Everything was pretty good! The sushi rolls were fresh and nicely presented and the bowls were colorful and flavorful. They have some specials throughout the week and also a few locations (the one I visited was in Fort York). Solid portions and a good overall experience.

The ultimate in the true and authentic izakaya experience! The Fort York location of Nome Izakaya lives up to the name that the restaurant has build in the local GTA food community since their first location! Whether it's the dine-in or patio experience, you will not be disappointed with the flavours of Tokyo with some east meets west influences for the items ranging from the fresh Tuna Brioche to the Shoyu Butter Steak that is also sous-vide! The Honey Bread Brick Toast is a fun dessert to enjoy for a great way to end off the izakaya experience! Can't wait to go back!

I hate trekking downtown on a weekend but after visiting nomeizakaya and trying their brunch on a patio, it makes the trip worth it. They recently revamped their brunch menu and included some unique items like Gyoza with truffle cream and omurice that stood out to me. The flavor of these two dishes were immaculate! The chicken bubble waffle was interesting - my first time to try both dishes as one on top of the other. The brunch menu is only available on weekends until 3:30pm. Seize the opportunity to enjoy these dishes on their patio and you won't regret it! The service was impeccable and very attentive.

This review is mostly for the bar in which I had a very positive experience while I waited for my take out order. After a long day of being a tourist, I ordered a tequila shot, lychee iced tea, and a sake bomb. Bartender was nice to provide water in between these drinks and was not judgemental. Waiter recommended I make the lychee iced tea sumo size which increases the alcohol content and not the volume of the drink. She must've known I needed a boost because it was a great recommendation. The takeout food turned out okay but the rest of my night turned out better after being at this bar. Would recommend stopping in for a drink or two!

Nomé never disappoints! Tried the Shoyu Butter Steak medium-rare off their Featured menu and it was cooked perfectly tender, - paired with the creamy mashed potatoes, it was a superb dish overall. I also had my usual, Double Salmon Roll, the best roll on the Nomé menu imo! So good. It was our friend's birthday and they brought around the Honey Bread with sparklers which was a nice gesture :)

I'm still dreaming about the Katsu sliders. And the lychee martinis. This place is a true magical gem. Great time for after work drinks or nice dinner date. Also they have a fun atmosphere for groups

I've now dined at all 3 Nome Izakaya locations. Here being their newest location is now my favorite. It's less crowded for now, which means faster service which is what we got. The staffs were so patient with us as we were a group of 7. We made reservations for a Thursday night for 7:30pm and the restaurant was only about 60% full. Love the old school R&B music playing in the background. Menu is by a QR code. Menu was extensive. We ordered a bunch of stuff and there was not one thing we didn't like. Taste is consistent with their other locations. Can't wait for their patio to open for summer.

i'm super stoked to finally make my way to nome's newest location downtown at the city place! not to my surprise - the food is consistently delicious! we ordered: 1. *a must-try!* tiger shrimp (lightly battered, fried & tossed in a creamy sweet chili mayo - served w.a slice of fresh lemon & shrimp cracker!) 5/5! 2. nomes fried chkn wings - so many sauces to choose from, we had honey garlic ots. there is something about their marinade & the light crispy batter on those wings! if youve never had em - then what are you waiting for!? dont need any gamenight for these babies! 5/5! 3. nagasaki soup - spicy assorted seafood soup. choice to add udon noodles. perfect portion to share for 2 (or 1 :d ). w.the cold season around the corner, a bowl of this will be sure to keep your belly warm & happy :) 5/5! 4 & 5. double salmon roll & tuna coin - not your basic sushi. the dsr pcs are huge & topptopped w.more salmon, drizzled in a secret goodness sauce & topped w.fried onion bits that gives it such a delicious crunch! the tc is a twist on the classic maki cut pcs. the pcs are cut & flipped on its side, then topped w.a nice chunk of mouth watering spicy tuna mix! 5/5 for both rolls. 6. takoyaki - little bite sized fried balls w.bits of octopus in them! gotta enjoy these while theyre hot & fresh ;) 5/5! 7. *also a must-try!* honeybread dessert - buttery & crispy pcs of bread, smothered in vanilla icecream, honey butter cream, fresh berries - and just order it, i promise you wont regret it! 5/5! service & staff are always so accommodating & friendly! emmy, sean & cammi made our visit (& our friends from sf visiting) beyond memorable ty team!

Japa Burgers is the best!!! The oysters also good, especially if you come on Tuesday and Wednesday, it is $1 each.

JAPA burgers and oysters are highly recommended. Especially if you come on Tuesday and Wednesday, the oyster will be $1 each.

I am definitely coming back on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for their $1 oysters! They have a variety of oysters to choose from but definitely first come first serve. We booked a reservation ahead of time to make sure we get there when they open! They served their oysters with a large selection of in house sauces, which was super unique! They did run out of some selections of oysters by our second round of oysters and we were the first customers of the day (on Wednesday). Not sure if they just haven't received their shipment yet or not. But the oysters they served were fresh though. There were only two people shucking though so the service was slow once two more tables were ordering. We also tried other dishes like their Nome's Fried Chicken. We really like the different sauces they offered. We got their wasabi sauce and it was super appetizing! The portions were a little small though We also got their Korean Beef Tartare. Their sauce was a little bit too sweet for us, but I like how it was served on deep fried seaweed rice crackers. We had to ask for some salt for the tartare to balance out the flavours. If you are by the lake area, this is a great after work options for a drink and light snacks !

The third location located in downtown Toronto. Hailing from its origin location in north york. They're known for the buck-a-shuck and ebi mayo. First of all I must say the service was excellent, the servers were on point and polite. My issue lies within the food. If you been to their north York or don mills location, when you order it in their downtown location the food doesn't taste the same. I think there needs to be improvement and consistency in the kitchen side. When we ordered the spicy mayo, for some reason it tasted like curry sauce. The burgers didn't taste the same either. With the improvements to food quality I think it's a beautiful location for couples and big groups. 3.5 for me

    More $1 oysters

Took my family of four here on a Tuesday night at 5pm. Overall, ambiance is super inviting. Glass windows, natural light, clean modern building. Food: we went more for happy hour so we got 36 oysters. $1 each. The deal is real, confirmed. We got the fried chicken with spicy mayo (sauce was delicious) and burger sliders. Nothing to rave about the food, but met expectations. Price point: expected except the oysters were a steal. $16 chicken and $20 sliders. Service: was good! Everyone checked in the right amount of time. Overall, would recommend to go! Esp for the oysters.

But if you want to see how the kitchen works and drool over dishes comes out, this is the perfect spot. The service was ok. We did the classic tasting menu with wine pairing and our wine pairings kept coming later and later, which was also disappointing. I also got their award winning cocktail, down by the bay. It was fantastic! But the food was great. As part of the classic tasting menu you get 6 savory dishes and a dessert (to share). They start you off with an amuse bouche of bread with tomato cream. I could eat a whole basket of those. The courses are broken up into 3 pairs, so for the first we got the chopped salad and spicy ceviche. These are two of their best dishes and I wouldn't miss getting them. For the next course we got the chickpea fritters and country style ribs. These dishes were ok. The chickpea fritter was good but the ribs were overcooked, dry, and didn't have the greatest flavor. It would've been more flavorful with a good glaze. I would skip these dishes next time. And for the third course we got the rasa burger and truffle gnudi. The burger was good, but it was just a burger. The gnudi would be something I get again. For the final course we got the sticky bun. These bun was a very dry at the bottom, but otherwise good. I might try the ice cream sandwich next time. Cause it looked amazing too. Overall, great experience and a place I'd come back to. I'm glad I did the tasting menu, but if you're coming with a larger group, just order the whole dishes a la carte.

Back to why I do this. I'm endlessly curious about food, people, and the magic that happens when great meals meet good music. Friendships just seem to evolve naturally around a table. And thank you, E, for another incredible photo -- your choices are always perfect. Mercado on St. Clair is a hidden gem. What was once beside my mom's flower shop downtown has now found a home in a slightly more industrial setting on Caledonia -- and somehow, it works perfectly. Cozy seating inside, a great covered patio outside, and that village-style European restaurant vibe you hope to stumble across. First off, the waiter was phenomenal. He walked us through the menu, explained everything perfectly, and genuinely elevated the whole experience. The menu is massive -- meat, seafood, everything you could want -- but we came for the paella. We were told it takes time because they make it the proper way. Not overly crispy, just authentic, rich, and layered with flavour. Worth every minute of the wait. To start, we had the gambas / shrimp in a rich red garlic and herb sauce plus extra toasted bread for dipping, per our waiter's recommendation. Absolute rockstar move. The other appetizer was a delicious beef stew served over crunchy rustic bread. Simple, hearty, and top notch. Now... drum roll please. This may have been the best paella I've ever had. Okay okay, maybe somewhere along the coast in Spain I've had one fresher... but this was absolutely off the charts. Zero fishy smell. Just beautiful saffron-infused rice with that perfect slight crisp, loaded with mussels, clams, octopus, calamari, shrimp, and more. Built for two people to share and completely unforgettable. A few glasses of house white later and bam - there was absolutely no chance I was going back to work. And dessert? I kept telling myself: "No dessert, Frank. No dessert." But there's a rule in life ; if you see crème brûlée on a menu, you order it. This wasn't exactly crème brûlée, but a cheesecake-inspired version of it. Two spoons, four bites, and thank you very much. Favourite meal of the year so far. Completely blown away by this place. Mercatto -- go now. Go fast.

Even though it's not my usual favorite, it was rich, flavorful, and paired nicely with the optional little crisp toasts. The baked white asparagus was a highlight, fresh and flavorful with a touch of minced meat that elevated the dish. The 16oz beef rib steak was cooked well done but still tender and juicy, and the accompanying little peppers added a subtle kick without being overwhelming. Staff were friendly off the bat and very attentive after each dish was finished, making sure to wipe off the table or exchanging the plates which I was really impressed with despite how busy they were. We decided to go with their tasting menu where you gave them a price range you wanted to stick to - I believe it was $85-$200, and you can mention some dishes you definitely want to try and they curate the rest for you which I thought was so unique! I loved the idea of that. The dishes we really wanted were the octopus, bone marrow and scallops. The only standout dishes to me were the scallops, and a salad I cannot remember the name of but was so shocked at how good just a simple salad could be. Other than that, the other dishes were still good, but nothing extraordinary to be honest. The octopus was a bit too charred which was disappointing as it was what I was looking forward to the most. The tasting menu we got also had mainly vegetable dishes (other than the ones I just mentioned), so was hoping to get a few more meat dishes. This is definitely a great spot for vegetarians as it had a lot of veggie dishes. I would still come back to maybe try some of their other more meat focused dishes. The first course was Labneh with bread, hummus, & beef tartare. Second course was Lamb pide & pear salad. Third course was grilled branzino, middle eastern fried chicken, black truffle rice, and thrice cooked fries. Then there was dessert which was chocolate mousse cake & baklava. Because of my many food allergies the main server for our table was very attentive & specific in asking me what I wanted as modifications. For example I got a wagyu beef pide instead of the lamb. Every dish was really delicious, presented well & quite filling. I couldn't eat all of the food. Though I tried almost everything. Service: The pacing of the dishes was quite masterful. They really paid attention to when the food was going to come out. As I mentioned above the main server was very attentive to my food allergies. I really appreciated that as some restaurants aren't as attentive. The food was served family style so everyone could take what they wanted from the serving dishes. The dishes were served in little bowls along the tables with each bowl serving about 4 people. We had asked for one long table so it was a little snug. But we made it work. Ambiance: For dinner the lighting of the space is really dim. LOL. I would have appreciated just a little bit more light. The restaurant is in an old building so to use the washroom you had to go down two flights of stairs. The dining area is small also. But it's a pretty space. As mentioned above we asked for one long table to seat 15 people. I was expecting square tables but it was a bunch of small round tables pushed together. So the tables were really crowded with food from all the dishes. But the servers made sure to take empty serving dishes away as soon as possible. The music was a little loud for me so I had to yell to be heard. The place was packed though. Everyone at our table enjoyed the food, the service & atmosphere. The restaurant is close to Roy Thompson Hall & the other theatres nearby so it's a convenient location as well. It's too bad this place is only open for dinner. I would have loved to see how they would operate a lunch time service. In any case, Byblos was amazing. I would come back here again to try other dishes! Note: Some of my pics of the main dishes didn't turn out so it's mostly desserts that are pictures
