Couple of pints of Sapporo on their lovely patio

Lovely little patio inside a hidden courtyard was what drew us here and the food was also good enough to promise a second visit with some friends. It's not easy to find quaint patios like this one serving up Asian fares in the Durham region and this was such a great addition to our rotation of go-to restaurants. We wanted to try as many items off the menu and everything we ordered from the sashimi to chicken karaage were well prepared. The ramen could have used more umami depth for my liking but it was still decent. We look forward to coming back here to try other items from the menu soon!

Torched Unagi and Tofu pocket with Salmon were really good. Love the ambiance too. Service was very good too.

Had a great time at this wonderful establishment!! All the appetizers that I had were a hit! I will say that the waitress was very helpful and explained the menu in great detail which I appreciated dearly. Overall great restaurant, and the food is well plated and priced!!! I recommend you try the Fire dragon roll!

Closest decent Japanese restaurant in Pickering village. Lot of parking spots and located the courtyard area in Pickering village. Food is decent but price is a bit expensive for a lunch menu

The sushi Gods must've heard me crying over not having any box pressed sushi in Durham region and in comes Koo Izakaya! I have really missed good sushi during the pandemic as commute to downtown core ceased so this was heavenly and very much worth it. They are located in the middle of Pickering Village and has both indoor and outdoor courtyard sitting available. The Torched pressed Spicy Salmon was divine as was the Fire Dragon Roll. Highly recommend that you give it a try if you have also been missing good sushi in Durham. Opened only two weeks ago so they are bound to get very busy soon. Btw - the gyoza I can take it or leave it.

I tried the sushi here while visiting Pickering village, really fresh and delicious. I want to try more on their menu in the future.

Ended up going to the patio location and there's more dishes available dine (to my delight). Server was super sweet and service was really nice. Sushi and sashimi was melt in your mouth and so fresh!! Lots of cavier. Really liked the vibe indoors and outdoors dining. I would recommend the spicy sashimi salad, torched sushi and the special maki rolls. We got the white dragon and it was amazing! Usually for tapas, the portions are small but here the portions are larger than usual. Ah and don't forget to get the fresh moriwase...

Was seated in their dinning hall ( the other side is more of a bar) and ordered a brunch tower for two. The tower includes their signature malaysian scrambled eggs, chorizo sausage, bacon, Brussel sprouts, toast with buttermilk pancakes stacked at top of the tower. The tower was beautifully presented and what I love most about the tower is their pancakes. Truly fluffy and light with whipped cream on top of it. Overall, service was efficient and attentive, often checked on and refilling water. On top of that, the restaurant has great decor and parking is provided in the back of the restaurant. Its considered on a slightly higher end for brunch ($20-30 range), but it was truly an amazing experience. They also have daily promos so worth checking out for dinner and late night deals.

I must say that I do understand why people are drawn to the restaurant - it is very pretty and makes for wonderful pictures! This includes the lovely visuals of the food, which is beautifully presented and extremely photogenic. The taste of the food, although quite acceptable, fell just a bit short of its looks. The variety of colours was not matched with a variety of flavours, and everything was somewhat on the salty and greasy side. That being said, we very much enjoyed the potato hash, pancakes, and French toast. The portion sizes also outdid themselves - if you're coming here for brunch, just be prepared for a long nap in the afternoon! Service was excellent: prompt, helpful, and friendly. The interior is fairly spacious and elegantly decorated. Overall, a pleasant experience even if it's not the most spectacular - and perhaps worth a visit for some based on the aesthetics alone.

The tapas are really good, though dishes did come out a bit on the slower side. But honestly, it fits the whole experience here: order a few cocktails, enjoy the atmosphere, and let the night unfold at its own pace (within the seating time limit of course). One of those spots that makes you want to order just one more plate. Came here on a Thursday night and was surprised at how busy it was for a weekday. Despite that, the service was excellent! Staff were friendly off the bat and very attentive after each dish was finished, making sure to wipe off the table or exchanging the plates which I was really impressed with despite how busy they were. We decided to go with their tasting menu where you gave them a price range you wanted to stick to - I believe it was $85-$200, and you can mention some dishes you definitely want to try and they curate the rest for you which I thought was so unique! I loved the idea of that. The dishes we really wanted were the octopus, bone marrow and scallops. The only standout dishes to me were the scallops, and a salad I cannot remember the name of but was so shocked at how good just a simple salad could be. Other than that, the other dishes were still good, but nothing extraordinary to be honest. The octopus was a bit too charred which was disappointing as it was what I was looking forward to the most. The tasting menu we got also had mainly vegetable dishes (other than the ones I just mentioned), so was hoping to get a few more meat dishes. This is definitely a great spot for vegetarians as it had a lot of veggie dishes. I would still come back to maybe try some of their other more meat focused dishes. Overall, I still had a great time and can't stress enough how lovely our waitress and the rest of the staff were!
