Fun retro bowling alley. Perfect place to take a family of all generations. Reasonably priced, well maintained, friendly staff. We went with extended family right before thanksgiving and it wasn't too busy. Everyone had a great time. My cousin is 6 and we were able to put up gutter guards for her. You can easily put them up or down manually on your own. They also had the metal thing that she could use to load her bowling ball launcher for her too. The food is ok. Lots of fried finger foods. I like that it's retro. When we were there it was about midday on a Saturday and the place was empty. The snack bar was closed and drink selection was limited. The staff was friendly and place was clean. It was a good experience. read more

This place has character and I dig it. The people working were really nice and friendly. Went on a holiday Monday and it was packed with their Senior League. The front desk and concession workers let us know there would be a wait. Nothing fancy here but it was still cool to my 11 year old nephew. read more

Our group of four parents and four tweens had fun at this retro alley. It's strip-down basic. But the lanes are hot, and the attendant was professional and pleasant. We visited on a Thursday late afternoon, paid $55 for a hour-long game with shoes for everyone. And the kind attendant allowed our kids to finish their final frames even though the timer expired. My girlfriend and I just moved to Salem, OR from San Diego, CA. San Diego used to have 2 or 3 older bowling alleys that had real wooden lanes. They have since closed down and have been converted into apartment complexes or drug stores. It was a sad day when my favorite bowling alleys closed and I had to settle for newer, over-priced, synthetic lanes. Well, today I just visited Northgate Bowl off of Portland Road in North Salem. All of those good feelings came back. I was in my element! $1.50 games on Sunday, and yes, real, honest-to-goodness wooden lanes! Why is this a big deal, you ask? Well, if you want a reliable hook, on synthetic, you want a state-of-the-art, super fancy ball that is designed for an aggressive hook-- or the next best option, hurling the ball with reckless abandon and putting an ungodly amount of spin on it. On wooden lanes, just a nice handshake-grip with a moderate amount of spin applied does just fine to hit that sweet-spot to roll a strike. Any old bowling ball will do. Unfortunately, there isn't too many places to bowl in the Salem / Keizer area. In fact, I believe there are only 3 choices, Northgate Bowl being one of them. The outside looks as though it's stuck in the 70's and that doesn't change too much as soon as you enter the front door. The decor is a bit outdated, well very outdated, actually. It wouldn't hurt the place to have some cosmetic remodeling inside and out. The cafe / snack bar offers the typical selection of most bowling snack shops and, from what we had there, the food wasn't too bad. It's rather small but it does the job. The pro shop needs to be updated. Every time I've been there, however, it's been closed. Maybe it's because most of the times I've been there it's been rather late in the evening. Nevertheless, it could use a little beauty sleep. The staff has always been friendly, as far as I can remember, and the prices seem to be a little bit cheaper than it's competitors. I'd say that this is probably the better alternative to the other bowling alleys simply because you'll go home with a few extra bucks in your pocket. The lanes are in good condition and the lanes give a lot, which is pretty helpful for groups and families. If you can get pass the outdated decor, then this would be a great spot for you. read more

Never book a reservation here for a party or, in our case, a new years eve celebration. They overbook the lanes and my wife and I, here to celebrate our anniversary as well, had to share a lane with a party of 10 people. Sure, its "unlimited" bowling, buy when you're sharing your lane with a large group, you only get maybe 3 or 4 frames in during a 4 hour time limit. A complete rip off. Go to one of the other, more structured and less money-hungry alleys in town. You couldn't do much worse. read more

Great hometown wood laned bowling alley!! Not too big and not to small, with very reasonable league and non-league prices. This is one of the best bowling alleys I have ever been in, and I've been to many different alleys in many different states. I really appreciate the "home town feel" my husband and I received from Northgate the minute we walked in. The service is always prompt, helpful and friendly and the attendants treat you like a friend, not like some stuffy snobby bowler. The place is always clean and spotless. I've never once seen a dirty table, restroom, or sitting area. The snack bar is pretty good, too, with very reasonable prices.They make really good sandwiches and burgers. I've always walked up to a sparkling clean and tidy snack bar/cooking area. The snack bar attendants are always helpful and attentive. They pay special attention to what you exactly want to order, writing down all of the little details. They even go out of their way to make up a "special sauce" for your french fries. All of your food is cooked-to-order and hand delivered to you, so nothing is ever brought to you "already sitting out". They make your food wearing food handlers gloves, so there is no worry about cross contamination/bare handled food. My only regret? Not coming here years sooner when I first moved to Salem. read more

I love this place because of the $10 unlimited bowling after 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the amazing staff that are always on top of doing maintenance and being generally kind. I visited Salem and went bowling here three times because it was such a comfortable environment and it was extremely reasonably priced. 10/10 Will come back! read more

Had an awful customer service experience today. Really wish I would've gotten the workers names. Very rude and not helpful when discussing the guidelines for groups(which I was already fully aware of and happy to comply with). This is a major difference then visit I had last week at night time. I Love this place I pretty much live here I bowl 3 league's here and i have been coming here for 15 years every one is family here. This place is always clean everyone's always courteous . Northgate bowling alley sucks The lady at the desk did not greet us she was rude from the start because I knew some other people that wanted to go bowling they would not Service us but nobody was in the bowling alley not a person but the workers and they wouldn't serve two groups that knew each other. We even offered to bowl hella lanes apart. And only 5 of us walking in at once the others hadn't gotten there. I work customer service and know damn well you shouldn't talk to people the way the whole staff talked to me in front of my kids. I can't tell you right now the closers can really use better training in customer service because I'm gonna be honest that was embarrassing to be talked to like that in front of my kids. When I walked in she was more focused on the video poker players then she was on a family of five trying to play a game and then people we knew we're trying to play several lanes from us all she cared about was helping video poker she did not want to help families she did not want anyone in the lanes she kicked us out even though we tried to accommodate her CDC rules read more

We haven't been bowling in forever and when my 7 year old mentioned she wanted to try it out, we were on board since we have nothing but fun memories from bowling nights in our younger days. Went on a Sunday late morning, wasn't too busy, so we had plenty of room to spread out. It has a very retro vibe, which fits perfect with the activity :) The woman who checked us in was super nice and helped get us set up for keeping score. The prices were amazing! Rude employees and owner. We went for a birthday party and we were not allowed to have cake because of no outside food policy despite fact that they do not serve cake. kids being kids got us reprimanded despite the fact that they say it is family friendly. We spent close to 3 hundred dollars and were treated badly by staff and rudely by ownership when we complained. If you go they care only about regulars and treat new customers badly. read more

If you are looking for a new place to bowl, try Northgate. I brought my grandchildren here for a few games on a Sunday afternoon. The staff is polite and friendly, the place is clean and inviting. The owner was helpful when the coffee machine ran out of change. It is freshly brewed and ground coffee. Pretty good coffee for a bowling alley. The snack bar has a nice array of affordable items. Cheap place to bowl and the people behind the counter are very kind & helpful. I don't recommend the kitchen much. They don't really cook, as they do warm up. The last time I was there I asked, "So what can you tell me about your bacon cheeseburger, how does it come?" She laughed at me and said, "well, it has cheese, a burger, and bacon. Its a bacon cheeseburger. What else do you want to know?" Very disrespectful, dismissive and she was very angry at the idea of me even asking such a question. I rebuffed my question and said, "Well, what does it come with and is it grilled, microwaved, bbq'd, or how does it come?" Eventually after some pulling and tugging she admitted that its just warmed up meat in the microwave and I passed. The most I'll ever spend there at that part now is water or diet coke.
