I bought poultry here that turned out to be spoiled, it had a strong, unpleasant odor. I regret not throwing it away immediately, but I assumed it was just the typical smell and went ahead and cooked it. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that it was indeed bad. This is actually the second time this has happened, which I only fully realized today. I would strongly advise against buying meat, poultry, or seafood from this place, as it clearly needs a proper health inspection. I hadn't been here in a while. Shopped today and there were decent sales on advertised items. Some produce was old though. You needed to check closely what you were buying. The staff behind the meat counter was attentive and helpful. However, the woman at the register was very unhelpful and I had to bag my own groceries. Bad last impression. Extremely rude cashiers and manager- even worse. The price on a box of cookies was lower than what they rung up on the register. On a recent visit, the male cashier had AirPods in and was not friendly in the least when I went through the checkout, which prompted me to write this review. I stop here from time to time for unusual items, English chocolate bars, tea, jam, produce, cookies, flat bread or spices. It's nice to have the variety in the local area, but with narrow aisles and so-so customer service it's not the best 'experience'. Sometimes the produce doesn't look that great. This review is strictly for the eatery inside and adjacent to the North Park Produce grocery store known as the Bakery and Grill. I simply stopped in for lunch and ordered the Greek salad with a single chicken kebab right on top for $9.95. One thing this salad needed was a few slices of warm pita. In addition to the chicken, the salad came with lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, kalamata olives, and feta cheese. The lettuce was a mix bag, with some pieces being fresh and crisp and others a little limp and discolored. The tomatoes were good and cucumbers and onions fresh and crisp. The kalamata olives were of good quality and had that good brine flavor. The dressing that came with the salad was a simple olive oil and vinegar base dressing but it was tasty. The feta cheese was milder than most and did not have that good salty level and was smoother and not as crumbly as most. I think it was a Persian version of the cheese and not particularly Greek. The chicken kebab was no doubt the star of the show. The chicken kebab not only had great color, but great flavor and tenderness. It was very well prepared with a combination of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean seasoning, hence flavors. Given it was all white chicken breast, they did an outstanding job keeping the chicken tender and juicy. A nice accomplishment given they cooked the meat over and open heat source. The young lady at the ordering counter was very nice. You order at the counter and they bring your meal to you. Also, given they make some of the food to order, like the chicken kebab, it can take a little longer than usual for the food to come out. read more

We first discovered North Park Produce twenty years ago. It has been our "go to" place for Middle Eastern and Mediterranean foods since then. The produce aisle is like an open air market in Iran -- fresh produce at reasonable prices. Specialty items in the fresh deli case include cheeses and Italian cold cuts. Rices, teas, olives, etc. are excellent. The aisles are narrow, which makes social distancing problematic. There's a separate shop with bakery and take-out foods -- all of which are very good. Look for bargains on olive oil, juices and teas. Parking is great. read more

Have been coming since I was a little kid. I want to give it a higher rating because I'm somewhat attached to it, but there is still lots of room for improvement. NPP is great because it offers a bunch of middle Eastern, Mediterranean, Indian, and some East Asian, Eastern/Western European and Mexican ingredients/products. If you are a serious foodie or adventurous chef, you could get lost in the aisles looking at all of the products, a majority of it imported. There are a lot of things you can't find anywhere else at a better price, which is great. However, as larger ethnic groceries have been popping up over the last decade, NPP falls flat for me. This is mainly because of the produce and the cleanliness. The store smells...not exactly musty, but just a smorgasbord of different, very strong smells. The produce leaves a lot to be desired- there are flies buzzing around, smashed or rotting fruits that haven't been cleared away, and some of the more delicate products, say, grapes, may not be in a container, which leads to people picking through every bunch. While the prices for the produce are relatively affordable, I'd much rather go to Atlas, which was less than 2 miles away (now relocating unfortunately :( ), much cleaner, and offered better quality fruits and veggies. On the plus side, they have a really good bakery/restaurant, and I hear the deli counter is well loved. read more

As always a great place if it is Mediterranean and Middle eastern fare and ethnic food you relish. Also great for certain Indian and Asian foods, food products and vegetables. Talk about an International Supermarket where you can get everything from just about everywhere - North Park Produce is it. The place has a Middle Eastern restaurant portion and you hear lots of Arabic around, but the groceries are not restricted to that part of the world. I found extensive selections from Germany, Russia, Turkey, and many other places. One of the many great foods you can buy freshly prepared in their refrigerated section is Babba Ghanoush, similar to Hummus, but made with egg plants, something you can't find everywhere. Additionally, pick up fresh stuffed grapeleafs, tabbouleh, and many other dishes. They also have fresh meats, including selections of lamb. North Park Produce is worth a visit. read more

Not really a fan of this place but the only place locally that carries specialty ethnic food for some of my dishes. Unfortunately it's not very clean, produce doesn't look fresh and employees there aren't very friendly or helpful either. I try to avoid going there when I can and would rather drive 15-20 more minutes south to get what I need but this is convenient to me location wise so when I don't have the time I come here. NOT SAFE TO SHOP HERE DURING OMICRON SURGE. Usually, I like North Park Produce for the prices and international food (although you sometimes have to pick through the produce). Despite the state mandate for facemasks while indoors due to the highly contagious Omicron variant and increasing COVID-19 case counts, however, the past two times I've been there, I've seen 4-5 employees without facemasks each time. This lack of facemasks is also an OSHA violation. The employees not wearing facemasks are all of the ones working in the produce department--where they are out among the customers, loading produce into the displays (not behind plexiglass, like the cashiers)--and at least one manager. So, it's not safe for the other employees and the public, and I'm not shopping there again until after the Omicron surge has passed. I'll amend my review once things change. P.S. At least one cashier (a blond woman) wears a facemask with a valve, which also doesn't protect others. read more

After moving out of east county (which has a ton of international grocery stores), I've been on the hunt for something in the north county area. Poway is about a 20 minute drive from my place but I will definitely make the trek again because they had exactly what I needed, and more! I make tabbouleh every so often and it is so hard finding the right bulgur (cracked wheat) in the right thickness (fineness, rather) and this store had every single gauge of bulgur possible. Half an aisle dedicated to wheat, rice, and similar items. Perfection! They have an entire aisle dedicated to jams/jellies in so many different varieties, honey, all kinds of teas, canned goods. A great mix of middle eastern, persian, armenian, turkish and indian brands. A whole section of cheeses (different varieties of feta) -- had to step away. Dangerous :) A huge aisle of spices, too. I honestly didn't take a good luck at the produce and deli section, but they seemed decent from afar. We visit the North Park Produce - bakery/restaurant -- in Poway once a week for their Falafel Sandwich. It used to be the best in San Diego County. However, they changed the quality by now making it only on pita bread instead of middle eastern bread and made it small while increased the price from $6 to $10. They now put three falafel instead of five. So, the quality is gone down and price has gone up. Also, they are often out of spicy sauce that make the sandwich taste middle eastern. Of course no remorse is expressed when they can not provice the product, quality or service. We might just not go to this palce any more unless they bring back the original falfel sandwich on the middle eastern bread. It is good for other food perhaps. So, buyer be aware. read more

An international market with more focus on middle eastern products.. it's good if you want to try something new or looking for something specific for a recipe. For example we found here the Aleppo chilli powder, which we really have not seen anywhere. The fresh produce is also much cheaper here with lot of variety. The store however is not the cleanest and the bakery/grill section could also use some upgrades. Our food took longer than we expected to come out, when in fact it was a very simple order of a falafel sandwich and a zatar bread..the falafel sandwich was ok, but the zatar bread was superb , and the hot sauce that it came with , really really good...I will be back just for that read more

Whenever i'm in that neck of the woods, i make sure to swing by North Park Produce. Whether i'm there to get a quick bite to eat or load on cheap fruits and nuts (yes nuts). Walnuts there are $3.50 a pound vs other stores where it is around 10 bucks. I love international grocery stores, where you can find all kinds of gems, tons of honey varieties, European chocolates, pretty chocolate boxes for a gift, all types of bread, baked sweets, inexpensive fruits and veggies. When a fruit is in season, you will get a much better deal then say in Vons or Ralph's. Adjacent to the store there is a small eatery where you get get a excellent deal on grilled chicken or beef kebabs plates with rice and salad. The best kept secret is the meat section. You can get halal meat and everything is fresh. I bought 2 chicken breasts and these things were HUGE!! (Which Cooked to juicy perfection too!). If you are looking for spices and items from overseas, you have a great chance of finding it here. I lived in Saudi Arabia for 7 years as a kid and this store reminds me of stores there. And they carry familiar items from there like Vimto and candies from Europe! Great selection of nuts and rice! Much cheaper than your regular grocery store with better, fresher and bigger product! So glad I discovered this place, a real middle eastern grocery store and incredibly cheap prices. Four bunches of cilantro for a buck? Orange bell peppers for 59 cents a pound. Cans of Ful (fava beans) for 99 cents a can .. Egyptian Style too :-) Great selection of olives and feta cheese at the deli. Lots of produce, it really is an amazing selection of food packed into this store. I visited on a Saturday around noon and it was a shopping cart traffic jam inside. You're better off parking your cart somewhere then going solo to do your shopping. They even gave me a free case of water bottles at the end (I spent about 85 bucks). read more

I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet when I wrote one for the new Laloush market after going only one time. North Park is great. It's probably the biggest Middle Eastern market I've ever been in and has tons of choices for imported Arabic, Indian, Persian and even Mexican foods. They have cheap, cheap prices for produce and meats although I tend to stick to the cans, jars and spices when I go as I have a Henry's across the street. It's awesome for buying those hard to find items you need to make childhood favorites. The one downside? The space is a bit tight and this place can get really packed. However, the last time we went was early on a Sunday morning and it was empty. Score! read more
