Pleasantly surprised that the random hotel I booked had a nice restaurant so I didn't have to brave the intense rain to get some food after a long day. The ambiance: 4.5/5 The service: 4/5 The burger: 3.5/5 Best parts of the burger: -amazing fries -nice pickled onions -toasty bun However, even though the meat had a nice crispy sear to it and it was cooked to medium, the meat itself was chewy and flavorless

Had a great time visiting the North Square bar while in town. I didn't get a chance to try the food this trip, but would love to in the future! The bar is cozy and quaint, in a great location nestled in the Washington Square Hotel, the cocktails are tasty, and my bartender (shout out David!) was so sweet! I had a Manhattan and Cranberry Hot Toddy, both delicious! Although seasonal, the CHT was a can't miss option. Very unique. The prices aren't bad either. It seems like a locals spot, which are always the best kind. Can't wait to come back here and try the food and other drinks!

After a nearby park event, stopped in here for brunch on a Saturday afternoon. Considering the crowds outside, was surprised this place didn't have more business, especially with the brunch deals. For ($25), you get a choice of entree, along with coffee and a brunch drink. Opted for the herb omelette, which had cheese and spinach inside. Well made eggs, actually fluffy overall with a good balance in the fillings. The side salad had a refreshing vinaigrette on top. The brunch drink was the mimosa - simple and paired well alongside the meal. Service is pleasant and they are very accommodating for groups. Outside seating is also available on the nicer days.

Inside of a dark, provocatively decorated restaurant reminiscent of a Gilded Age speakeasy, is North Square. The quail appetizer with butternut squash, swiss chard, and balsalmic. The star was the butternut squash, which was soft and glutinous. The vegetables were also pretty good with the balsalmic, but they tasted like they were just blanched--more definitely could've been done, like sauteeing in some herbed butter. Sirloin w Szechuan peppercorn, wasabi mashed potatoes, and Chinese broccoli (gai lan). Concept over Execution. The floral flavor of the peppercorn and hoisin reduction pairs really well with the sirloin. Wasabi and potato also wen well together. The dish felt a bit disjointed, which makes sense because they threw two flavors from different East Asian cultures onto one plate. The potatoes would've done better paired with chili oil, cumin, or simply garlic. Bread pudding w vanilla ice cream and an intense cranberry sauce. The nuts in the bread pudding was not my style, but flavor overall was pretty good. Not really worth getting it again, though.

Came by for breakfast the other day and it was a mediocre experience. Apparently the restaurant is attached to a hotel. Both indoor and outdoor dining was available. The restaurant was completely empty first thing on a Saturday morning. The front of the house seemed new and slightly confused. Staff wore a mask covering their mouth and nose and some even wore vinyl gloves. The smoked salmon eggs Benedict was ok. The eggs were poached well and the hollandaise sauce was ok. The English muffin was slightly over toasted and the smoked salmon was a thin slice... The potatoes were pretty unique although they didn't taste too fresh. There a couple pieces of asparagus inside. $17/head after tax and gratuity for breakfast

I wasn't too impressed but was looking for something quick and didn't want to walk around too much. Got the burger, it wasn't that good--not juicy and too big. Also Swiss as the cheese didn't do any justice. The fries were ok but worse than average supermarket fries. They didn't have chipotle mayo either.

North Square is an upscale brunch place that is similar looking to a diner, besides the "Jazz Brunch" area, which is limited seating to about 8-10 tables of 4 people. The staff were all welcoming and attentive. The "Jane" cocktail and mimosa were delicious. The eggs benedict wasn't anything special and did not include the salmon that it says on the menu. This restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating available. It was a nice experience with great live music, however, I would try another place in the future for brunch.

My friends and I had a brief reunion in NYC - we decided to book a reservation fat North Square as knew we'd be in the mood for good American cuisine after golfing at Chelsea Piers. I'd say it was about a 20 minute walk to get to the restaurant - right near the NYU "campus" along Washington Square Park. Outside, the restaurant has multiple enclosed booths for people who are uncomfortable with eating indoors. We felt comfortable with eating inside, which made sense since it was a tad chilly. Plus, there was plenty of space inside - the dining room is not tiny. We were greeted by multiple people and were immediately seated in a comfy booth. There were a few other diners inside, so we weren't alone...but unfortunately many people in NYC are still a tad nervous about being indoors. The menu is not extensive, which actually helped me since I often take forever to pick a meal. We started off with a small salad, which was delicious - we split it since we did not want a large appetizer. They put bits of bacon and pecan along with apple in it! I was sipping on a delicious glass of cabernet sauvignon (I forget the winery, oops!) while I waited for my LAMB burger - oh yeah, I was in the mood for it. The lamb burger was delicious. I honestly think it could have been cooked a bit more, but I did not say anything because I still enjoyed it and I was starving. The fries that came with the meal were fantastic. I also liked the mustard that came with the burger, it was great. As for my friends, one ordered a chicken salad while another had a cheeseburger - they were both very happy with their choices. THESE RESTAURANTS NEED OUR HELP WHILE THEY ARE TRYING TO RECOVER FROM THE AWFUL COVID-RELATED RESTRCTIONS - I highly recommend you visit North Square for a delicious meal in a SAFE, welcoming atmosphere.

Lavender Bee

I went to North Square for the first time for an office lunch and it was pretty good. The portions are on the small side and it is pricey, however. I ordered a Lavender Bee cocktail, which was delicious. The lavender is pleasant and not overpowering, and it has just the right amount of sweetness (the Bee in the title references honey as an ingredient). For food, I ordered a tempura shrimp sandwich and replaced the salad with fries. The fries were really good. Crispy and addictive and I ate all of them. The sandwich was also really tasty. The bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the shrimp was delicious and worked well with the bacon and avocado. I just wish I had more sandwich. Compared to my colleague's steak wrap, it seemed so small. I would definitely get the steak wrap next time for more food that, from what I heard, was just as tasty.

Ok, let's start with our absolutely fantastic hosts with the absolute most Taz!!! Umm, amazing! Made our fort visit and anniversary dinner the Best thing since sliced bread! Uggh. From start to finish, this was a wonderful experience, food was great, the place (indoor dining) was low key and just lovely, Taz was perfection on the menu, cocktails and just attentive. Also, I will add the entire staff was just wonderful! Thank you all for making our first time here, not our last time.

For my entree, I ordered the vodka rigatoni and a side of buttered broccoli. The vodka rigatoni was really good - liked the flavor and a decent size of pasta. The broccoli was really good for some reason to me. Also tried the truffle mac and cheese which was incredibly rich and tasted great. As a dessert, we had the chocolate pie which was dense, rich, and topped with a huge dollop of whipped topping. I really liked the atmosphere of the place, loud roaring 20s style with jazz playing. Plus I kept finding myself checking out the mural on the wall. Try it for yourself - but worth the fight to get a table.

This is the first time in my 36 years of life that I had meatballs and lasagna at a restaurant. Both were excellent. For appetizers we ordered: - Pinwheel lasagna - we felt that we had to try this and we are so glad that we did. It was gooey and delicious. The Robiolina cheese was a wonderful in this dish. The super thin pasta was tender. - Chrysanthemum salad - How have I never known that chrysanthemum salad could be so delicious? Someone else described the dressed as "bright" and I cannot think of a better way to describe the fresh taste. - Stuffed garlic flatbread - Reminiscent of artichoke dip baked in bread; good, but our least favorite item. - BBQ calamari - tender and flavorful For our main courses: - Sorpresine & Smoked Mussels - So much flavor on this "surprise" pasta. The combination of flavors was slightly unexpected, but everything worked beautifully together. The mussels were tender and added the perfect amount of smokiness to this dish. - Garganelli Giganti - The sauce and meatballs were perfection. I am very picky with sauce and this was really tasty. - Chicken Scarpariello - Veal "da Pepi" - This was the star (for me at least). I didn't know what to expect with speck, horseraddish, and banana peppers, but WOW. The veal cutlet was thin and tender. The breading was extremely crisp. Veal is very easy to dry out especially when this thin. - side of Charred Broccolini We all were able to share all of our items amongst the four of us which made it a great way to try so many different items on the menu. I also had a "Two Yoots" to drink. I was initially tickled by the My Cousin Vinny reference, but then felt I needed to try prosciutto washed rum. The rum mixed with min and cantaloupe very just as refreshing as I had hoped it to be. I wanted to try Nonna's nip, but I wanted to make sure I had enough room for all the food. My husband, parents, and I came in for lunch on a Sunday. This restaurant is tiny and it was packed, but service was excellent. I don't love the Open Table reservation situation, but that is about the only negative thing I have to say about our experience with Don Angie. San Sabino (their sister restaurant) is up next on our list!
