place in the park, as everything spans from it. I'm not sure how a cross symbolises the deaths of these men, but I have no doubt there are many ways to interpret it. To the side of the garden is the Eternal Flame Remembrance, also dedicated to "those who made the supreme sacrifice." Though beautiful, this place makes me rather sad. Though I agree we should remember those who died, I don't think it's a matter of making them heroes, but of reminding us not to let it happen again. This is a strange place, juxtaposing the beauty of nature and the sorrows of humanity.

It is a haunting…read morestructure of some 11.6 metres that was built just two years after the end of World War I in 1920. The Cross is made of Tea Tree Gully stone and there is a large sword on the face. I have to admit I've never understood the significance of the cross but can only assume it is a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Every year on Anzac Day the crowds gather at the Cross of Sacrifice after the march for a service to pay tribute to the fallen. It is always a poignant ceremony and more than one or two tears are inevitably shed. This is such a solemn and almost sacred area that being there at any time of year, one can almost feel the sadness and the grieving in the air. And yet it is also a beautiful place.

This playground is fully fenced and the entire space has a rubber flooring. There is a drinking fountain, tap, table/chair and BBQ all within close proximity to the playground. Unfortunately there isn't any shelter/shade over the table but with the massive gum trees in the park, there is some shade depending on the time you visit. This is a great place to come but for me, it slightly falls short of my 'destination' playground status. Maybe I'm having a bad day lol. Of course, there could, perhaps, be a little more shade. We're in Australia, after all, not Siberia. But, regardless, this is a nice park. If it's your local park, it's worth being proud of.

Then when I checked out the actual KINGS RESERVE I became excited! There's parking down Meyer Street, down near the Thebarton Aquatic Centre and it's the closest you will be able to get the car to the playground. There's a lot of equipment for a variety of age groups and abilities.There's also a skate park and basketball hoop not too far from the playground. Bring some sausages and use the BBQ....your children will be here for quite a while! There are toilets, a drinking fountain, table/chairs and more than enough space to do any sort of activity you would like (provided there aren't sporting groups using the space). Lots of fun to be had here! Perhaps the only thing missing that would make me feel more comfortable about staying here for a long time is that there isn't a great deal of shade. It doesn't exactly go above and beyond, but it serves the local community well. My main gripe is that the local football team put chains over the goal posts so they can be used by the community - despite the fact that our rates pay for the field! I like to come and kick around a bit with friends occasionally and it would be nice to actually use the posts. Conveniently the reserve is just across the road from the Brickies, so we pop over there for a beer after the game. Other than this, I'm pretty satisfied. There is bubblers and shady spots (could be a few more of these, but not a big problem), a kid's playground and a skateboarding bit.

With a huge area of playground equipment, and a towering cubby house housing a flying fox, swings, a teeter totter and best of all, plenty of trees to climb and hide during a game of hide and seek. There is enormous shade available here and they have great BBQ facilities, seating benches, toilets with a changing table and a drinking fountain. We love coming here. Throw a picnic rug, walk bare foot on the mulch or soft grass, twirl, run, dance or jump. So much of fun and pleasure as you soak up nature's beautiful aroma, sights and sounds.

This is really evidence of the value of the local Council in this area; not just a Memorial Garden…read morebut a place you can bring your dog on a leash, a place you can have a barbecue and a place you can sit quietly and have a picnic or watch the kids play in a covered (sun smart) playground. Not every area has something as lush as this, and yes it is directly behind the Council Chambers, but it is also close to a couple of schools and Churches and the Library is next door so it is in a very good place for what it is. I am all in favour of green spaces that are central and likely to be used just as I am in favour of the little reserve in the suburban street.

I appreciate these sorts of spots and there is always a logical reason not too far away, in this case it is the elderly peoples home up the road; I suspect this has been placed here as a nice spot to go for a walk to, that isn't very far. Too small to be an attraction, but a pleasant enough hang space for nearby residents. There are two bbqs, a basic playground, public washrooms (open daily until 8pm) and best of all a button operated doggie water fountain. The driveway is accessible from Prospect Road (locked after 6pm). There's no official parking on this side, but you can easily leave your car there while you enjoy the park.

Old (out of date) reviews & pictures of the park mention the space is a little rundown, however this has all changed! The playground is only around 12 months old and is small but AWESOME! There are two trampolines built into the squishy soft-fall ground, along with a super-fun multi-person swing and a great rope climbing-frame. The slide is definitely more suited at younger children, but I come here with the 3-12 year-olds I work with and they all tend to find something to keep them entertained. In addition, the outdoor gym equipment has all been replaced in the last few months. I haven't used it, but it is all very new and looks like it offers more resistance and more of a work-out than the old stuff. As for the 'skate park', it's not huge, but should keep local teens (and the fully grown blokes I see on it often) entertained. Finally, older reviews also stated there was little shade. Again, this has changed. The shade is plentiful and is a mix of trees and sails/shade cloth. There are also two barbecues, one which is completely shaded. If you live in the area I highly recommend you check out this little beauty.

At the risk of sounding like a meathead (I'm not!) the exercise equipment is so easy it could only be useful for the elderly and frail. And it's located right beside the skate park... a slightly humorous combination! The bathroom, built into the swimming centre, is accessible from the outside. It's OK in an emergency. Dogs are permitted to run free, but only between 5pm and 10am. The setting is natural and full of native veg, but lacks shade. Depending on the season there will either be a lovely creek or a ditch running through the middle of the park. .

It has to be one of the most glamorous places in SA to go to the gym, complete with chandeliers and works of art adorning the walls. The place is massive and the facilities are state of the art - you never need to fight for a space to exercise. The class times are a bit awkward and don't really suit city workers, who I'd assume would be their biggest clients - so I'd recommend checking that out before you join. I'm hopeful that as they grow they will have more classes (especially yoga!) available. The biggest downfall is parking - unfortunately they have no designated parking and the car park across the road closes at 7pm which doesn't help those of us wanting to train after work. Street parking is the way to go but often difficult - unless you are doing a 6am class. Overall, a great gym and can't wait to see how it improves as time goes by!

The staff are friendly, always saying hello and goodbye when you leave the gym. The people who have set this gym up have a keen eye to detail, they are interested in providing an innovative gym experience. I have started with a Personal Trainer recently and it has been one of the best things that I have done. We have been incorporating a few crossfit exercises into my training and he has been able to make the training specific to my strenghth building needs that compliments my other activities. The gym boasts lots of great activities such as pilates, gravity yoga and pole conditioning. There is even a cafe on the ground floor with a wide selection of goodies for gym junkies. And if you have children, there are childcare facilities too. I haven't had a problem with carparking before or after hours either.
