I didn't know what to expect personally but once we arrived our tour guide Ryan warmly greeted us and made the whole check in process super smooth. This experience was magical. This was a super fun adventure. Kaleo was a great tour guide. He gave us lots of tips for riding the ATV and lots of facts about what we were looking at on the tour. We saw wild pigs with baby piglets! You should absolutely wear water/washable shoes. Hawaii rains a lot and you ride through mud. I found mud in my hair along with all my clothing items. This was the highlight of a week long trip for all of us. Our guide, Ryan, was sharing so much info about the islands, the history and the plant & animals along the hike. It was exactly the type of hike we hoped for. He was also great giving tips and tricks along the way to keep everyone feeling safe and confident. I am usually scared of heights, but this was a breeze thanks to Ryan! The lunch included was really good. There were backpacks, snacks and water available to us as well. I feel like they really care about their guests having the best possible time and learning to appreciate the island. We will recommend them in the future and if we return, we'd take another one of the hikes or adventures they offer. The land is private owned, so there is no usual trail traffic. Shoutout to Keola for an amazing ATV experience! We were a group of 8, and it felt like a great mix of ATV riding and learning about the Hawaiian ecosystem. The overall ATV experience was by far the best I've had in awhile. There were a handful of moments we got to cruise and do some off-roading. When we made stops, Keola taught us about the the types of trees, plants, and fruits that are native to Hawaii. He also took photos and videos for us and was an overall super nice guy! We learned a lot about the Hawaiian language and got a mini history and geography lesson. You can definitely tell Keola is passionate about preserving Oahu's ecosystem and it was great to hear about the efforts EcoTours does aside from their ATV rides. Overall, I will definitely come back here to volunteer when I'm back in Oahu! My friends and I like to visit Hawaii and I would love to do more and give back to an island that's taken care of us. We've done the Kualoa Jurassic ATV tour on our previous Oahu trip and we wanted to do something different this time around.  I have to admit the scenery is better at Kualoa, however the ATV itself and the intimacy of the North Shore Eco Tour exceeded my expectations. I have very sensitive motion sickness issues, at Kualoa I was super dizzy if I'm the passenger and not the driver. Here I have no problem at all because the ATVs are more stable and powerful.  You also get a much more muddy and fun ride here. Our ATV had a mount in the front for our Go Pro camera so it was perfect.  Face mask is not required outdoors, but you will probably want it for the wind and dust! There was only us and another small family of 2 adults and 2 girls.  We also had a break in the middle with drinks, cookies, pineapple slices and mac nuts.  Just a warning: the bathroom on this tour is what you see in nature.  So plan accordingly. Our guide was informative in taking us around the mountains, the taro farm, showing us different fruit trees, and interacting during the tour with walkie talkies provided on the ATV. The tour started around 9:30am, and we were back just before 1pm. Overall a fun morning and we got to enjoy Big Wave shrimp plates and Shark's Cove nearby afterwards. read more

Our Oahu trip was the first week in November and I haven't taken a second until now to do anything with all of our pictures or writing reviews etc etc We were busy every day for a week - did a LOT of great things. Our ATV tour is one of out top two activities! (The other is Pearl Harbor & Aviation Museum.) I think my husband and son only agreed to the pinzgauer atv ride because they knew I wanted to do it -- but we all three had a blast. The tour was fun, educational, and exciting. It was November 4th - just before the real rainy season started; even though it rained overnight and did some sprinkling all morning, we did not get covered in mud. We saw beautiful views the whole ride. Our guide was friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. I don't know if he read his audience well or he was a perfect match for us - but he gave us the perfect amount of information - a lot! Without ever being boring or 'too much' about anything. We learned what we were looking at but also where and when some of the plants came from. He was great about answering questions. We loved learning, too, about the environmental work that North Shore EcoTours does. I would recommend this tour for anyone interested in going on an ATV ride and/or learning more about the flora and history of the flora in Oahu. Fabulous! read more

Need an excuse to get dirty then you gotta ride the mongoose ezrider. We had a blast with our tour guide Ryan. He made sure we knew how to maneuver the atv before we headed out. We got to ride some smooth roads, some dirt roads and the best was cruising through the farm. We got to see some fruit including avocados, bananas, mangos, papaya, and beautiful scenery. We were able to go at our own speed which was great for our group because some liked slow and steady while some liked fast and fish tailing it. This is an absolute must if you have time! We did the two and a half ARV tour and Keola, our guide was the absolute best! He was extremely knowledgeable about the trees and wildlife and provided so much rich history. Ryan rocks!!!! We did the three hour Wild Boar tour today. We were actually out for four hours. Crazy fun. They advertise it as a rough off-road ride through Hawaii but it's really a whole lot more. The company specializes in conservation and this is one way they teach people about Hawaii and it's natural history. We learned so much about the native and non-native plants and animals here. It was fascinating. How the Hawaiians themselves and others have brought so many non-native plants and animals here, some ending up good and others bad. If you're looking for a great way to spend some time, go off-roading, and learn a helluva lot, book this tour. We were really impressed. Note that there are several pretty rough patches on the route and you will get dusty and dirty. But that's part of the fun. So dress accordingly. read more

The Kualoa Jurassic ATV tour was booked so I ended up calling around for ATV tours. It cost more than the Jurassic tour but at the end it was worth every penny. Keoki was an awesome guide he had use smiling from the start to the end. My 7 year old son loved the scenery as it was just like in Jurassic park minus the dinosaurs. We did this in summer where it was dry so it was hella dusty. It was a ~2hr tour Ko Ko had lost of local knowledge of the area shared it though out the tour, he lead us to the top of the hill where we had drinks and snakes. Looks can certainly be deceiving when you pull up the address to check in but this off road tour was unlike anything I've ever done. Our tour guide Keoki truly made the experience. You get to see places on the island you wouldn't normal be able to go to and the views are incredible. My Ohana and I had the best time on the ATV tour with our guide "Keoki" Keoki really made us feel like Ohana as soon as we arrived. He had us laughing and smiling the whole time. The tour started out pretty chill, we stoped a few times and he told us a lot about the land we were on and the history of the Islands. He stoped to let us take some pictures and then he took us out in the the bush, it was muddy and slippery! We had a blast getting sideways and going through puddles, up and down some good hills. We were the first ones behind our guide and we actually got stuck! He had to get the wench out and pull us out. He was embarrassed about it, but we didn't care, it was all apart of offloading to me. We had to take a different path then the one the other group was on because he had to go back and guide them away from the area we got stuck on. I missed the fork in the road where he told me to stop and wait for them and ended up lost for a good 15 minutes. Totally my fault, but he found us and we had a good laugh about it. This tour was only 3 vehicles plus the guide, very intimate feeling and we really enjoyed that. Dress to get messy and bring a jacket or sweater as it can get cold up there. We got a little rain and we were not prepared! This tour was totally worth every penny we spent and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a real island adventure! read more

We went on their tour with a large family group of 14 people. Ryan, our tour guide was amazing... friendly, informative and helpful. The ATVs were fun to drive and ride, depending upon your preference, and the views and nature were spectacular... a really fun trip! It's about 3 hours, but it flys by. The terrain varies from smooth to bumpy, but the vehicles handle it all. Having gone on other ATV tours in Oahu, this one is my favorite as it combines fun terrain and off roaring with spectacular views, and a interesting information about local flora and fauna. Definitely a great experience. Never judge a book by its cover. I have done the Kualoa ranch UTV raptor tour and this one. The Kualoa was good. They have all the amenities with the facilities. However, the North Shore Eco tour was a step above in terms of total experience. Ryan our guide is a conservational biologist and works hard protecting the land. He was a great host and a cool guide. The tour was epic and the off roading was crazy. 3 hours long compared to 2 hours (Kualoa). He toured places that no other tours could take. Just an amazing! Feel free to continue reading my raving review for the ATV tour with North Shore Eco Tours or just go ahead and book it now to save the time. Everything about this tour and operator is FANTASTIC. I would go so far as to say that this is the best tour we have ever done on Oahu - and we've travelled out here 5 times so far. On previous trips, we have done ATV's at Kualoa Ranch. I have nothing but good things to say about Kualoa. But it is a bit "touristy". And after you've done it... you've done it. So, this time, we were looking for something different. North Shore Eco Tours has been operating for over 10 years. They originally specialized in multi-passenger (10-12 people) jungle vehicles (and they still have those). But coming out of Covid, they introduced ATV's. Covid rules demanded smaller groups per vehicle. So, they purchased new Yamaha ATV's. The first thing you will notice is that these are brand new (2021 models) and well cared-for. You check-in at their location in Hale'iwa. Their location is directly across the street from the Farm to Barn Café - kind of between Café Hale'iwa and Hale'iwa Town Center for those that have been here before. It is a very basic looking setup from the road, but don't be fooled for what's to come! Keola was our guide. As it turned out, we were the only ones (my husband & me) on this tour. Another couple had booked but had to cancel because of Covid. Keola is a native Hawaiian and probably the best guide on any tour we have done here. Kamehameha School owns the property - roughly 25,000 acres in this area (about 5-6 times the size of Kualo Ranch). They lease land to several farmers. North Shore Eco Tours is the only tour on the property. They are a small local business that also leases from the school. The tour was a fantastic blend of adventure, history, culture, agriculture (ever wanted to pluck an avocado or mango right from the tree?) and language. We finally got ourselves beyond aloha and mahalo! Some of the tour uses paved roads that the military built during the war. Some is in open fields where farmers have their crops. Some of it is through "jungle". It is truly something for everyone. Each vehicle has a 2-way radio. The mic is on a retractable cable within easy reach of the front passengers. There is a good-sized speaker mounted in the ceiling. Which is awesome because Keola was giving us an amazing amount of information as we drove for 2.5+ hours. And we could ask questions using the mic in our own vehicle. Keola knows everything! We had a couple of stops along the way for photos - amazing vistas of the high surf on the North Shore as well as the mountains. And about 2/3 of the way through, we stopped a their "base camp" where Keola broke out a nice collection of fruit, cheese, crackers, nuts, juice and water. The view from base camp was breathtaking. One bit of "recent" history that Keola shared with us surprised me. When we did our first stop and looked out over the ocean, he pointed out a tree line near the beach. There is a cleared area just before the trees. The road runs along the other side of it (on the water side). When the attack occurred on December 7, we all learned in history class that the Americans got only a few planes off the ground. I just always assumed they were from Pearl, or Wheeler. No. As it turns out, about a week before the attack, they had moved some planes out to this field in Hele'iwa for training. So, the few planes that America got off the ground came from that air strip. I could rave for pages about everything we saw and learned on our tour yesterday. But in a way, I don't want to spoil the enjoyment you'll have by experiencing this amazing place and great tour yourself. But let me close with a few details and maybe answer some questions you might have... · The ATV's hold up to 6 people. Each family/group will have their own ATV. You can split your group and take multiple ATV's if you choose. · There are plenty of opportunities to swap drivers along the way. · They take no more than 3 ATV's out at a time (plus the guide's ATV). · There is only 1 tour going on at the same time. · They do morning and afternoon tours. · Tours run 4 days/week (check their schedule). On the other 3 days, they do maintenance work on the trails. · A few weeks ago, they had a lot of rain. Since then, it has been dry. So, it was pretty dusty at times. I would recommend bringing a neck gator. A covid mask works fine, too. · Covid masks are only required when checking in. · The ATV's have roofs and doors. But no windshields - which is fun! But you are protected from the sun in the vehicle. · Seatbelts & helmets are NOT optional. · They supply protective eyewear or you can use your own glasses/sunglasses. · Vehicles are cleaned after every trip including sanitizing all surfaces, helmets & glasses. The Big Hiking Adventure hike was amazing with beautiful scenery, slightly challenging water crossings, private swimming area, groomed trails, and very private (on land with very limited access). My husband and I were vacationing at a resort at Ko Olina and we like to get out in nature when we go on vacation. We scheduled the 4-hour shorter tour and it was great. Guide Ryan was friendly and knowledgeable. It was a more difficult hike than I anticipated, as some inclines are quite steep and the soil was crumbly and dry. You need good shoes for the hike. Our excursion included lunch, and that was a bit disappointing. We are vegetarians and they specifically asked us for our lunch order. Naturally we ordered a meat free option. But everyone in our group got chicken. The others in the group said it tasted pretty good. My understanding was that the problem with the order was due to a communication problem with our resort. They provided water and energy bars for snacks. They provided backpacks to carry your stuff. You get a chance to take a dip in the river, which is refreshing. I jumped in wearing my hiking clothes because I didn't want to bother with changing. It's rustic. If you have to pee, you do so on the ground. If you change clothes for swimming you do that outside. We saw a few critters- shrimp in the river, wild pigs, and a bull that had escaped from a local farm but hadn't been caught for months! read more
