Ten Thousand Villages is a fabulous retail spot to support. While the store has over a hundred locations in North America-- they do fair trade right. Every handmade purchase directly impacts the life and community of its maker in a developing country. I hopped on their site one day during quarantine to shop with my mom in mind. The site is so, SO easy to navigate. There's a Gift Finder tab that I found extremely helpful. I opted for the Recycled Sari Flowers. No two flowers are entirely alike due to them recycling fabric. They were made in Bangladesh. (My mom does NOT have a green thumb. I feel like fabric flowers will be welcomed.) On the site, you get to see a blurb about the maker of each item. It makes you feel good to see who you're supporting with your purchase. Shop Ten Thousand Villages for any gift giving you may have. Whether it is during social distancing on their site, or at their store in the ped-mall. It is a literal treasure trove.

Remember prices are marked at time of the store's appraisal of the item before being placed on the floor, so it's price may not reflect current market value trends. Just keep that in mind when shopping here. All in all the over all prices are usually fair or a steal if you know your stuff and have an eye for what you're looking for.

Some of the pieces can seem a bit pricey, but size plays a factor. If the piece is bigger, it will require more glaze, which does require more than a single coat due to the nature of the clay and how it soaks it in, and it they also probably cost more to begin with. So, with that, I think the prices are actually very reasonable for what you are getting! Also, there is a good variety in the pieces that you can select as well as a good variety of prices for every budget. My friends and I all give Renee's 5 stars and are constantly recommending it to others as a fun way to spend time with friends while also being able to bring home a memento to remember the day. :)

The rest of our experience was not so great and I would probably never go back. You are limited to only 6 colors, and this was NOT information given to us when we chose colors, so even though for one color I only needed literally the tiniest dot for, I still couldn't get any extra colors, and didn't find that out until after I had already begun painting. Someone with me had two pieces to paint and was still only allowed 6 colors. She was pretty snippy about it too. Also, the entire 2.5+ hours that we were there were spent listening to the owner remind everyone who was sitting and who came in the door that she closes at 4. We probably heard that reminder 20 times. One or two reminders as it gets closer to closing time is probably fair, but the amount we heard it was unprofessional and left a bad taste in our mouth. I'm happy enough with my piece, but some of the paint was streaky even after multiple coats and being fired, and after seeing some other pieces that were painted and fired there it seems to me to be a paint quality issue. I will paint ceramics again, just not here where my creativity is limited.
