I did luck out and got some incredible deals on battery cables - they probably had been on the shelf a little while. I needed quite a few for a project and saved some serious dough. I think the food prices are a little on the high side so the only food I buy there is the chicken. Their fried chicken is the best in town and is friggin delicious when fresh. I would recommend buying the lunch chicken early - 11ish and the same thing at supper time - buy early and you'll get really crispy pieces. Gas and diesel prices are on a par with the other stations. One thing I like is that unlike many other stores, LD Express gives free air. It's also HIGH PRESSURE so I can fill the big van tires fast. LD also has a car wash with automatic and manual bays. I prefer to use the manual wash. It works just fine and the cost is reasonable. It is well maintained. On the downside, the store has a utilitarian feel to it - cement floors, dusty, etc. The other convenience stores in the area are brighter, less dusty, and more visually appealing. But when it comes down to buying a screwdriver, a fishing license, and a burger all in one trip, LD has everything covered.

I may be misspelling the name, but an employee by the name of Sydnee was so kind to help and immediately handed over a product employees in the department use, free of charge, to see if it would work! The wipe took the paint right off, but I was just more impressed by how thoughtful and helpful Sydnee was to just hand over the product. While it was such a simple act, it really stood out to me and I just wanted to take a moment and share that Sydnee was great.

I brought it in and Ryan was supposed to do it because he was the "window guy". After two weeks, I went to go pick up the window because Ryan said it was ready, but not to come in until the following day so the glazing could set. I did as I was told and showed up the next day to find the glazing not even completely covering the area and Ryan off for the next five days. When I looked at the caulk replacement, some of it was only HALF of the strip needed. When I went to go pay, the cashier could tell I was not happy. She offered very politely to call the manager. Rich came down and asked if I would like Ryan to redo it because this is not normally his quality. I said, "Yes". I went back five days later and Ryan tried to blame me for his poor quality work. I told him, "No. Even Rich agreed with me that your quality was poor." Then when I went to go pay for it, they tried to charge me an additional $10! I said it was $55 last week. The cashier said, "oh sorry, sorry!" and brought the price back down instantly. The store is neat. The people are generally helpful when they're not trying to push something more expensive on you, but that's another story.

I live in Bettendorf, but am in Iowa City frequently as my wife and I have 3 daughters living there. Two daughters live very close to this hardware store and I was string-trimming at one of their houses, and I flung a rock into my car's driver side window and it shattered. I needed to drive the home on I80 but wanted some clear plastic on the window if possible. Emily gave me some used plastic from some inventory they had unloaded, and I bought some duct tape. As I went to the car I realized I would need scissors and told her I might be back if I can't get hold of the other daughter and her husband who live close. Daughter didn't answer so as I was about to call a different daughter and her husband Emily appeared and volunteered to help. She was very patient and had some great ideas like where we applied the tape to keep it off the paint. It was a loud ride home but I made it safely and Emily's great work held! This morning I got the window replaced and will not need to borrow or rent a car to drive to Chicago for a ballgame tomorrow. I probably could have made it home fine with no plastic, but it was nice to have, and I wasn't sure how long until I could get the window replaced nor how soon it was supposed to rain. I always say the world needs more kindness, and thank you to Emily for her great customer service from a business perspective, and for what I consider just simple kindness - another KO (Kindness Opportunity) fulfilled. Thanks again to Emily and Lenoch & Cilek Ace!
