Turkey
Eli L.

This is by far the best Turkey I have ever had in my life. I have always hated turkey but my God this was so beautifully cooked , seasoned absolutely amazing. I am so in love with this turkey!!!! If you aren't catering a turkey from here for thanksgiving you do not know what you are missing. Best Turkey ever, juicy, and literally falls off the bone for how tender it is!!!! And excuse the presentation it was a long bumpy drive.

Iced Cafe Latte with Whipped Cream (: & A Fresca Chicken Salad , everything was delicious

This was my first time trying out the Normandie Bakery Cafe. And it was delicious , I ordered an Iced Latte with Whipped Cream and a Fresca Chicken Salad with Avocado. ( Btw i added the celery sticks at home xD ) And i ordered a Lasagna for my great-aunt and she loved it! Service was great , the cashier / server lady was very attentive and kind. Everything was yummy! Food was fresh and delicious! - They have a great selection of pastries & cakes & other baked goods. As well as Jams and Fruit Preserves , & Imported Italian Candy , & many other snacks & goodies. :D - I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Chef : Josette LeBlond , She's really sweet and nice! (: - Place is cute and decorated pretty. Love the vibe. Hidden gem :3 ( well sorta hidden but ykwim ) Friendly Service & Staff , Clean establishment, and more importantly Good Food. (: Prices are moderate & imo the food speaks for itself. (: - I Definitely recommend this place. I was pleased in the service , visual presentation , quality , and taste. I'd rate The Normandie Bakery Cafe a Solid 4.7 / 5 Stars (: Keep up the good work! You definitely gained a new customer today! haha :3

Chocolate Croissant

So after trying the chocolate mousse birthday cake and my verdict is as follows: the outer layer of chocolate was delicious and tasted of high quality chocolate. The cake itself was a bit dry and the 'chocolate mousse' layer had a bit of a rubbery texture.

LOVE this place! And I love Josette, who never ages. Such a spunky, bouncy person. The BEST croissants and baguettes this side of Paris. Josette old me that she sells up to (more than??) 2,000 baguettes a day, because she furnishes so many restaurants. I noticed the neighbors also drop by for bread or pastry. Hot coffee in the morning on the front counter. Josette bought this place in 1989 and the bakery/restaurant has been bustling ever since, keeping Angelenos on the westside full of delectible French goodies. This year, she is catering one of the Oscar parties in Hollywood. She has been awarded for excellent business practices by the French Consul General of Los Angeles at a banquet held in her honor. Go for a casual breakfast. Most (all?) of the tables are outside, along a covered front patio. HAVE A CROISSANT. Did I mention that? That they are the BEST CROISSANTS THIS SIDE OF PARIS?? Ok, then... The omelets are also superb. Or go for lunch. Delicious specials that change daily. And have a croissant... Almost forgot to mention the delectible pastries, which are displayed in a case in the small front space. (Behind is a humongous kitchen where the magic happens.) I bought some pear tarts for my Swiss neighbor, and she said they tasted just like her mother used to make. Sometimes you get lucky and get there just when the croissants are coming out of the oven. Incomparable. Ham and cheese croissants, chocolate croissants, cakes, pies, and gourmet French cheeses. You just gotta get here. Parking sucks but you can figure it out. If it's a slow day (rare) you can park right in front. Josette, I love you!!! xox Stay who you are and continue to delight us with your treats for years to come!

Chef Josette is the best!!

This place saved my daughters 17th birthday! I was down to the last couple days and didn't know where to celebrate my daughters 17th. I drove by and saw a sign that said have your next party with us, so I popped in! I spoke with the owner-a French chef named Josette, who was so good to me! She helped me plan a brunch for 20 guest and made my daughters request of a strawberries & cream cake! Side note: The ham & cheese quiche was DIVINE!! Thank you Chef Josette for making our celebration so special and all for a much more reasonable price! Xoxo

Normandie Cafe @ Toast Cafe ?? #scam
Jay B.

This woman is a scam and trying to pull a fast one on the patrons of Toast Bakery on W Third Street, She took Toast over from the previous owner BUT KEPT THE TOAST NAME (I'm assuming because it's a 18 year old iconic LA cafe and she wanted to benefit from the name recognition)... yea, nice try!! She has completely gutted the Toast menu which now has extremely poor quality food and 1/5 of the selection. Any remaining items are completely different and taste disgusting. She has also plastered her face all over the restaurant, including a cardboard cutout of herself (talk about an ego!). Here's some advice- if you're taking over a well known establishment and making such DRASTIC changes to every aspect of the place, CHANGE THE NAME!! Toast now is giving off scam vibes and this woman is clearly spearheading the whole thing. The food tastes like crap and I'm sure the food here does as well.

I have experienced the best service and most welcoming customer service in a long time. Josette and her staff were pretty amazing. I'm always returning for their well sculpted Croquembouche which is a cream puff tower of fresh goodness which is unique and great for any special occasion. It's definitely a hidden gem and is also worth checking out for lunch and dessert.

Onion Soup
Afi P.

A friend recommended this place to get a good pastry. Otherwise, I would have never found it. It's not in a very conspicuous place. I ordered a French onion soup and bread pudding. I ate the bread pudding in my car. I only meant to take a quick bite but I couldn't stop myself. The French onion soup was just luscious. One of the best!!

They said tres leches this came was dry and had a geltine like white pudding in the middle very awful

I'd meant to come to this bistro since it opened (10 years ago! Whoa!!) but vacations to California were short and packed. Now that I've moved back, I got to take my husband for a little lunch date. We sat outside since the weather was exceptional, sunny with a cool breeze. I ordered the steak frites, pear gin and tonic, and my husband had the mussels mariniere with gin and tonic with passion fruit and grapefruit. I can't wait to order the Big Mec next time. For dessert, we shared the Paris breste. It was perfectly sweet and nutty. It was worth the wait and little journey up the 5 from OC. Five stars!

The onion soup was definitely the highlight -- rich, comforting, and one of those warm, satisfying dishes you don't come across that often. The beef tartare was decent, but nothing particularly memorable. The omelette was a bit too cheesy for my taste, though that might just come down to personal preference. Banana tart is so good. Try this. The outdoor seating had a great brunch vibe and was really enjoyable, while the indoor space felt a bit small and tight. Service was also very good -- attentive and friendly throughout. Overall, a solid spot with a great atmosphere and some standout dishes.

For appetizers, we ordered the octopus and escargot. The octopus was easily the highlight of the night. The flavor, sauce, and texture were all amazing, and the roasted herb potatoes paired perfectly with the salsa verde and chimichurri. I would highly recommend this dish. The escargot was also very flavorful, especially if you enjoy garlic. The bread it comes with is a great touch since you can dip it into the sauce or pour the garlic butter over it. For entrées, we ordered the Atlantic salmon and the rack of lamb. The salmon tasted very fresh, but unfortunately lacked flavor. The rack of lamb -- which is considered their signature dish -- was tender, juicy, and worth trying at least once, but honestly the appetizers stood out more than the entrées for me. We also got two cocktails: the Pomegranate Margarita and the Casanova. Both were good and definitely on the sweeter side, so I'd recommend them if you enjoy sweeter drinks. Overall, I would come back mainly for the appetizers and cocktails.

The broth ,white wine, celery, and onions, had a unique, delicious flavor, and the fries were perfect for dipping in mayo and ketchup. I ordered the duck prosciutto and two-cheese plate. The imported French butter was incredibly creamy and decadent. While the cheeses were high-quality and beautifully served with mustard, cornichons, and chutney, I did feel the portion was a bit small for the price. However, the flavors were so rich that I still left feeling full. We did have a small mishap where a waiter accidentally spilled water on Bart as we were leaving. They were incredibly apologetic and even sent out a complimentary macaron, which was a sweet gesture. Don't miss the French market next door--it's packed with imported cheeses, olives, and pastries. This high-end hipster restaurant is tucked down a graffiti-covered alleyway downtown, on one of the blocks that somehow doesn't have that many homeless people. The entrance is unassuming and plain, which I guess is cool now? Are we over flashy? I don't know. Walking inside, you feel... nothing. The employees are all dressed in white. The restaurant is all white. It's a little bland. Near the entrance are four white upholstered chairs where you wait while your table is prepared. These chairs have seen better days. The white fabric looks like wet dogs have been sleeping and wrestling on them for years. Dirty, stained, gray. I'll stand, thanks. The prix fixe menu includes a French baguette, French butter, a summer salad, and your steak frites: a hanger steak with tarragon parsley sauce. The highlight of the meal was the bread. Soft center, crispy crust, and the butter was topped with flaky rock salt. Simple and delicious. The salad was light and bright, and by that point I was excited for the steak. I always order my steak medium. Is that right? Is that wrong? I don't know. Blood freaks me out, so I like just a little pink. The steak arrived and the presentation was a 10/10. The fries were great. Hard to mess those up. The parsley tarragon sauce was interesting at first. A flavor profile I don't think I've had before. The first bite was solid. But then came the problem: the hanger steak was tough and blood red. I had to chew it so much that I was completely over the parsley tarragon sauce before I was even halfway through the meal. The sauce also became overpowering and salty fast. The restaurant is dark, which I'm convinced is intentional so you don't notice the "medium" steak you ordered is actually rare because they have a Michelin star and apparently they know better than you. The service was fine, and my server was delightful. The restaurant clearly knows that, because they automatically add a 20% gratuity to the bill. And even with the gratuity already included, the receipt still has suggested tip amounts printed on it just in case you're looking to hit that magical 40% tip threshold. All in all, it was fine. If I had been served this exact steak frites while sitting in first class on a Delta Air Lines flight from LAX to JFK, 10/10. But driving an hour through Los Angeles traffic and Gotham City conditions to be greeted by dirty furniture and an okay steak? 6/10.
