I give it 3 1/2 stars. Artifacts has always been one of my GoTo places for fun when I lived in Iowa City. and when visiting Iowa City. It's lost a little of the magic with its expansion. True, I was delighted early on when I saw how they had cleaned up the place and that you could walk down the aisles without turning side-ways. But a great deal of the charm for me in a vintage 2nd hand store is its messiness and sense of discovery and finding a delightful oddity. In my last two perusals I felt I saw less impossible to pass up treasures, especially in the book section. The December 2023 Little Village has that horrible ad for Artifacts--Vintage Is Sexy--the naked man in the bathtub. There is nothing sexy about a poorly framed photo of a man cramped in a plain bathtub with an ugly vanity inches from his head. Heaven forbid you would find anything similar to the tub or the vanity in the actual store. What happened to the original Vintage is Sexy photo using a full length picture? It was clever, funny, and eye-catching--a great spoof of Rock Hudson lying naked in a tub from the Doris Day movie PILLOW TALK. Please dig around your old drawers and bring the original back. This is a unique vintage store that has undergone a recent expansion. It is well worth the visit. I found the prices reasonable and the staff okay.

Wowza. What a fun store filled with interesting things and certainly many treasures. You can spend an hour perusing the store filled with curated antiques. From furniture, to knick knacks and everything in between, if you are looking for a one of a kind, go here. Staff are super nice and welcoming too.

stuff I bought + the shirt.

Went here this week, my gf and I found and bought a lot of cool stuff. What I like about Artifacts is that they had sick vintage clothes. The employees were always very nice. 10/10 recommend. Ill be back next year:)

Well, this Iowa City gem will also give you good luck when it comes to finding gifts for friends, loved ones or yourself. It has so many locally made trinkets and treasures. There is new and old clothing. There is jewelry, accessories, mugs, candles, bath salts, cocktail infusion kits, art, cards, stickers, ornaments, coffee and more! It has something for everyone. Don't just take my word for it. My seven year old daughter, Cora, says this is where 'she finds ALLLLL her mom's favorite gifts.' (And she's not wrong.) I popped on to online shop on Small Business Saturday. I was in luck! 20% off the entire store. Score! I went and loaded my cart with Wake Up Iowa Coffee for my husband and a coworker. (If you haven't had this locally made brew-- do yourself a favor and get a bag.) I also snagged a Practical Magic Apothecary 'Holiday Cocktail' kit. I can't wait to serve it up this holiday season -- how does a mule with hibiscus, blood orange, cinnamon, cardamom and festive spices sound?! I would describe Revival as a Vintage Boutique that buys and resells thrifted and new items + home goods (candles, room sprays, incense) It's been about five years since my return and oh how things have changed! I'll start with the positive first: they now sell sex toys and lube (Maude brand) which is super cool. The candles they sell are so unique and well crafted. What a creative idea to use old fish tins for the base! The not so good: in summary everything's extremely overpriced. Revival use to be more of a thrift store (and yes they still buy and resell thrifted items) but now a large selection of their items are new and well over $100. Mind you this is not a luxury store. Now, I will say Revival has always carried new items and more "high quality pieces" however, today I saw a "preloved" coach bag for $300+ which was insane to me. The selection of clothing is more neutral and basic tones like cream, nude, brown and white. I miss the color and variety that use to be! Today I purchased some groovy sunglasses, vintage Levi Jeans, and some other new goodies. I still love this place and will check it out again the next time I'm in town!

While the pricing and quality of items being sold is still great, the new owner is very unprofessional and makes the experience of shopping at this store unenjoyable. I understand purchasing and running a new business can be stressful, but there is no excuse to be rude to customers. Upon entering the store, I was barked at by the owner to "shut the door" without a "please", "thank you", or even a "good morning". As I shopped, I felt as if I was in the way and upon checkout, I felt the same. There were no smiles or pleasantries exchanged. It is interesting because I notice the new owner is trying to make her presence on social media known, and talks about supporting those who need help and raising money for various charities. Anita, please work on your people skills and having genuine care for others that is actually demonstrated in your business practices. Perhaps watching an episode of "Daniel Tiger" on kindness could go far for you. Unfortunately, I will be rethinking shopping here not due to the quality of items, but due to poor ownership.

Most of the clothes I brought in were not accepted because the tag manufacture date showed they were made 2-3 years ago, despite them being in excellent condition & classic styles from quality brands. Overall the store has a very "mature" feel, to put it politely, and whoever is curating the inventory determined to be good enough to sell seems to be very out of touch with styles desirable for anyone younger than 60 years old. Perhaps the most memorable part of this store however is how badly it reeks of the Jimmy Johns sub store next store to it. I can't imagine what the clothes smell like once you get them home! I will not be returning & would not recommend consigning or shopping here.
