It was difficult holding all of my items, and I accidentally dropped my monster energy drink on the ground. This was as I was walking up to the register. The lady (I should have gotten her name) was super sweet and practically demanded that I go back to the cooler and get a fresh can. She waited for me, and the store was busy. I am back in school taking Medical Assisting classes right now. Currently I am researching a diversity assignment. It had me going back through older chapters on patient care. One of the things the book pointed out, was how limited we are as professionals, to extend empathy. Now, I understand how we shouldn't accept gifts, or give them to patients. What I want to point out is that many of the professionals teaching me right now, are so afraid to show empathy. There's a difference between someone who is mechanically going through the motion of extending empathy. Also, there are people who understand how to extend empathy while remaining genuine, without throwing your own self under the bus with a patient. That's what makes great customer service in any setting. It was so simple, but it was the genuine nature of the customer service representative which made me want to cry for no reason. I hope she goes on to doing more with her incredible talent. Cheers to being professional, but not losing your sense of humanity. Thanks Walgreen's!! You're doing it right!
