Dr. Kay helps you feel at ease and is happy to answer any and all questions one might have at any point of the exams. He explains what each assessment does and how it helps him determine the best course of action to improve one's vision. He seems to really like to get to know his patients and is always handy with a quip to keep it light and help patients feel comfortable. Three weeks ago, I had a full eye examination with Dr. Wise, an ophthalmologist (MD) in Florida. Since I have worn glasses since high school, all I needed at this visit was a new prescription after losing my glasses. Last year, I also had a full exam at LensCrafters in Aventura, where the front desk clearly explained all costs and insurance coverage before my appointment. That visit was handled transparently and professionally. At MyEyeDr, however, the front desk did not explain what my insurance would or would not cover. During my appointment, a technician took retinal images without informing me that this would result in a $44 charge. I should have been told in advance and given the choice to decline. In addition, I was charged $140 for a contact lens fitting that was never discussed with me beforehand. The optometrist attempted multifocal lenses, which did not work for me. I was the one who had to suggest the lens setup I normally use (one lens for distance), and only then did he agree it would work. This left me feeling the fitting was unnecessary and not worth the fee. At checkout, I was presented with a bill of $640 that included these undisclosed charges. I was not prepared for such an amount and chose not to proceed with the purchase. The interaction with the sales associate afterward was uncomfortable and unprofessional. Because I was not informed of these additional services or fees beforehand, I am requesting a refund of the $44 retinal image fee and the $140 contact lens fitting fee. I believe this is a fair resolution given the lack of transparency and communication at my appointment. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I confirmed on the phone of the address of store, she said yes. Went today to store that I confirmed they don't have it. It's at the other store. When I was there the first time at the store a guy was complaining he could not see after picking up his glasses. Well it happened to be that the associate from the store put the lenses backwards. That should have been the only sign HOW BAD THESE STORES ARE. I warn everyone to avoid these stores if you don't want a headache. I found Retina Macula Specialists when I Googled my grandmother's diagnosis. I immediately knew this is where we had to go after reading their description of the diagnosis. The office is easy to get and parking is free (pro tip: park on the top floor as the office is right through those doors). The front desk staff are cordial and efficient. No time was wasted. The first time there was a bit of a wait, about 15 - 20 minutes, but it's understandable as the appointment was made at the last minute. The second time we were let into the exam room almost immediately. The assistant was great and very thoughtful. He let me follow grandma to every test room he took her to. We met with Dr. Gonzalez who explained things thoroughly and gave us options as to what next steps to take. He also let us know what he suggested so we left it in his hands. My grandmother is so happy we found a bilingual ophthalmologist who is great at what he does and also has an excellent bedside manner. I would definitely recommend Retina Macula Specialist to anyone needing a retina, macula and vitreous disease specialist.

If there's any chance you do zone out, often there's recorded reminders to interrupt your fugue dream state back to the reality of watching the paint dry and the earth slowly turn to dust while you wait to be connected to a human who often has the same communication style as Charlie Brown's teachers. That's only if you haven't first been disconnected by the system and forced to endure the ordeal all over again from the beginning. All this I can deal with. But today's call waiting at Macula Specialists of Miami entered the third circle of hell. They thought it was appropriate to play "In the Hall of the Mountain King," one of the most stress inducing classical works ever written, from beginning to end, only to hang up on me when after it concluded, just as I was about to smash my head into a wall to make the madness stop. So I called back trying to make an appointment, and it played again. And after once again nearly losing all grips on my sanity from a misophonia induced anxiety attack, I was hung up on again. I called 4 times in total surpassing the definition of insanity and finally understanding the true definition of masochism. Of all the classical music created throughout past centuries, this torturous ode to madness is what they chose? I have since given up and have resided myself to just dying as it'll be less painful than making an appointment at this doctor's office. Ok fine. I'm being a little dramatic. I'm not dying. It's just an eye specialist and I'm gonna be fine. I'm just grateful this wasn't a psychiatrist's or a cardiologist's office! I'm sure the doctor's are lovely. But at this point I've given up on ever making contact with them. Maybe a carrier pigeon would be better suited for communicating. Or Cerberus.
