We have been regular customers of this restaurant for years, but the catering for my daughter's high school graduation party was a massive disappointment. The owner, Felipe Espay, personally placed all the pizza boxes into the venue's warming oven himself, told me to leave it on for 'no longer than 10 minutes,' and explicitly instructed me to turn it off so they would just stay warm for the event. I set a timer and followed his instructions exactly. Despite this, the gluten-free pizza arrived severely burnt and inedible (see attached photos), leaving the guest of honor without her meal. The rest of the bulk pizza order was also heavily overcooked, featuring virtually no cheese and a rubbery, hard-to-chew crust. Because I was hosting a busy party, I only managed to photograph the burnt gluten-free pizza before realizing toward the end of the event that guests weren't eating what should have been high-quality, authentic Italian pizza. While the owner did eventually refund the gluten-free pizza, his follow-up emails defensively blamed me for overcooking the food in a deactivated oven. Sadly, after years of loyalty, we will not be returning due to this terrible quality control and refusal to take responsibility. read more

The restaurant has traditional Italian favorites such as lasagna, chicken alfredo, pizza, spaghetti, subs, and calzones. They do not have traditional table service. You place your order at the counter and if you are dining in, they will bring it to you. I ordered the Panzaratti Calzone, which came with a Caesar's salad. It took about 12 minutes for them to prepare my food and it was brought right out to my table. The salad came first and then the calzone. My meal was very good. Te salad was fresh and tasty and the the calzone was packed with delicious cheese, pepperoni, and sausage. It was very filling and really hit the spot. I highly recommend it. We recently went to Nonna's on a Friday afternoon, right when they opened. We were able to serve ourselves drinks and choose our own table. We tried several different pastas, all of them good! My wife (who is Italian and very picky) raved about their red sauce. She did mention that they needed more cheese in their lasagna though. The tiramisu, limoncello dessert, and cannoli we ordered were perfect. We were also shocked to see low carb offerings on the menu. We brought home a stuffed pizza for later and were wowed by it! Used to be such an amazing restaurant. They have changed so much. You are no longer waited on. You have to put your order in at a counter, like it's a fast food restaurant. You get your own drinks and refills. Thankfully they still bring your food to the table. Very minimal interaction with staff. The menu was scaled back quite a bit. This is a review based on a DD delivery when staying at a nearby hotel and it was winter cold outside. I say all that because this pizza is very thin yeast crust that not many recipes are not the best in this cold climate because it comes hard and chewy. I feel it might have been different if it was fresh from the oven, and will definitely note the ingredients were freshly chopped and flavorful. My husband had the Stromboli, and his only complaint was that this was actually a calzone with sauce on the side. In other places, the Stromboli is on Italian bread more like a sandwich. They did not ask us to return it. First time trying Nonna's and we LOVED it. It was a feeling of nostalgia for me and reminded me of a small town pizza place I had growing up. Dave Portnoy loves a nice, New York style slice. I, on the other hand, look for the most loaded pizza possible and this checked every box. Cooked to perfection, tasty and a quick dinner. Our family strongly recommended Nonnas So Italian restaurant for lunch to us, which sits next door to Thorton's gas station off 267 in Plainfield. Parking is convenient with a private parking lot, just steps from the entrance. As you're walking to the entrance, you can't help but notice the large enclosed patio area, which will be great this summer. As you enter the small but lovely lobby area, you turn to your right to place your order at the counter. The menu is located above the counter area, and your order is delivered to your table. We felt rushed placing our order with 8 of us and 3 parties waiting behind us. Several of us had never been here before and required a few additional minutes to check out the menu. Seating is plentiful, and it's seat-yourself with booths and tables in one large area of the restaurant and a smaller seating area close to the self-serve Pepsi drink fountain. Request the carafe of fresh water vs. the soda fountain water, which tastes like the drink (lemonade) next to. This was one of the requests that was brought more than 1/2 way through lunch, and all 8 of us ordered only water to drink. Italian sodas and several coffee drinks are another beverage option. Nonnas menu offers a nice selection of classic Italian appetizers with original and stuffed breadsticks, Bruschetta, calamari, mozzarella sticks, and cassava fritti (a root vegetable similar to a potato). The pizzas looked incredible, and we were told the pizzas are excellent and not to be missed. Their New York inspired, hand tossed pizzas with homemade sauce are available in 14" and 18" with BYO (Build Your Own), Specialty and Vegetarian options. A nice selection of calzones and subs are also available. The Entree size Chef or The Works salad we ordered was a generous serving of fresh, crisp greens, sliced ham, salami, provolone cheese, diced tomatoes, black olives, cucumbers and slices of red onion served with your choice of one of their homemade dressings. The salads were fresh and delicious, but we had problems with every salad arriving with ingredients requested to be left off, and each person informed our server. However, only one was corrected because she was insistent. The server didn't seem to care when we acknowledged something wrong or requested more butter, napkins, or even a missing fork. I ordered the spinach and potato soup. I was excited to try until it arrived and appeared to be split pea, but it wasn't. Instead, it was the consistency of baby food with the flavor of browned flour. It was horrible, and I couldn't eat, and based on the concern shown previously from our server, I just let it sit. She never questioned why I only had a couple of bites and left. Nonnas offers build your own pasta or order one of the specialty pastas such as one of the chicken or shrimp alfredo linguines, Quattro cheese ravioli stuffed with 4 cheeses, meat and alfredo sauce, Pasta Primavera, Chicken Parmesan or Beef Lasagna plus more. Our group ordered the highly recommended Chicken Alfredo Linguine, and the others ordered the BYO pasta. Each said their pasta was correct and good. Each order was served with just one excellent dinner roll, but it was impossible to receive additional butter timely. A basket of rolls would be appreciated or serve with an additional roll with entrees. Even though I wanted to order Tiramisu, we felt it was not in my best interest. They have multiple lunch options like spaghetti with meat sauce, Alfredo, cheese pizza which comes with a salad, a break stick and a drink. Overall value is great, but I wish they had add-on options like chicken, meat balls, sausage, or something. The service was quick and professional and I really liked the vibe there. We stopped someone and they told us we had to order at the front of the restaurant and she likened it to a Culver's or McAlister's... not something you necessarily want to hear at a local place that has higher prices than both of those locations. I went to the front to order and got a drink as well from the fountain and was given a number. They brought my salad first which was good and then my pasta not long after. If you're in the mood for some Midwestern Eye-talian food, you could do worse than Nonna's. I'd give Nonna's 3.5 stars, but since Yelp won't allow us the luxury of rating by halfsies, I'll round up to four stars. Because the decoration inside is really cute, and the staff is really nice, and those things elevate it just a bit. I got the three-cheese ravioli with Alfredo sauce, and it was really tasty. They garnish the dish with fresh parsley and shaved slices of parmesan cheese, which was a nice touch. It comes with a hunk of warm bread. Honestly, they could have given me a dish of alfredo sauce and that bread to sop it up and I would have been happy. You can't go wrong with cheese and carbs. My husband got the stromboli calzone, and he said it was fine but considering that they brought it out at the same time as my ravioli dish, they probably didn't make it fresh. He said it tasted like it might have been previously refrigerated or frozen. It was also a little too ... neat. And perfect. You know what I mean? A calzone needs to be greasy and saucy and sloppy, and this one was the opposite. The sauce even came on the side in a plastic container. He also got the tomato basil soup, which was good but was almost lukewarm. It came with crunchy croutons on top. They have a full espresso bar here, so you can get an espresso or Americano or whatever your little caffeinated, palpitating heart desires. I heard about Nonna's from a member of the church I go to. It's in Plainfield out on old 267 in an old Pizza Hut building. It definitely doesn't feel like a Pizza Hut when you enter. The ambiance inside is close that of a family Italian restaurant. I like Nonna's more than other big chain Italian places because it has home-like vibe. At Nonna's the service is great and you can customize your orders anyway you would like. The menu is pretty extensive for being such a small place. I was surprised that they have a type of stuffed pizza. Before the meal bread and homemade oil is brought to the table which is always a good thing. I have had the cheese ravioli and they even allowed me to have half marinara and have cheese sauce over the top. I definitely prefer the ravioli over the chicken Alfredo. The chicken was much too dry. They also have a restaurant in Brownsburg called So Italian that I would love to try out. read more

After a bit of shopping that carried late in the lunch hour, I decided I wanted to grab a meal before heading home. I had never stopped by Nonna's though I had driven by it numerous times. So, I pulled off the highway and took the frontage road (Cambridge Way) to this restaurant. There is a separate entrance for pulling into the parking area which allows you to drive around to the front on the west side. I noticed there is quite a bit of patio seating with a pergola covering the space. The double door entrance helps keep the climate controlled inside. I was greeted at the front desk and noticed the seating was arranged around the outside of a central room that was basically an underused coffee shop. That space is generally available for a party to reserve, but customers can choose to sit there when it is not in use. I was okay with being seated in the regular area which relied heavily upon natural lighting (it seemed a little darker than I expected inside.) The hostess also acted as my waitress and since it was just after 1 pm, I was the only customer, so I got prompt service. Even as other guests arrived, I was unaffected as my food was soon ready. I started with a house side salad and was pleased it came out while I waited on my entree. The salad was fairly large and came with the dressing on the side. Their side salad is mostly iceberg lettuce with red onion, black olives, tomato slices, and cheese. All the ingredients were fresh and their house made dressing was tasty too. Soon, my Stromboli arrived. Really well made, the outside was lightly crisped and dusted with a bit of garlic and other seasoning. It came with a small cup of dipping sauce that was a great addition. I will say that they loaded the stromboli from end to end with lots of gooey cheese (mozzarella and provolone). No bite was just dough, so I appreciated that. However, the other ingredients like the meats and veggies were a little scant, so some bites were only the bread and cheese. That's the only thing that kept this from being a five star review. I will say that my wife had been here before with a large group and she had commented to me that she was very disappointed. I think that is pretty common for large groups at most restaurants, so I was glad I gave this place a visit on my own. Completely different experience than my wife had. I took some of my food home and my wife tried it (actually finished it) and so I think I may have changed her mind about the restaurant too. Overall, the service was good and so was the food. That was the first no for me. What's the point of a nice Bar then? The chicken Alfredo pasta felt like a lean cuisine meal. Canned sauce, microwaved chicken. Just bad, bad quality. I was out in the Plainfield area for work and decided to stop at a local restaurant for lunch! The service was really fast and they have plenty of lunch specials to choose from. There's plenty of parking and I really enjoyed the salad and spaghetti with meat sauce. The restaurant has a very pretty patio with LED lights with outdoor seating available. First visit. Late lunch around 2pm. Help wanted sign on door and looks like 2 waitresses. Original breadsticks were a little too strong on seasoning but the Ryan's breadsticks were great. Ordered 14" stuffed pizza. Better for 3-4 people. 2 of us only ate half and bringing rest home for later. Overall taste of the pizza was great. Might suggest a little more seasoning for the crust. Older kid ordered shrimp linguini w/ Alfredo. She said it was really good. Big portion. Youngest ordered slice of pizza with apples. She said the crust was a little tough but she did enjoy folding it NY style. Loved the atmosphere and the music. Very relaxing. Waitresses were nice. I've been striking out with Italian places lately. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile since its so close to my house. Wasnt as impressed as I had hoped. First, let me list the positives. This restaurant is beautiful on the inside (see the pic of the bar). And my food was decent. Thats about it. Negative. What really was the big red "x" for me here was the service. It was honestly the worst I've had in a long time.. For COVID, they make you order up front. Then they give you a number and bring the food to your table when ready. After the young guy at the front told us the deal, we were looking at the menu. Literally not even 15 seconds later, he asked us if we were ready to order. Awkwardly, we both just kind of picked something pretty quick. They have sun king on draft, and my spouse asked what kind it was. He didn't know, said he'd go ask, and came back and still didn't know (not sure how that happens)... he then shoo'd us off to the lady next to him, because the phone rang and he had to answer it. So we asked her if she happened to know, which she did not either. My spouse just said "ill roll the dice and order it" ... I ordered a sangria.... she didn't know what that was. Come to find out, both of the people up there were not old enough to drink, meaning that they were most likely not servers. Why are people who don't know the bar or food menu taking orders? That was crazy to me. So we sit down, someone brings our salads out, then a bit later our food. Before we could say anything, she says, "ill bring you bread," comes back, and literally throws the bread on the table and keeps on walking. No butter, no oil, nothing. No one came by to check on us through the entire meal, which makes me question who we tipped when we ordered the meal at the beginning (there was an option at the end of the transaction, we always tip at least 20%). Thankfully, my meal was pretty okay, although it was more sauce than ravioli. My spouse ordered the chicken parm. It was just not good, to put it politely. This man is a garbage disposal and will eat anything. He took a few bites and didn't want anymore. We couldn't tell anyone about it, because no one came by. We even tried to flag down several employees, but got ignored by every single one. We saw when we were leaving that there was a huge sign saying "try our famous oil and bread" ....wish we could have. No one even said the typical "have a good night" on our way out. They were busy talking to each other. Sadly, we won't most likely won't be back. This is honestly a hidden gem for Plainfield Italian cuisine! We had a great meal and dining experience despite some of the reviews here. Price: The price point here is GREAT for the size of the portions. Three meals with alcohol was very reasonable for comparable restaurants in the Plainfield area. Location: This venue has been many different things in the past and can be missed if you're not looking for it. Located just next to Quaker Blvd (off 70) it's a great place to stop for any occasion. Venue: The inside of the venue has been renovated to meet the needs of a sit down Italian feel restaurant compared to the brewery that was here prior. The bathroom was clean and maintained very well, it specifically requests that the staff be notified Food Quality: Fresh ingredients. The bread is made on site and I would highly recommend the breadstick starters. The pasta was well prepared and the calzone did not disappoint! Overall: This establishment is hopefully here to stay. Don't go here. I went with a large group and none of us liked our meals. FOOD- The tour of Italy was huge and they don't tell you it should be split between 2-3. All of it went to waste because it was so bland (lasagna, alfredo, and ravioli). The margherita pizza was not good and had a weird ratio of ingredients? The calzones are 90% cheese and not in a good way. They are also weirdly crispy and flaky. The desserts are very strange and oddly flavorless. The only good thing was the breadsticks, but they came with a side of cold nacho cheese?? Instead of marinara?? Like what. ATMOSPHERE- I don't understand the layout. You go in and sit but then have to order at a counter. But there are also people who kind of wait on you?? It would be a little better if it was just a normal sit down restaurant. We sat outside, but the back door was broken so we couldn't go inside to order or refill our drinks unless someone let us in. STAFF- the roll of the staff was confusing. They would refill drinks or take things out of the way, but not always? They would do things and then never ask if we needed anything so I had to refill my own drink because I couldn't get their attention, which was difficult with the door to the patio being broken/ locked. This is during COVID-19 precautions, out food was take out only. 16" Stuffed Pizzerotti or single serving would have been sufficient. All foods tasted yummy. Nonna's would have received 5 stars, however I gave 4 due to all the bread was over baked and required extra chewing. The atmosphere felt very Italian during my brief encounter.
