I'm not by nature an individual who eats ramen frequently, but, it was a rainy Friday night and I thought it would hit the spot. Walking in I was greeted right away and pointed in the direction of the menu board. It was awesome too because they were playing old school X-Men cartoons along with Dragon Ball Z on the televisions! I ordered Fried Pork Dumplings as an appetizer and the Miso Ramen Bowl as my main. The dumplings were plated so beautifully I hardly wanted to eat them. They were cooked perfectly, golden brown, packed with shiitake mushrooms and a delicious piece of pork. The temperature on the inside was perfect so I was able to bite in right away. Next was the ramen and although I am not a ramen connoisseur I will say that each individual ingredient in this bowl was more than just well thought out. The combining flavors were so delicious it left me wanting to try every ramen bowl on the menu. I will definitely be back. Can confidently say the ramen was pretty average. For me, I'm not a big fan of pork so I asked what chicken broths do they have and our waiter told us they only had pork broth. Limited my options greatly but I didn't mind it too much. I decided to get the Spicy Kimchi Hakata Ramen bowel. Both the noodles and spice were tasty. That's about all. This place is absolutely an Asian twist place. The menu was pretty creative in terms of options. The highlight was definitely their ramens. My most favorite was the Hakata ramen. Very clever on the ingredients especially the pulled pork rather than using the typical Chashu pork. The pulled pork tasted good and so tender but a bit too sweet for me. Just me personally no no sweet flavor in any Ramens. The broth though was the best. It provides a good balance, not too salty not too sweet. Felt great eating it especially in the winter time. The egg was cooked fantastically. Highly recommended. The Miso ramen was yummy but not as good as the Hakata. Ordered some apps and noticed the topping sauce looked the same. Sweet black soy sauce. We loved the silky tofu. The dumplings were great too. Loved how they marinated the inside. However, the sauce was a bit overpowered the taste of the food. Service - friendly and casual. I have been to noodle tree on two occasions and the first time, I was actually surprised at how good everything was. The ajitama egg was cooked perfectly and the broth was delicious and flavorful and the noodles weren't too chewy or soggy. However, on my second visit, the ramen just wasn't the same. The noodles were overcooked, the broth was extremely salty and the pork was also extremely salted. Another thing that I found that was odd is that they do not offer free tap water. They only have water bottles you can buy for $1 but it is unlimited. The inconsistency of the ramen definitely deters me from coming back but I will give this place another try because it may have just been a bad day. read more

Coworker and I came here after work on a Thursday. Food was excellent. Only two people working the location, but our hostess/waitress Jules made sure we were attended to. We stumbled upon Noodle Tree as it is close by to our apartment and we are always down to try something new. We were tickled by Naruto playing on one tv and Dragon Ball Z on the other. The ambiance is warm and welcoming and fits the theme. Enticed by their simple and straightforward menu, we decided to give it a go. We ordered the vegetable dumplings and got them pan fried (though there was the option of getting them fried or steamed too) and thought they were delicious. They came garnished with microgreens and guava slivers. We also ordered the vegetarian hakata ramen, and found that it was enough to split between two people. I've eaten here three times, and they're 3 for 3 in terms of excellence. Every time I go to San Antonio I try to swing by. Now, they're in the news because of a CNN interview with the owner. In the interview, he seemed cautious and reasonable and clear-thinking. So, of course, some people don't like that approach. Because that's the way the United States is now. I visited this establishment a few days ago and I really enjoyed the food. The customer service was good but the waitress seemed to be handling a lot on her own so it almost seemed like rush service. I will say she was polite and did not mind answering any questions I had about the menu and was still willing to help despite her being busy. I had the Taipei Chicken Curry Ramen and it was delicious. The broth has full of flavor and had the perfect amount of seasoning. I would like to say I love spicy but the spice level I selected was a bit too much for me. The spice levels here are still full of flavor though so nothing to worry about if you like your food packed with a punch- or how they say "how much do you like to sweat?". The crispness of the karage (Japanese Fried Chicken) was perfect and not soggy from being in the Ramen. Overall, I had a good experience and I would visit again to try other Ramen dishes. read more

A Chinese dish that made it to Japan Ramen lived a life as a cheap street food that used the throw away cuts, fortunately it didn't stay there. From the top levels of French cooking to Japan, the saucier it arguably the most talented person in any kitchen. At the heart of their arsenal is their artisanal intelligence and frugal soul. They take skins from onions and garlic, caps of peppers, ends of leaks, beats, or whatever else didn't make into a main and pull out the essence of that flavor. The Ramen Chef of today is the progeny of the saucier, if that saucier was Albert Einstein. The Chef at Noodle Tree is nothing short of this description. When you read, "burnt garlic" you stomach reflexively turns, until you taste the symphony it truly is. As a person that travels, eats, and more important, cooks better than most places I've eaten at I will say, there is a new standard for Ramen and that is Noodle Tree! Noodle tree is super up to date with COVID precautions. Their employees all have masks and they have see through walls to close off each table. The food is good with a good selection of ramen and dumpings. They have fast service but I wish they can have a greater drink menu and not serve them in styrofoam to-go cups. read more

The restaurant is kind of attached to a residential apartment complex, so I had difficulty locating it. If you're driving on The Drag, you'll see it from that side of the street. I ordered the miso ramen and pork bao. I asked for a cup of water, but the soda/water machine was down--the owner advised against drinking tap water because of all the sediment in it. Instead, he kindly gave me a water bottle for free!! Very nice of him! The pork bao came out first. Wow this was delicious! 5/5 for this. I was very happy with the taste and portion. I would even go as far as to say just order 3 of these and call it a meal! The miso ramen came out 5 min later. There was a good amount of food in the meal, with abundant noodles and other garnishes. Other yelp posts show a full egg in their ramen but I only got half... Unfortunately, I finished it and was not blown away with the soup base and overall taste. 3/5 The service was wonderful. The cashier who placed my order was super chill and made sure that everything was good throughout the meal. Additionally, the owner/cook also came and checked in on me. I went here with a friend on a gloomy Sunday and we were bummed that one of our favorite ramen places were closed but we gave this place a try and it did not disappoint. We both ordered their Hakata ramen and for just $12, it's definitely affordable and this place has become my other go to spots for ramen in SA. The broth is not too heavy or salty and it just has the right amount of fat that you just want to slurp this tasty bowl of goodness. It just hits the spot when it's been cold lately. Anyhow, the noodles are chewy which I love love and was not soggy at all. The mushrooms I couldn't care for actually and they were sweet (I think it is there to help balance out the saltiness of the ramen but I don't think it's needed in my opinion). The other veggies and eggs was also tasty and provided a nice texture to the dish itself. The pulled pork was flavorful as well but i felt it was just this big chunk of meat that it was hard to break apart in my bowl and if only i could have broken it then I would have eaten it my way but anyhow I would still come here since it's much closer to me. read more
