I've been going to Northgate Market for about a year now, and I used to really enjoy it. Their cooked food is honestly delicious, and their sweet bread is always fresh and so good. I would even drive 20 minutes just to get it, and I never minded the distance because the quality made it worth it. Unfortunately, my recent experiences have been very disappointing. I've noticed that the customer service has gone downhill. Many of the employees come across as rude and unwelcoming, especially some of the older staff. You would expect better manners and professionalism, but instead, there's little to no effort to even smile or greet customers. It honestly feels like management isn't paying attention to the poor service being given to customers, and that may be part of the reason their ratings on platforms like Yelp are only around three stars. I was there just two days ago, and the experience really left a bad impression on me. Good food can only go so far--customer service matters just as much. Sadly, because of this, I won't be returning. read more

This location is older and more cramped but dont let that discourage you. Although it is not as modern as the La Habra location but their food selection and freshness of presentation of ready made food is definitely better. Specifically, ceviche bar, hot food, and hot tamales section!! The freshness is clearly excellent quality. The tamales was hot and made fully portioned of masa and filling. The ceviche bar was my favorite! More variety and freshness! They have octopus ceviche and it is mighty fresh! The balance of spice, seafood, and citrus juices. I am sold! Service is helpful and positive! I cannot wait to go back for more!! read more

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the service in the meat department over holidays . I kindly asked for assistance in cutting tendon/meat into two pieces given it's not easy to cut at home. I was rudely refused by the management, which was disappointing given they had done it once earlier in the year. This actually happened more than once. They said it was not in their policy to cut the pieces. However, I left and went to another Northgate in Norwalk, and they were very kind and helpful. They had no problem assisting me. The management in Norwalk said it was very wrong of Pico Rivera Northgate to refuse to assist with this. Pico Rivera Northgate have lost me as their customer. read more

I must say I was very disappointed to see that this market is hiking up the prices tremendously on the products that are in high demand. I always buy these brands of paper towels at about $3.99 and to my surprise they have a regular price tag of $11.99, also a 4 pack of cheap toilet paper, which would normally sell for like $2.99 has a regular price tag of $10.99 This is some serious price gauging going on here. It's very unfortunate that at the time we are supposed to be helping one another, some businesses will take advantage of loyal customers. I hope they rethink about what they are doing to people in need. I might report this store to the telephone hotline they gave out on the news. read more

Ralphs, Vons & Albertsons would enjoy hearing I buy vegetables, fruit & meat hear as much as you would enjoy hearing your significant other gets hugs, kisses and more from an extra significant other. Tonight I came for 300% Vitamin A, 150% protein, 80% fiber but I come here for much more. People seem to flock here in droves, on the border of Pico Rivera & Downey and not far from Santa Fe Springs & Montebello is Northgate. You will not see them on television and they do not have club card membership. They offer enough parking, a clean, organized store, efficient workers and more. The crowds do not die down here till later in the evening and I will tell you why. Thier Deli area is one where you can buy pre-packaged meat or have the butchers serve you (make sure you take a #). You can also pick up pre-cooked rice, beans, tamales, carnitas, large potatoe wedges, pork, spicy chicken strips, roasted chicken, and a variety of prepared pork/beef. They have quesadillas and the like at times too. Thier bread aisle is adjecent and corresponding to thier bakery section. You can grab sandwich bread, french bread, mexican pastry bread, bolio bread, cakes, pie, cookies and more. If you are in this area, just look north for this stores greatest asset. The Northgate vegetable and fruit area is one which can get crowded at times. Purchase good fruits and vegetables at prices you desire in our economy. While I purchased canned veggies today I do enjoy slicing thier carrots and buying thier apples. Thier watermelon is a favorite with many freinds and relatives. This place may not have atkins, jenny craig and a ton of health drinks, but seriously, with thier vegetables and fruit, who needs all those shakes. Thier aisles are not huge but suitable. They do not have a very large freezer aisle, that may be good or bad. They do not have a whole bunch of extras but you do see kids toys and candy towards the front checkout area. Thinking of my other grocery stores as I finish my healthy meal, I feel a little unfaithful like the song by Rihanna and like Beyonce I think, "If I were a store." I don't regularly shop here. The review is for their tamales. My husband's mother requested tamales from here a few days ago. Let me tell you, I'll be coming back! I only like Chile and cheese, but everyone else liked the rest: chicken, beef and pork. The tamales are $2 each, not sure what they're going for now, but I didn't think $2 was bad. We didn't try the strawberry ones. The champurrado was ok. I wish they had the tamales behind the counter; they are opened to self serve. read more

I go to this store frequently only because of it's convenient location to my house. However I will not be going their anymore and I would rather drive to another grocery from now on. I went their this morning and I go to hoy good counter and noticed their cases where mostly empty at 7:40am. I asked the lady behind the counter if they had carnitas, she shook her head no. I asked if she knew when they would have some, she said I don't know and you'll have to come back and check to see with an attitude. This isn't the only time I've had rude customer service at this store, the employees are not helpful and they seem bothered when you ask them something. Their bakery is joke, I went to order a cake for my daughters birthday a few months back. I told them I needed the cake for Saturday and the bakery manager tried to get me to pick it up 1 or 2 days before because she didn't have a cake decorator for Saturday. read more

Never coming here again! Every time I go to this northgate to buy vegetables they are always rotten. Today on the way home I went to go buy green bell pepper and tomatoes and ended up leaving with nothing. The green bell pepper wasn't even fresh, the skin was soft and wrinkly and tomatoes were so rotten they had white mold coming out of them. I told a worker and all he did was throw away the molded tomatoes and left the others. I studied microbiology and the tomatoes next to the molded tomatoes were cross contaminated and for the worker to not throw those tomatoes is going to give a customer food poisoning. read more

I'm such a fan of this market. It is a smaller market with narrow-ish isles and so it gets really crowded on weekends. Regardless, I love coming here for the price and the homemade tortillas! The produce is MUCH MUCH cheaper than any other market. I used to go to Ralphs for produce, just 2 blocks away. I have noticed it's significantly cheaper to buy veggies here. I always get my taco meat here. The pastor is always a hit for my family and the fresh tortillas are amazing everyday! I love their ceviche, guacamole, salsas, literally everything. I really wish it was much bigger like the other ones so there could be more food available. Parking is a huge nightmare on the weekends, especially with the huge crowd. It's very cramped and limited. I love Northgate stores. Unfortunately, this one seems to be one of the older ones. The isles are narrow and finding parking is sometimes an issue. Also, good luck with the shopping carts. They keep them locked in the parking lot all day long. Fortunately they keep a good stock by the entrance but if you want to put your used one back in the storage area in the parking lot, you won't be able to. I really love their produce, meat, and freshly cooked food. This is the only reason I keep putting up with the other issues I've mentioned. read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. The store itself had nothing wrong from what I could tell within the 5 minutes I was there but the quality of the prepared seafood was what made me an unsatisfied customer. I purchased two separate orders of ceviche, for two different people, each order having aguachiles and ceviche de camaron. I don't know which of the two upset my sisters stomach, causing her to leave from work early. While the other, the aguachiles, contained a hair and a piece of wire, also upsetting my boyfriends stomach. I've tried contacting someone via phone and I've gotten no answer. I find myself at Northgate about once a week and have been coming to this market since I was a kid. They have really done a great job updating and renovating the place in the recent years. The prepared (hot) food section is good and I stop by for tamales and salsa pretty regularly. They also have a great bakery! Big fan of their cheesecake and fruit tarts. I almost don't want to tell you about the jalapeño cheese bolios that they have because they sell out so fast and are so so tasty! The store is always clean and service is always friendly. Prices on produce are very good as well! My only complaint is that the parking lot is not awesome to navigate, but I don't think there is much they can do about that. read more

Our first time here. We came in for meat but walked out with so much more. First, don't come in hungry. The smell of the food is so yummy! They have everything you could possibly imagine. It's truly like being in Mexico! Fresh tortillas, meats and crazy specials! The people here are very friendly and attentive. We had meat in our cart and a lady stopped us to let us know that we also get free cheese and tortillas! And another told us how to get free sodas. We have found our new favorite market. read more
