I recently spent about $600 at Nordstrom Rack in Thousand Oaks purchasing clothes for my son. Unfortunately, some of the items--specifically a pair of shorts and pants--did not fit him properly, as they bunched awkwardly in the middle. When I returned to the store to process a return, the experience was disappointing. The associate inspected the pants, smelled them, and stated they had been washed, then refused the return. This was both uncomfortable and frustrating, especially since the items were simply tried on for fit at home and not worn. I understand that stores have policies in place, but the handling of this situation felt unnecessarily dismissive. A more professional and customer-focused approach would have gone a long way. Most customers won't take the time to leave a review--they'll simply choose not to return. With so many convenient online options available, in-store experiences need to justify the trip. I rarely shop. Went here today with my son who is home from college because he needs new street sneakers. He looked through all the size 12s before finally selecting a pair of Adidas. He liked them a lot. So we get to the cashier after waiting in a long line and there is no price tag. So the cashier calls for help on her earpiece. And we wait... for 7-8 minutes. Finally, she tells us that the shoes "should have been taken out of stock". I asked what she meant. She said that the shoes had been in inventory too long and should have been removed from the shoe selection. You would think they would be thrilled someone wanted to buy them, right? Wrong. She had to get a colleague to tell us "that it would be illegal for us to sell these to you". Illegal? Really? Wow. They rejected my offer for $50, repeating that we'd be breaking the law. My son and I were incredulous. We left the store, thankfully as Free Men, you know, and not in jail. read more

Roya I believe is the evening manager , is very rude to the associates. At approximately 6:18 pm today I went in and checked out she was at a register she snatched the receipt out of an associates hands and rolled her eyes at her. Usually love this store and shop here often, as well as Nordstrom. Brought my son with me to get some comfy walking shoes for an upcoming trip to England. Found two pairs, one a bit big but we thought with insoles might be fine. The shoes were in a box that were actually for some ladies high heels. Purchased them without that box as well as the other shoes and a jacket. He tried them with the insoles, but heel was still slipping so returned to the store the next day for a refund. When I gave them to the cashier (with a paper receipt and email receipt), she gave me a suspicious look and asked if they were worn. I couldn't help but feel insulted. She could see I purchased them only a day ago and I explained why there was no box. There was a tag inside each shoe. She pointed out a scuff mark on the side of one shoe which I had noticed when I was shopping but purchased the shoes anyway. I realize people purchase, wear and return but that's not me and it felt so weird and icky to have her ask that. Usually customer service is great at both Nordstrom and Rack, but this felt horrible. Honestly, I'm second guessing if I want to purchase there again. I did notice all the cashiers looked exhausted and not terribly happy. Maybe this store is experiencing a staff shortage and everyone is showing it. There weren't any of the usual pleasant smiles and eye contact one usually gets at Nordstrom stores. I made a quick stop today during my lunch break to grab a gift for a Secret Santa exchange that's going to take place this Sunday (before you readers think I'm a procrastinator, because well, I still am). I was looking for a cute top but I gravitated towards the wallets and came across this beautiful beige Tory Burch wallet for a steal. Surprisingly, a smaller one of the same brand (yellow color) cost under $80 after the sale but this one cost under $70, and I had the Nordstrom Note so it was definitely a steal and I know the recipient will like it. If not, I'm keeping it. Did I mention it's for my mom? Anywho, I didn't have much time to shop for anything else but I came across some gorgeous Ted Baker sweaters on sale that I'm definitely coming back for. I need someone to hold me back if I head towards the shoe section. One thing I noticed that's different than other Rack locations is the fact that their check-out and return section is one combined line, and it's relatively smaller than other stores. It moved quickly though so I can't complain. The place was generally clean but there were some disorganized parts, probably thanks to the last-minute Christmas shopping. Horrible return policy, I tried to return a pair of shoes never worn with tags AND receipt but they refused to even give a store credit! Pretty good location as far as Nordstrom Racks go. You can find some really nice brands here (Joie, Joe's Jeans, Tory Burch and Paige to name a few) I've had some really great finds in their designer shoe section. I got my favorite Stewart Weitzman black suede pumps here. It's a little hit or miss but everything is well organized so you can quickly browse and see if there is anything worth trying on. There is always enough to parking....however once you get inside the lines are usually crazy long, even on weekdays. Some of the workers walk around the store and will check people out using an iPhone. Try to hunt one of these people down!! read more

I stopped in here to look for a ladies suit-jacket for a meeting tomorrow and though their selection was small I found something that fit me and looked good. I tried on some other cloths as well and found the different brands ran their sizes quite differently so even if you think you know your size in a t-shirt or tank top for example, try it on before you buy it. Anyway, the staff was all very friendly and polite and I REALLY appreciated how the man at the register called me "Miss" even though I'm over 35. Made me really happy to shop here. The store is good sized, well lit and very attractively laid out. Prices are fair considering you are buying from Nordstrom. Location is fine now that the initial rush of the grand opening is over (I tried to come here on Day 1 but the parking lot was a zoo and I left without even finding a spot). I feel like you're better off shopping online, than coming to this location. They don't have a great selection and it's very hit or miss if you're able to find one thing, let alone a handful of things if you're really trying to shop hard. There is a larger location in the valley that has way more things so I would much rather drive a little farther for the better selection. However, that store in the valley is like a zoo with things strewn all about. This store it has better organization and cleanliness just not well stocked. I have never had a problem trying to return something here, but the lines can be pretty long at times. Overall, not a store I usually go to. They are improving and expanding on their home section which makes the home area resemble HomeGoods just a little bit. Clothing wise it's a total miss with low and poor quality inventory. read more

sometimes the finds in stores like these (T.J.Maxx/Burlington/Marshalls ect) discount designer stores can make all the effort worth all the money in gold. You can leave (as I have many times) feeling like you genuinely dug up an actual treasure and need to get out of the store ASAP before they figure out what you've found. I love this Nordstrom Rack. I am glad that one finally opened up in this area, because the only other one that I know of is in Topanga. This location is very organized, so it makes products much easier to find. The employees have always been friendly and willing to assist me when I need help. Also, parking here is great. There is a big lot right outside of this location. This Nordstrom Rack sits on the quiet side of Janss Marketplace so I find the lot to rarely be full. Overall, I have had great experiences here, so I know that I will definitely be coming back. read more

Nordstrom rack should not call themself a discount store. I called the online customer service to see if they would price match with their sister store Nordstrom and they will not. The item on the Rack site was full price and Nordstrom was selling the item 50% off. This makes no sense. My advice is not to shop here. I love this Nordstrom Rack! I live in the valley and that store is hard to navigate, parking is sparse and the lines are super long. The Thousand Oaks store is spacious, organized and parking is never a problem. I used to work at the Oxnard store so I know what the expectations are. Although the Thousand Oaks store seems smaller to me, it's clean and there's actually space to browse though the racks. I docked off a star because they seem to carry less than other stores. I had stopped by a few nights ago, looking for a purse for my mother-in-law and they didn't have a huge selection. I ended up at the Woodland Hills store where I scored a deal on a Marc Jacobs purse. read more

This is just about the only brick and mortar store where I am able to find shoes that fit. I wear a size 5 or 5.5 and my feet are very narrow. Needless to say, it is very challenging to find shoes that fit well even in my size range. This location has a large selection of smaller sizes all the way down to size 4, it is much appreciated! DSW is next door but their selection of small sizes in store is almost nonexistent. I am disappointed by the small selection and not very fashionable choices in their petite section. However, in the regular section they have had a good selection of pants in small sizes that do include shorter lengths. It is spotty especially if you are limited price wise, but options can be found if you hit it right. I used to only shop at Target and JC Penny, but since I now have a more appropriate weight for my small frame, I find it hard to find sizes in those stores. I also discovered that when shopping at stores that seem like they are cheaper, you may find it is not always the case. Finding sale items and purchasing higher quality clothes can save money, when you get years out of a piece of clothing instead of 4 months. Being able to choose clothes when they are a good price, here and there during the year and different styles is very liberating! So much better than the once a year trip to Target or JCPenneys to buy 2 pairs of jeans and 5 of the same tee shirt in different colors, year after year. Oh Freedom! The employees are friendly and check out is usually fast. There is a very large fitting room downstairs, but the mirrors could be better, add angles or more of them to check out the derrière fit situation! I am not one to write a review but felt compelled to write one because of the absolutely disrespectful manager at this location. I had an issue with a return which wasn't a problem at all. I politely asked him questions and also answered the questions he had for me. While I asked questions for clarification, he cut me off on multiple occasions. The store was not busy in the slightest but he was very irritated and hurried me away. He also did not clarify or answer any of my questions nor did he try to. When asking questions, he talked to me with a condescending tone as if implying that I could not understand him. I have never had a terrible experience at Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack until now. I came in 10 minutes before closing to return an item and they had the doors locked. As I was walking to my car, they let a group of customers in the door. I am pretty disappointed in the service (or lack of service) I just received from one of my favorite places to shop. This is a fairly newer store, about 7 months old or so. It's always very clean with very friendly staff. And always ample amount of parking! One member had finally convinced me to open a Nordys card, and then I found out I was given the wrong information about the card benefits by the employee. I called cooperate and had to clear things up that way. This was a really annoying hassle, but eventually got cleared up. I loved Gloria, the alterations lady! She was always so sweet and so accommodating to your needs and time. Unfortunately, Nordys Rack has decided to get rid of the alterations department altogether because not enough people used it and there's a Nordys across the street. Now if I want something hemmed, it'll take 3 times as long, and I need to go out of the store and across the way. And now poor Gloria is out of a job :( It's always a hit or miss on finding great deals, but the best is the Clear the Rack events, which it seems they're starting to hold them more often. While this store is very clean and organized, it has such a small selection of everything! Especially dresses and gowns; there are only a handful to choose from. Because of the selection they offer, I still prefer the Topanga location over this one. Maybe with time they'll start to expand their options and carry more of everything. read more

I am giving this review 5 stars not only because of the incredible selection and prices, but because of the exemplary customer service. If you have the chance to speak with any of the staff, in particular Zach Mays, then you will be leaving with a smile and a great outfit. Zach went out of his way to scour the entire store to find a suit that fit me appropriately and offered tips and suggestions on dozens of items. He was extremely knowledgeable and was adept at putting together a sharp and sophisticated outfit. This one certainly feels very TO-- kind of small and not the most exciting/unique items, but spacious and clean with easy parking and polite but hand-off service. As others have pointed out, the Woodland Hills and Oxnard stores seem to have bigger selections, but this one is okay, too, especially for things like dresses and business appropriate clothes. I will never come to this Nordstrom Rack location after yesterday's experience of a group of middle school hoodlums taking up the entire elevator when the escalators were broken. Security should be tighter in this store and management should have a tighter grip on things. These children decided to use the elevator ride to ridicule me and my boyfriend; laughing at us and saying inappropriate things. I didn't even experience things like that in middle school or high school!! I was told they're always coming into this store so I will avoid it as much as I can.
