The Japanese Tonkotsu Black Garlic ramen...

When you need your Pho fix and you're away from home... Yelp your around the area and look for good to great reviews... That's true because sometimes you have to read the fine print as to why someone might give a 3 vs a 4 or 5... Pho Barr is nothing on the outside, standard windows, small but inside there is some magic going on... The smell hits you as soon as you open the door... Umami, garlic, teriyaki, beef... Your mouth is watering for one or all of the ingredients... I went straight to the pho options and picked my favorite... Spicy Tonkatsu with Black Garlic... It had pieces of chashu (large) on the top with plenty of fresh veggies... The noodles tasted fresh with the perfect chew... The broth was delicious!!! Give them try for your next pho fix!!

One of the major Chinese gems of South Houston is Noodle Master, a super legitimate, authentic Chinese restaurant specializing in hand pulled noodles. Their Chinese name 麵匠, is akin to "noodle maker" and after a recent lovely experience, I can most certainly agree they're masters at their craft. On the surface, the place (sort of) looks the part: custom Chinese artwork / murals on the wall, a whole factory of workers in the back doing noodle pulling and dumpling making like it's DTF (#1) and all barking orders to each other in Mandarin, with Chinese holiday decor all up in the front counter. Yet the menu is completely in English (#2). The front of house doesn't speak ANY Chinese and if anyone is keeping track, this place is located in one of the least Asian areas of Houston (#3). Despite the cultural and language barriers, the staff mentioned to me that they "somehow make it work." Lack of local competition, along with not having to deal with English-only customers, means they get to do what they do best: making good food. I came here looking for XLB (#4) and was not disappointed. Houston is not blessed with a myriad of soup dumpling options and this is one of the better ones I've had. The skin isn't too thick and the soup filling is very porky. At $11 per order (of 8 total pieces), it's a bit pricey but worth it given the city's slim pickings. Each basket comes with soup ladles for drinking the soup once the dumplings are poked, but I think they would do well to offer mini-tongs. (#5) On a sad note, they don't offer other soup dumpling types, so this will have to do for now. Their claim to fame, aka Lanzhou style hand pulled noodles (蘭州手工拉麵) are excellent. They're hearty and don't skimp with the portions. Whether it's part of their noodle soups or sauteed, they're abundant, dense, and incredibly fresh. I really enjoyed their combination stir fried noodle, which had ample toppings and really good flavor. The beef noodle soup is also excellent and I'm confident enough to say these noodles are some of the best I've had in the Houston area. It's clear there are some items that were added to lure in the gringo palate, such as cheese wontons, general tso's chicken, and even their version of a beignet in the form of a chocolate bao. It's all surprisingly quite good. They even decided to offer Japanese style ramen (#6), and even something rando like takoyaki. It's not going to compare to the real thing, but someone convinced them this was a good idea. At the end of the day, I'm confused yet enamored with Noodle Master. They've gotten worthy press and a loyal fanbase that keeps on growing. While I still think they're finding their footing, I'm certain I'll be following along as one of their regulars from here on out. ___________ (#1) Din Tai Fung. Noted XLB specialists. (#2) Which is easiest if you order by the designated letter+#. They're not good with the names evidently. (#3) Pasadena, a stone's throw away from Deer Park. (#4) Xiao Long Bao, aka soup dumplings, aka 小籠包. (#5) This is especially helpful for folks not handy with the chopstick game. (#6) Ramen is the Japanese equivalent of what Chinese style hand pulled noodles are: "lamian"

    Mongolian Beef with Noodles

Had dinner with a friend Monday night at Noodle Master. I ordered Mongolian beef with noodles. It was well prepared and the portion was huge! The beef was a little tough... needed tenderizing. The sauce was yummy and sweet. I had them add some spice to the sauce which was a good move. The dish had lots of stir fried onions which were cooked perfectly. The homemade noodles had a good bite. Service was not the best, but fine. The lady was in such a hurry it was like I had to shout what I needed as she twirled past, lol! The place filled up as we ate. It was loud but clean and comfortable.

For the first time I'm going to give credit where it belongs. Food instagram "influencers" are really doing the lord's work. Like for real. I saw a reel of the food and funny enough I forwarded it to a friend. And her and her boyfriend went that night! The food looked so good! A week later my boyfriend and I decided to go check out the place. I didn't realize the place is in Pasadena!! Omg! We debated if it was even worth the drive since we were coming from Houston. My boyfriend kept complaining that it was "too far". I got a little annoyed, however he sucked it up and we made the drive. LMAO. When they say "hole in the wall" it kinda really is. It's in a strip in the Kroger parking lot. A place you would never thing to stop by. Cause it's next to other establishments you wouldn't think you really go to. The moment we stepped foot, it was PACKED. Here's what we ordered Takoyaki - I'm so shocked but this was so crispy, the octopus was so meaty, it was hot and fresh. It was so good that my bf ate my share. And that's a lot to say cause he mostly orders this cause I love takoyaki Black Garlic Spicy Ramen - the hand pulled noodles was quite amazing. It had the most amazing noodle slurp you could ever imagine. It was al dente but had the best chew to it. The broth was delicious! Garlic and umami. The meat was a thick slab of pork belly. Big chew in every bite. Soup Dumplings - there was a good amount of soup, so flavorful and tasty. The dumpling itself was so delicious, especially with the sauce. Scallion pancake - I feel like this needed a slight more oomph to it. Thought it was really flakey and crispy and a good amount of dough. Let's just say, this place was so good that my boyfriend ate more than his share of food. LMAO. If it wasn't so far, it would be a rotation in our dinners.

Cool Chinese spot for authentic Chinese dishes. The staff was friendly and the food had great portions! We ordered the pan fried pork dumplings along the the spicy popcorn chicken. There was so much food at a very affordable price. The owner was very nice and attentive even though he was very busy. Can't wait for the pearland location to have their grand opening. It would be a great new spot for Chinese food for that community. Has a very welcoming atmosphere, great food and service. Would recommend this place.

Unbelievable. The first time we went we loved it so much that we were sure the second time wasn't going to be nearly as good. It had to be a let down... It was not. Noodle Master tasted just as good the second AND the third time. Seriously. Go. Go now. Get the Ingenious Beef with noodles. I don't know if it's Ingenious... but it tastes amazing. I can tell you that. You're welcome. Oh - we also had spicy popcorn chicken and the spicy wonton soup. Get the hand pulled noodles every time instead of rice. I know rice is good. These noodles are better. You're welcome again.

For 2 ppl, we ordered the Pork and Shrimp Shu mai dumplings (not pictured), as well as the Dry Fried spicy popcorn chicken with hand pulled noodles. The chicken was very spicy and crunchy, and the dumplings were very flavorful as well. This was more than enough food for 2 of us, as the entree size was quite large. I would come back with a large party to be able to order more dishes as family style. Service and ambiance was great, the workers were very attentive. We will be returning to try more!

Chicken popcorn. Spicy, but not overly. Delicious

Ok so as I sit here watching my noodles being hand pulled... knowing how springy & chewy they are has my mouth watering. Enough waiting, enough procrastinating, if you've not eaten here. Go now. Like call in your order, & go get it. You will be asking yourself just like the rest of us... why didn't I try noodle master sooner!! They are amazing!

Decided to dine here last night after watching videos on instagram recommending me this place. They have 2 locations, Baytown and Pasadena, so i went to the one at Pasadena. Arrived at 7.30 and it was super packed. I ordered the fried noodle (beef) and spicy garlic tonkotsu ramen. My friend ordered deep fried pepper chicken with noodle side dish and house special beef noodle soup. Yup all that for 2 person. On to the review of the foods, the food was great and bomb!!! They handmade their noodles so it is always fresh, and i like the texture of the noodles, not too hard and not too soft. The fried noodles had nice seasonings in it and for the ramen i really liked the broth but i wish it was creamier. Portions was really huge!!! Big plate of fried noodles and big bowl ramen (big chunks of pork belly). I also tried my friends food, it was good too and i liked his beef noodle soup. Big portion too. Place was nice and energetic, definitely hectic and chaotic. Service was fast but one server was kinda rude to me, i dont want to get into details, food was good so i let that slide this time maybe they were just too busy. Price was definitely worth it for the food they gave you and big portions! My total came out to $25 and my friend $28. (Pro tip: CHECK IN ON YELP FOR $20 off) i took advantage of that btw. Notes to owner: please hire 1-2 more servers, you guys are definitely understaffed during peak hours, you guys only have 1 server in charge of online deliveries and cashier and 1 more in charge of all dine in operation. Overall, good chinese food establishment especially if you want to try handmade noodles. Me and my friend will be going back for sure to try other dishes. Recommended! First time visiting this restaurant. We felt like having Chinese food and the other yelp reviews were good, so we tried it. Overall, good food. Good portions. Service: Amazing ! Impeccable ! Other businesses need to follow their model. It's simple math. People will ce back simply for the service you recive. They were very attentive. Whenever I looked up and around they made eye contact to see if we needed anything. As we were leaving they all said goodbye. 100% Parking In a small shopping strip. No problem with parking. Hours: Sunday opened at 11 am Food: Fresh and good. Fish was fried a little to hard for my liking. Everything else was good. Seating Spacious. No problems. To go Couldn't finish the food. They provided carry out items.

Finally! Soup dumplings that I don't have to travel an hour for! (And they're quite good too!) Noodle Master has been on my radar since they opened the doors, and it's mainly because they offer Xiao Long Bao -- soup dumplings. My first soup dumpling experience was at Joe's Shanghai in NYC, and there aren't many joints that even come close to it. But Noodle Master is the closest I've found in my four-year search. The soup dumplings here are a slight bit thicker than most I've had, which makes them easier to get onto the spoon without puncturing and spilling all of the wonderful pork broth. For those who've not experienced soup dumplings, just know that the soup is actually *inside* the dumpling, along with some ground pork. It's a wonderful experience! And delicious. We also ordered chicken fried rice, fried noodles (beef), and I ordered a calamari salad. First, the calamari salad is smoky and sweet. The calamari is an interesting consistency ... almost like it was overcooked but in a fun, toothsome way. Chicken fried rice -- some of the best ever. Nary a pool of grease, and there's chicken in every bite. Fried noodles -- My goodness! Talk about toothsome! These noodles are firm, yet soft. (They're really long, so ask for the scissors.) The sauce is not overpowering. Veggies are crunchy. Outstanding! My endocrinologist is going to be disappointed in me for finding and patronizing this place, but that is exactly what I plan to do! **OF NOTE** - We had lunch here on Oct. 2, 2021 and my server told me that Noodle Master had stopped honoring the 20% Off Yelp check-in coupon the day prior. I asked her to double-check and such turned out to be true. That is certainly not a deal-breaker, because everything about this place is great.

Read the reviews and saw the suggestions so we decided to try this place. Very happy with our lunch. Unassuming strip mall location but inside was clean and open. Staff was welcoming and attentive. Quickly taking our order we did have a little but not excessive wait for our food. We ordered 4 items and enjoyed all. House Special Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, Black Garlic Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, Pan Fried Dumplings, & Veggie Bao. Noodles were Excellent! All were very good and would order again but will explore new items on our next visit. Yes, we will be back. Removed 1 star to give room for improvement: please offer hot chili oil that is more spicy. Not sure if all sauces were supposed to taste the same but they all did. Not bad, just not spicy. Please offer a spoon that allows for drinking ramen broth if desired. Ladle was nice for mixing but not for eating.

I follow a couple of local foodie pages on social media and this place has been the talk of the town in the Southern part of Houston. The stars aligned and I finally found myself in Pasa-get down-dena with a buddy of mine and we both agreed it was time to check out Noodle Master. I went to high school down the street and took some classes at the nearby college so it was cool seeing some new food options in this part of town. They are located in a busy shopping center but away from most of the hustle and bustle. Walking in, we were immediately approached by their super friendly staff and told to sit wherever. Shortly after the place filled up quickly. I can tell this is a popular spot. Our waitress was very attentive and gave us great suggestions. Top notch service! My friend and I both got two items that stuck out to us and went family style on devouring the food. I started off with the Crispy Fried Cheese Wontons. These are basic but oh so tasty. For my entree I went with the Dry Fried Spicy Popcorn Chicken as it is one of my faves at most Szechuan type restaurants. This was the overwhelming favorite of the night. The lightly battered and fried, crispy chicken had the perfect amount of heat and was quite addicting. The dish came hand pulled noodles or rice. I was told I had to try the noodles because they were hand pulled and part of their namesake. I'm glad I did because those noodles were the truth. I could eat a whole plate of that with some chili oil. My friend got another basic dish of General's Tao Chicken which was very good too. Both of these dishes came in large portions and we had a whole meal to take home and enjoy later. We also tried the Barbecued Pork Baos which was delicious. The weather made me order the way I did, but I will definitely be back to try some of their soups and soup dumplings. I've had a hard time finding anything close to what I have had at Din Tai Fung, but am willing to compare the next time the opportunity arises. I can't wait to come back!
