Many people pitch tents or sit on big towels and at least when we were there the dogs and humans seemed friendly. The waves aren't too big and the water wasn't too cold. Our dog doesn't dive in or swim, he might skim the edge of a wave as the wave crashes the beach and starts to recede.

The park itself is beautifully maintained with a large wrap around walking path, tennis and basketball courts, a kids jungle gym and the small & large dog areas. They're also putting the finishing touches on some new pickleball courts. From the dog areas, you can sit on one of the benches and feel the coastal breeze while enjoying views of Morro Bay rock. The dog areas also have grass, which is uncommon for this area but a total treat! We visited on a Sunday and it wasn't too packed at all, which was really nice. My husband and I and our fur babies absolutely LOVE this place. 5++ stars!

Ironically, despite all the open spaces in our area, dog parks are hard to come by, so this one sure helps out locals who want a safe place for dogs to run around a bit. It is kind of off the beaten tourist path, but on the other hand is right off Route #1....so it is ideal for locals who need it. Cayucos consists of a beach community with houses right next to one another, so there is not much room to roam. You would think that dogs could roam along the main drag or on the lovely beach, but that is not a great idea for all kinds of reasons. As in our beach community of Pismo Beach, leash laws are enforced with a passion, and rightly so....since there have been all kinds of incidents with unpredictable pets. Of course, it goes without saying that dogs [& humans] can misbehave even in a dog park, so please do not bring dogs that do not get along with others. As far as the rest of Norma Rose Park is concerned, there is really not much too it beyond some open grass & basic bathrooms. If one is looking more for a stop over for a park with a playground or more, then one has to be on the ocean side of Cayucos, where there are at least three parks.

I unloaded by dog who is friendly and doesn't bark and went on leash up to the chain length fence . Her dog and all four of the other dogs came up barking up to meet my dog and my dog was just standing there well behaved meeting the Aussie and poodle the dogs were all barking at my dog. This lady who came on the scooter said your dog is encouraging all the barking ( my dog was just standing quietly) So she said to me YOUR DOG IS ENCOURAGING BARKING. ITS BEST YOU KEEP GOING. What a big B----. Her dog and the other 4 dogs were very unruly and were the aggressors. My dog has gone to obedience training and has passed canine good citizen . Apparently rude aggressive people have rude aggressive dogs. Don't come her on Tuesday mornings you and your dog will be asked to leave, Keep an eye out lady on scooter and blue Honda element car with trunk up . Nasty rude B ----es and rude dogs.

Locals call the park, Pirate Park, due to the child's pirate ship play structure and nautical theme. The park is two acres advertised as having a children's play area, picnic tables with BBQs, green lawns, public parking lot (2), fish washing station, boater side dock with pump out for waste and access to fresh water, public restroom with showers, walking path towards the waterfront shops, boat launch, and stairs accessing the mud flats. The boat launch parking lot is not free anymore. Effective March 2026, ya gotta pay. Pay varies based on lot size. You can pay daily or get an annual pass. But it's free to launch your boat if that's any consolation. If you're looking for a place to launch your personal crafts (small skiffs, kayaks); this is the place. There are two parking lots. One on each side of the park. The lot furthest south has the boat launch and the lot has spaces large enough for trailers. Plus I gotta comment on the children's play area. It's not a typical park like playground, there are no swings or play equipment. They do have a sand filled area with a mini pirate ship and cute nautical themed concrete statues (octopus, seals, whale tail). What can go wrong with rambunctious kiddos and concrete climbable statues?!

Apart of the Central Coast Dog Park Alliance, this is one of nine semi-private dog parks that request a daily $1 fee or $30 annual fee. You can pay online or in person and of course, it's on the honor system. So don't be a jerk. When we arrived on a Sunday afternoon the park was lively. A few labs and golden-mixes in the big dog section and three or four smaller pups in the small dog section. We appreciate the double gated entrance to prevent any escapes and all the signage reminding folks on the rules. While we keep potty bags on hand, we noticed the several maintained stations that offered these freely. It's clear this park is well taken care of by it's patrons and volunteers. Everyone there was pleasant, kind, and very in tune with their dogs. We appreciated the level of care and consideration everyone had with their dogs and their interactions. It made a slightly nervous mom a lot more relaxed. There was plenty of shade, trees to sniff, and toys and water bowls. Basically everything you could possibly need! While we were only there for about 10 minutes we will certainly be returning. It's also very nearby to the 46-West if you're on a wine adventure with your pup and need to give them a good break.

It is all thinner pieces of bark, which is pretty standard for this area. Let's talk about the location. It is absolutely perfect. It's just a few minutes from the coast so it's super breezy and refreshing, and the weather is great every time we visit. It's also located a minute away from lots of cute shops and restaurants in Cambria! Always enjoy taking my dogs here!!

The owner said it had never happened before that he is aggressive in bark only. While I was getting in my car to drive away I heard her say "oh she's not even going to walk her dog" ummm no lady I'm going home where I have a yard and no risk of random attack. My dog is very social and was at doggy daycare daily when we lived in city, so wanted to try it out. My dog was okay just a little shaken up but these public places run the risk of irresponsible dog owners and aggressive pets that maybe aren't accepted at daycare programs.

We usually go into the small dog park since all of my dogs are from 18-32 lbs and they always have an absolute blast. One of my dogs love to play catch, and the small dog park has a ton of room for her to run around. The dog park is fully bark so there is not any grass, but that's pretty normal and my pups don't seem to mind one bit. Highly recommend this dog park for your pups!

It had a playground, restrooms, big green lawn areas, parking lot, and walking paths to the wetland and beach access. I was quite impressed with the green lawns. A lot of room to run amok. And the Morro Rock impressively stands in the background. Gorgeous! Can never get tired of that view. Another thing to note is that the park has no trees. This was done on purpose. The omission of trees was done per guidance from the Coastal Comminssion to protect the wetlands. Being from the Central Valley, the weather is much hotter and a park without trees is unimaginable. But the lack of trees at Cloisters Park didn't make my visit less enjoyable.
