Great teacher but, unfortunately, after being asked to purchase a package from the school, I got halfway through the lesson and he received an emergency call and that was the last I saw or heard from him. Be careful with Norman ; he is a piece of crap. He is the type of person to talk a good one and act like he is going to get things done and then not go through with it . I started taking lessons with him last year and up to now I was still dealing with him because he failed to comply to all of the lessons as agreed, I literally had to blow his phone up for him to come give me lessons. I was done with my lessons and he never scheduled me or talk to me about the road test when I asked about it he said i will have to wait long & asked me to pay an additional 150 to expedite the date because he was going on vacation. The day before my road test he was supposed to give me a lesson and teach me how to park because he never did during my 10 lessons. That day he didn't teach me how to park at all he had me waiting In front of his office for 45 minutes while he "closed a deal" with a new client . So instead he ended up sending me video via what's app showing me how to park . Short enough I failed both of my road tests he told me for an additional 50 dollars he will schedule me for one more road test . He has canceled on me 3 times already , I was supposed to be scheduled for tomorrow and now he is not answering my calls and he's reading my messages on what's app and not answering back . My experience was not a good one here and I was definitely unsatisfied. Before the pandemic, I was suppose to take my driving test and did not because of this school honestly. I started out with a great instructor, Stephon. I asked for him again numerous time and he kept telling me he was "fired"or "rearranging his staff" which was a lie. I think he just doesn't like to pay his staff. Then he kept rescheduling with me. I am in grad school but I have a consistent schedule, even on the days I was available to take lesson he was still rescheduling which is why it took me more that 6 moths just to get 10 lessons. I mentioned to him that I wanted to buy a car and he tried to convince me to get it from him and he couldn't even his word with his lessons. when we were in the car he gave NO INSTRUCTION. It was like I was just driving him around and he kept talking on the phone. on my last lesson he spent most of the time talking to some lady about getting her nails done. when my 8th lesson came around (after being reschedule constantly) he signed me up for the road test knowing I wasn't ready and tried to tell me I was. My boyfriend sat in the car with me and was scared for his life while I was driving and when he tried to help Norman didn't want the feedback he was giving. When I mentioned getting my money back for the last lesson he told me that he wouldn't refund me. So I didn't go to my road test and I didn't get my last lesson refunded because of his incompetence. I highly suggest if you're looking to get into the driving school you get lessons from different instructors other than Norman so you can shape and mold the way you want to execute the test eventually. He is probalby the best thing at "Normans Driving School" and he has much better car then Norman's beat up car. If it wasn't for Stephon I would have stopped taking lessons right away. Stephon is always on time and respects you as a student. The 5 hour class schedule is also messy. It's sometimes at 6PM on Friday or sometimes at Saturday at 9AM. It's not always given so you have to really call and ask for the schedule to attend it. HOT MESS. You have to call to be put on the schedule because it books fast or better yet I think they have more students then they can handle. They will also forget to "put you on" so you are there thinking you have a class scheduled to find out you don't. Because they book fast you might be stuck without a lesson for 2+ weeks. I was seeking for affordable driving lessons and Norman beats the rest! Best economical deals hands down. I went to take my 5 hour and never saw a video. I sat through 4 hours of a lecture that was sprinkled with self promotion and self grander. He gave examples and questions to the most far fetched scenarios. That part was tolerable. Why I'm writing this 1 star and it should be 0 is because I from the beginning said I want all my driving lessons preferably back to back instead of spaced out due to limited time. They agreed and I paid for 1/2 of the package. I however was able to find a school that had availability back to back so I wanted to get my refund. This man was blabbering off about how everyplace is the same and how he can hook me up tomorrow with a class. However his tone and words weren't of a customer service who is happily ready to help and understand he was making it sound as if he was tired of me and all I wanted was my money back. I called him and he told me how I was being rude during the 5 hour and that I have to wait a week for my refund. I told him I wouldn't be able to wait went in person and spoke to his daughter who gave me attitude and told my boyfriend to shut up. If you want to learn to drive and pass your test the first time, Norman is the driving school to go to. I brought my 17-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son to Norman because of his passing rate for first-time new drivers is super high. His demeanor is excellent, he is safe and amusing. We can from Manhattan to take lessons from Norman. It's really easy to take the train. I came to Norman by trying all of the NY schools first. What I got from the NYC schools, was arrogant, totally booked, non-commital to the same instructor and filled 5-hour classes. Who needed the Manhattan attitude from a diving school which is what made me look for something better which I found in The Bronx with Normal. From my first experience with Norman's Driving School, I knew that it was worth the trip. Today my daughter was scheduled to take the road test. When we got to Norman, she forgot some of her paperwork. It was nearly impossible to get back to Manhattan and then back to New Rochelle in 45 minutes. I had a bit of a meltdown through which Norman was totally calm. He got the examiner to see my daughter after her appointment, kept me calm and even talked me through alternate directions to get there with less traffic. MY DAUGHTER PASSED, as did Norman's previous student. My son is a year younger and already on his 3rd lesson with Norman. He will be the next success story. DO NOT COME HERE! I unfortunately made the decision of purchasing the 10 lesson package (which included the 5 hour class) for $340. While discussing the package on the phone with Norman, he agreed that he would pick me up and drop me off at the train station for each and every session, as I was commuting from Manhattan, and that he would conduct each lesson. The 5 hour class was to be held on Friday, and I texted him confirming that he would pick me up at the train station - to which he said he would. When I texted him that I was 2 stops away from our agreed upon train station, he didn't bother to reply or let me know that he wouldn't make it. Instead, one of his associates called and said he had an emergency and that I would have to get to the class on my own . I understand, emergencies happen that fall out of our hands, but the way that it was handled was unacceptable. I asked his associate if he could instead pick me up, as it was a 35 minute walk from the train station in 20 degree weather, and the associate responded no and proceeded to attempt to guilt trip me for asking for a refund. I responded that multiple other Yelp reviews have indicated that Norman will make a last-minute emergency to bail from having to provide the services he agreed upon. After mentioning this, I asked again for my refund to which the associate said he'd pick me up from the train station (he only offered because I demanded my refund). I declined his request, and again, asked simply for my refund to which he said Norman would contact me the following day. The following day, I called and texted Norman and his associate, and received no reply. I continued calling for the next 2 days, and again, no reply. These guys aren't picking up my phone call or responding to my texts ever since I asked for a refund. THESE GUYS ARE EXTREMELY UNETHICAL AND ARE SCAMMERS, I WOULD HIGHLY ADVISE EVERYONE TO STAY AWAY. I found Norman through his ad on Yelp a few years ago. I already had my license but hadn't driven a car since my road test (which was like 4-5 years prior). I signed up with Norman so that I could become one with the road( honestly it was because no one would let me drive their car until I took lessons again ). Here's the deal, Norman is a nice guy and I believe he does care about his drivers it just might not radiate off of him. He made me comfortable with driving again, even on the highway. I did feel he was a bit pushy when it came to getting referrals for clients but closed mouths don't get fed so I can respect the mans hustle. Is his customer service top notch? No. Does he overbook himself and sometimes have to make adjustments that can be annoying to the customer? Yes. I am a first time driver who was extremely nervous prior to my first lesson and there wasn't any point in time where he made me feel like I should be nervous or insecure about driving. He works with you and if you listen to his instructions, you'll be sure to pass. A part of learning is being a good listener. His goal is for you to pass your driving test so if you do everything he taught you, you'll be sure to pass. He's a real humble and courteous guy who means well. My parents purchased driving lessons for my sibling and I from Norman, when I initially started classes there were no issues with scheduling. However, a few lessons later when I would call for appointments but they would schedule than really far apart even though I explained that I needed them close together because I was only around for the holiday. I was not able to get all my lessons and called to schedule new lessons for the next holiday. Norman tried to dispute the amount of lessons I had left and said he fired the other instructor who gave me a few lessons. He did not have documentation of the lessons I took but refused to believe me. When I asked about taking the remaining lessons he basically refused to schedule them unless I paid for more. The last straw was when I called to ask if he was still gonna make it to my lesson....which was a few days b4 my road test. He had a family emergency n told me he couldn't make it n that if I failed my road test, he would give me free lessons to prepare me for the next one. IF I COULD GIVE NORMAN ZERO STARS I WOULD! This is the most horribly run business I've ever experienced.. I want to smack myself 10 million times for not reading the reviews before I decide to purchase the 10 lesson package for my daughter.. first of all he was really quick to return my call to seal the deal for the package and collect his fee.. but when I call to schedule an appointment, he always tells me to call back in an hour, call back tomorrow etc. by that time you've already forgotten to call and schedule a lesson. Then I schedule 2 lessons in one week, he was supposed to pick up my daughter at an agreed location. My daughter was waiting for him and he never showed.. I contacted Norman and he claimed that he called my daughter to confirm and she said she didn't have an appointment. He then he calls me back and stated that there was a confusion with another girl with the same last name as my daughter. Therefore my daughter did not get her lesson after waiting almost an hour for him to pick her up.. After looking for weeks and months for a good and affordable driving school. I was also looking for a flexible schedule that worked with my time and for someone that was going to be a good teacher. I chose Norman's driving school from a review I saw on yelp and I am so happy I called and signed up for a package. Norman is very patient, he works with you and he teaches you all the basics of driving. I failed my first driving test, but right away he told me not to give up and rescheduled me for the next available date. I am happy to say I passed and got my driver's license on April 25th. He truly cares and wants you to pass. I couldn't be happier with the results. After hearing about the reviews from Norman's school I decided to make the decision to try again and use his school. I'm so glad I did. Norman and his team are incredible. The girls in the office are so sweet! Norman is so patient and makes sure you get it. His teaching skill are superb showing you different ways and really breaking things down so you just get it. And Kimberly is the sweetest girl and so helpful. On the day of my road test his team made sure I was calm and confident and I passed my road test on the first try. Something most people don't do. The worst driving school is an absolute understatement, this "company", "school" however you refer to it is a complete scam. You sign up for classes and they give you one or two and the rest will be cancelled and never a day before as they ask of their students; no, it is either an hour or 25 mins before. . I paid for 5 classes and only took 2 ( 1 was missed of my own volition) but the two that I did have were sub par at best. In both of my classes the instructor was late the first by 5 mins and the second by 30 neither called before hand and both openly took calls in the car with me. You would think you are running a business you would want your students to feel like they are getting an actual lesson but no, I felt like I was driving myself with a passenger sitting next to me. I could have gotten better instructions from a blind man. I literally had NO driving experience prior to signing up with Norman. I work two hours away from home and was in desperate need to get my license ASAP at an affordable price with flexible hours since I was only available late evenings and weekends. Norman took the time to make sure I was getting all my lessons on time to be able to get my license in less than 1 month, and he did just that. I purchased a 10 lesson package and that included everything at a reasonable price. I live not too far from other driving schools, but he was the only one willing to work around my schedule which was what I needed. He is extremely patient and will teach you what you need and focus on your weaknesses throughout each lesson. You will not leave disappointed. Updated review after I took my road test. 5 hour class: very interactive and make sure you get the information. Would recommend! I took 10 lessons from Norman and was able to go from never driven before to pass my road test on the first attempt!! Don't think i would have done this without Norman. He is a super relaxed and helpful instructor. You get your hands on the wheel the minute your lessons start and he will give you instructions but also let you learn from your own mistakes. I always thought that parallel parking is super difficult but Norman made is seem like a breeze and even my road test examiner was impressed by how nice my parking was :) Scheduling is very easy and flexible, but do expect some cancellations and changes as Norman is trying to accommodate everyone. He also tends to run late so just FYI. Also, compared to bigger driving schools, you get him as your instructor for the whole time so it is really nice to have uniformed instructors as to how to drive. I can definitely sense the difference when Norman is training other instructors and have them direct me- sometimes get me confused because everyone has their own style of driving and might be different from what you have learned in the past.
