To hot in center. The center is full of fans but over half the Air Conditioners are not working. The on in the Bar works but not out on the lanes. center need an upgrade very bad, Table wabble, the carpet is filthy and old, along with the tiles on the floor unstable. Hours stink, they dont open till 4 pm, which means you have to fight the traffic to go practice. I have been a loyal bowler for 25 years at center and starting to look at Bowling at Silvercreek lanes, we will see after this winter season is over weather I switch houses read more

We participated in a bowling tournament for the end of summer league. The bowling alley is a bit dated and has a lack of seating down by the lanes (only 3 seats per lane and only one table). Large parking lot and the front entrance had stairs which was weird to navigate your bowling ball bags. Looks like it has a fun arcade game room area for the kiddos. Full bar avail and snack bar. The bathrooms were in need of a deep cleaning. read more

I am really impressed by the team responsible for managing my friend's birthday party at AMF Firebird Lanes this afternoon. One never knows how events like this will go, especially on busy Saturday afternoons. But the manager and associates handled all of the logistics related to our birthday party with ease. At first glance, the bowling alley has a real old school vibe; almost everyone has stepped foot in a bowling alley like this before. The lockers, the benches for putting on shoes, the seat configuration around the lanes, the concessions, the signage... it all evokes a strong sense of nostalgia. But AMF has done a great job maintaining high standards when it comes to technology of the lanes, equipment, and arcade. Everything runs smoothly here. The staff were extremely helpful in setting up the seating area for my friend's party, including timing food delivery with our game play, helping with our cake, and managing cleanup when the time came. I think they even threw in a few extra guest cards for the arcade! Even though AMF Firebird Lanes is part of a large network of over 350 bowling alleys across the country, the management and staff at this location help create a strong sense of community. I don't bowl much, but if anyone ever asks me about party venues in Salem, I'll be sure to mention this place. Nice work, folks! read more

This alley is generally referred to by regulars as "FU Lanes" - more on that later. As a good (200+ average bowler) the lanes S U C K!!!!! The alleys, lounge, entry way, etc. was last update when Fred Flintstone and his buddy Barney bowled there. The average height difference between the approaches and the lanes is 3/4" - your ball is more likely to bounce down the lane than roll. Over the last 2-3 years, 90% of the 180+ average bowlers have left. "Owners" know they are the only game in town and could give a flying rats behind about keeping up the lanes, and could give large healthy BM about the league players. The pin machines are poorly maintained, and break down regularly, and the oil pattern is apparently done by a drunken squirrel. As for the "FU Lanes reference"... I challenge any Pro Bowler to come bowl here... you will laugh and leave after your first game. You can bury 12 balls in the pocket, and you will get 2 strikes, 3 tens pins, one 7-10 split, one 8-10 split, two 9-pins, one 8-pin, and two random weird leaves that you cannot figure out how the pins stood up. The racks are worse than a prostitute with a stuffed 5 hook bra, and three times as frustrating. The only thing going for it is the league bowlers are fun and have a sense of humor - which is fitting since this place is one big Joke. read more

Came here a bit last minute a couple weeks ago while visiting a new friend. Really unique facility. The cool gentleman upfront told me the story with the upstairs and how it just became some kind of random storage over time for such a large space (my first impression was it was - or used to be - a large banquet hall). Unique exterior welcoming facade. Nostalgic old school vibe lingers. Cool beans. Big spacious parking lot offset from the street; pretty interesting. We got a lane down towards the right side for maybe 2 games. It was good times and overall super neat & well kept facility for what it is. read more

Got the Groupon deal, Groupon told me to call ahead for availability. I did, and the automated voice message said "If you have a Groupon, feel free to just walk on in". They need to change that because it's untrue. I walked in and the man said he could only let us play for 30 minutes (the voucher was for 2 hours) because there was a bowling league using all the lanes. I called their line and they said it was on Groupon to refund. I called Groupon and they said it was on AMF to refund. I called AMF front desk this time and they sent me to voicemail, which I didn't even bother with. We're from out of town and leave before any openings so completely a waste, and it didn't seem to be within Groupon's control. read more

Overall: We should have saw the sign to not come here when multiple GPS systems, Google and Apple Maps directed us elsewhere. Location: My wife and I came down from Portland to explore Salem with her brother for her birthday and decided to take advantage of the T-Mobile Tuesday free game discount - shoes rental were additional cost. Not being familiar with the location, we turned on the car GPS which directed us to a residential neighborhood that was a dead end - Google and Apple Maps did the same thing too! We decided to drive out to the main street and then noticed an AMF marquee sign that was tucked in amongst the trees. When we parked, it was a bit confusing because it was a huge building with multiple different entry points. Luckily they had a sign with an arrow that said "Wanna Bowl" that pointed down stairs - not sure if it's wheel chair accessible. Service: We got there shortly after 4 pm on a Friday with many of the lanes still open. We honestly had intentions of only bowling one game because there were other places I wanted to surprise my wife with since she had never been to Salem. When we got to the counter and told who we learned was the general manager that we never been here before, he immediately went into the pricing - come to think about it, don't even think he even greeted us. We told him about our intentions and to see if we can get three separate lanes to save time. He immediately, without hesitation said that it's not allowed because when new customers come in, they wouldn't have any lanes and would have to wait. This made absolutely no sense because there was only one other group than us with 10+ lanes still open. Additionally, having three bowlers on one lane take up to 3x as long compared to each having their own lane - defeating his own argument that it would make others have to wait. When we left we noticed that there was only one new lane that opened up. read more

My 13 year old just had their birthday party here and all the kids had a great time. It's not cheap but honestly what is these days? The staff was awesome and extremely friendly. Loved the building as it's kind of a throwback in time. No regrets on having the party here. read more

Well I will agree that they are doing their best here to cope with Covid. They have friendly staff and are cleaning regularly. Leagues prepared and ready to go earn high marks. Low marks for first impression of walking down very dirty stairs to enter. The lack of clean appeal is an instant turn off. High prices at snack bar and taking $14.50 for the house from leagues is absurd. Talk about highway robbery when the national average is $11.75. It feels too much like price gouging to an outsider new to the area. Lane conditions good but again scuffed and dirty approaches. All negatives mentioned are correctable to easily move to a higher score. read more

Building has been repainted and looks great. My significant other called to make a reservation for 4 of us for a couple hours. We thought it would be packed since it was a Friday night. Their "deal" they had going on wasn't much of a money saver since he paid over $100. We were running a little late and they were kind enough to push our reservation back another hour. A little confused on the hours here because it says 5pm-10pm. We left our game at 10PM and the building was still packed with people not looking like they were going home anytime soon. This is a go to spot for most people who live in salem. It's open late and often pretty lively. It's convienetly located across from the mall and it's a great place to bowl for people of all ages. I often see young high schoolers with their friends and older bowling teams as well. They have a little bar area where you can get a drink or order food. They also have video games for the little ones. The prices here are very fair but always keep an eye out for coupons! They sometimes have some free games floating around out there! read more

My hubby, daughter and I came here on a Friday night for a friends kids birthday party. I have to say this is the weirdest place and location for a bowling alley. It's smack dab in a residential neighborhood and it's set WAY back from the main road. Heck, on the outside it doesn't even look like a bowling alley, but more like some type of Spanish hotel/mission. Anyhow... Upon arrival, I spotted the table with the league sign-up sheets. As I was browsing through the assistant manager came up and greeted me and was very friendly and informative about which league was which. Hubby and I have been wanting to join a fall league so he was very wise to have come and talk to me when he did!! My hubby came over soon after to the table and also had a nice chat with the manager. After our chat we headed to the front desk to check in. The guys running the front desk were very pleasantly polite and helpful, even with all of our mass confusion!! Somehow they put us up on lanes 3 & 4 which was right next to our friends birthday party. I consider this excellent customer service. We head down to our lanes and start our 2 hours of bowling. About 15-20 minutes into our first game the general manager came down to greet us and just chat with us. Apparently he came at the right time because my husband was on a hot streak and cranked out seven strikes in a row!! He offered me some tips on how to improve my throw and I too threw a strike. He asked us if we ever have been on a league and would we like to join one. I guess he didn't know the other manager had already asked but that's ok...we felt honored to even be asked. Well, hubby ended up with a 253 game after the manager chat. Not too shabby for not having bowled in over a year!!! We definitely plan to come back soon and hopefully be a part of a league this fall. The only reason I gave them four stars is because of how the girl that works in the snack bar area treated my daughter. This was our first time here and we did not know they did not offer water for free. My daughter went up to ask for some water for us and the girl rudely told her "We don't SERVE that here...IF you want WATER you HAVE to pay for a $2 BOTTLE." So my daughter asked her if she could have a cup to put some water in and the rude girl yet again tells her "YOU have to BUY A $2 BOTTLE! NO CUPS!!" My daughter came back to us, mortified that she got treated in such a bad way and refused to go back and ask for anything else. I wound up sending my husband back to get a pitcher of lemonade which cost $6...probably a lot cheaper than all those water bottles anyhow. Hopefully the management will speak to this girl and give her some advice on how to NOT be rude to new customers and especially young girls. :/ read more

I was searching for a place nearby my home to take my kids and my husband and I bowling. This place came up. It wasn't more then 2 miles away, so we went. This bowling alley is very nice, probably one of the best looking ones in town; however, it is not cheap. For 2 games of bowling +shoes we left with a bill of $63 dollars just for bowling. $5.99 for chicken strips (2) and fries (very small portion) and I couldn't believe the pitcher of beer prices at $20+ a pitcher. We left spending $90. I should have known from the empty parking lot on a Saturday night that something was wrong.... Never again. read more

The set up is nice but the service is terrible. Went on a double date to AMF hearing good things about the place. The old lady who was the bartender was really rude. Literally had to wait 10 minutes till someone came up to help you. Whenever we would go get another drink we were treated with disrespect and she talked to us as if we were stupid. It was very unpleasant and put us on edge. Also, we went for cosmic bowling and what we got was a half ass cosmic bowling set up. Half of the lights weren't on and some of the screens and projectors weren't even working. The sitting arrangement was two small, you could not have two parties next too each other without having people awkwardly stand with nowhere to sit. Luckily we were able to move to the far end with more space. I probably won't be coming back to this place. read more

I'll admit, I am not an accomplished bowler. Aside from being a 5 year old sleeping on the orange plastic chairs when my father bowled in a league back in the 70's, my bowling experience is limited to a few games every few years at the suggestion of friends. Which in some ways gives me the perfect viewpoint for the majority of the population, because a quick poll of the people I know indicates that most of the population has a similar relationship to bowling. Anyway, a friend suggested an Sunday afternoon diversion of bowling. Asking a friend who bowled in a league what was the best option in Salem, he suggested Firebird Lanes. When he said it's on Center Street I said, "What!? There's a bowling alley on Center?" Yes, there is -- just keep going past Lancaster. In about 1/8 mile you see a very large sign for Firebird that leads into what looks like a huge parking lot for an apartment complex. Huh? The building itself has NO markings, and it's just kinda... weird. But, inside, the place was spotless, bright, and early on a Sunday afternoon totally empty aside from two gentleman sharing a lane. The guy at the front desk were pleasant and helpful, and the woman at the snack was was super helpful, bringing our goodies and checking in on us a few times. A good selection of balls, and equipment that, to my eyes seemed well kept and in good shape. The shoes weren't gross (although no more stylish than any others). The seating is plentiful and well organized. I'd bowled in Keizer not long ago, and I'd compare this place to it very favorably (cleaner, brighter, better equipment, etc.). None of this helped my game, but it was fun and I hope to return a little more often and perhaps improve a bit. For shoes and two games it was about $12.00. It took the three of us about 1.5 hours to do that, as we were chatting and catching up at the same time. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon. Games are about $4.50 each, but there's a Sunday morning special: from 9-12noon games are like $1.69! This would be a great CHEAP way to have a little fun, catch up with friends and get your mind off whatever is ailing you! There appears to be a league option for just about anyone who wants to bowl. So join the fun! By the time we left, the place was at about half capacity, and there was a representative mix of Salem: young, old, white, Hispanic, male, female. All seemed to be getting good attention and service from the staff. As with any alley, walk in non-league traffic will take a back seat to league play. So, if you don't bowl and don't know if the place is going to be busy with league play, give them a call and ask. Sunday afternoons seemed to be open and offer ample availability. read more

Everyone here is great. The only reason I can't go here anymore is because of the lady and the bar. Everytime I have came here, she is extremely rude and makes comments about how the customers are inconvienincing her. We ordered two beers and she shook her head like we did something wrong. Then when she brought us the drinks she said "You know I don't normally deliver". I tipped her, and she shook her head as she walked away. Worst bartender ever! read more

I decided to try this place for the first time. Located in a quiet place that you could miss it if you don't slow down, big enough parking lot unlike the one in keizer. First impression walking in it was really clean. Was greeted by the man at the counter he asked us for our shoe sizes, told us which lane we would be at and then when we're done we'd pay after. I did request for the bumper to be up (little kids, it makes it "fair" for them) a ball did get stuck in the back and there was a telephone button so I just pressed and let them know and right away someone came to help out. A little table was there also with a menu and although we didn't eat there the menu did look good (alcohol menu also) as well as an adult bar, small arcade area, and it looked like a little store that had bowling balls. We played 3 rounds and that came out to $84.84 (which was considered pricey considering what I've paid for elsewhere) The bathrooms were clean. She then proceeded to the bar where she was working and was extremely rude to us and the customers in front of us. My first time going to AMF Bowling was last night with my husband and our couple of friends. My husband called 3 different times asking about the cosmic bowling and what time it started. The reason why he called 3 different times is because the first man who he talked to did not sound very confident of his answer and said "he thinks" it started at a certain time. When he called the second time he got a completely different answer, and then for the THIRD time he got yet another completely different answer. The third person he spoke to assured him he was correct about the time. My husband and I live in Stayton so it's not a close place to visit. By the time we got there (the time we told was correct for cosmic bowling) they informed us that it was another hour wait until it started. I was very irritated but we left and came back an hour later. When we came back the staff seemed decent, we got our shoes and went to our bowling lane. My husband told me he wanted to get a beer and was going to get a pitcher so I waited for him to get back. He came back informing me that I needed to show the bar tender my ID before she could give him more than one glass for the beer. Which is understandable. As soon as I entered the bar I asked the bar tender (A woman in her mid fifties with short hair and glasses) how her night was and her response was "terrible". As awkward as her response was, I told her I was sorry her night is going so terribly as I handed her my ID. Another woman came up to the bar after me and asked her a question, which the bar tender answered with a very terrible attitude. Pretty sure this made the woman who came up to the bar uncomfortable and she decided to leave the bar and not order a drink. As I observed around me, people where whispering about her rudeness and left the bar as well. The bar tender continued to mumble under her breath, I am unaware what she was mumbling, but she just did not seem like a pleasant individual and it appeared she was very angry. At this point the bar tender had not yet given me my glass, which was the point of me showing her my ID. While we were about to leave the bar my husband asked for my glass, she responded with a "snide" that she cannot give us any more cups until the rest of our party arrived. We told her we understood this, but we wanted our second glass. She told us "NO" we then asked her "we cannot have our second glass?" She told us no, that she legally cannot give us more glasses. I then explained to her that is the reason of me coming into the bar, so I can show my ID so I can have the second glass...At this point (I think after realizing she had not yet given me our second glass and she made herself look ignorant) she literally started YELLING at us, telling us she can take our beer back for arguing! Then continued to ask us if she wanted us to take our beer back! My husband (very angry at this point) told her that all we wanted was our second glass and that she did not have to have an attitude and be so unprofessional. She continued to yell at us, at this point I asked her if supervisor was present. She told me he was at the front desk so we took our beer and glasses (which she ended up slamming on the table in front of us) and left the bar. I was completely shocked at her actions and rudeness. My heart rate had raised so I decided to sit down to calm down for a little while before speaking with the supervisor. My husband ended up speaking with the supervisor without me, and told me he listened to him, but after word shrugged it off and did not say anything to him and continued to carry on with what he was doing. I was dumbfounded that staff would treat their customers like this! At the end of the night my husband and our friends lingered until closing time to finish our beer. The bar tender was extremely rude to us again (glaring at us and mumbling under her breath) and at this point I was too upset to say anything, knowing I did not want to upset myself further and cause a scene. The staff need to be trained better about the different times of bowling so there isn't any miscommunication when people call to ask. The bar tender needs to find a different job that she doesn't hate, RETIRE or be FIRED but in my opinion she needs to be fired. I have never dealt with such an awful, disrespectful angry person while being completely nice the the individual, she was COMPLETELY out of line. They also need to find a supervisor who can be a leader and know how to deal with situations like these and not ignore the customers about their awful experiences. We will be going to a different ally next time, and hopefully this lady ends up being fired from complaints. read more

Ok..sooo I RECENTLY got into bowling..I liked it before, but now I'm starting to like it even more. After YEARS I came back here, and I went with some close friends..I would consider them to be more like family. We went on a Friday night for their midnight bowling..and we had gone to a few bars before and when we went here I got really into bowling, and they have these shooters..they call them Tooters (test tube shooters) and OMG they are absolutely AMAZING! Also...you should try their long islands, I've never had such good long islands like the way they make them here. The next time I went they remembered us and gave us great service...I mean I've always had great service since then. Terry who works there is awesome...he's really helped me to perfect my game. It's sad because I don't go there anymore since I live in Portland, but I love the fact that Sunday through Thursday if you go 9-close it's only 10$ including shoes! They have some pretty great deals too if you're really into bowling. I like coming here instead of any of the other bowling places in Salem because of the service. I am always treated very well here, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. read more

If I could leave no stars, I would. Apparently to work here, you are required to be arrogant, smug, and completely rude. I now remember why I stopped coming here years ago. Particularly Chris Carrera, who I had the incredible displeasure to have to deal with tonight. Not only did he accuse me of not having the coupon code (which was open, enlarged and pointed to him on my phone prior to him touching my screen) he then proceeded to continue his rudeness by telling me that I couldn't contact anyone else with regard to my complaint on his demeanor. So here I am sharing with everyone, in the event that anyone with some authority sees this and takes some action. I am guessing that the corporate environment that employed these people, are not aware that this particular employee and the one next to him who was equally as disconnected and rude to another customer behind me, missed the module on how to show respect to customers. The only reason I stayed is because my friends, who also witnessed all of this, had already paid. This is not our regular alley, but one of our friends wanted to try something different. We all learned a lesson. We will stick with Northgate where the employees are friendly and helpful, the food is good, and the prices are reasonable. read more
