My husband had left…read morehis hiking boots at home, and since our trip involved a lot of hiking...we were sort of screwed. To make matters worse? He wears a size 16. Not exactly the easiest size to find in a pinch. Tonquin didn't have size 16 either-- but the super, super helpful guy working there understood our dilemma, and gave us a recommendation of where we COULD find a size 16, in exactly the type/brand of shoe we were looking for. He saved us from driving around all day to every Famous Footwear trying to find something that might work. So. Although I didn't end up buying anything at Tonquin, I was really impressed (and grateful!) by their "can't-get-it-at-Macy's-get-it-at-Gimbels" attitude, which saved our vacation. If I go back (and I loved the area...I'm already planning my next trip), I'd totally patronize Tonquin with my outdoorsy needs!

At first, because the store is so big, it can be a wee bit overwhelming; but once you get the lay of the land it's easy to navigate and find what you're looking for. Plus, if you do any questions or wonderings, the staff have always been eager and willing to help. Being a clearance store, you don't always know what you're going to find and they don't always have everything that you might particularly want, but that's part of the fun and excitement about going there ... you never know what you're gonna find!! There is a large selection of men's, women's, and kid's items and you can't beat the prices - marked considerably lower than actual retail prices.
