Thanksgiving Pumpkin Pie…read more I oicked up a "large" Pumpkin Pie from Paula Vegas today and could not be more disappointed. It's small. Normal 8 inch for a "large". There was not a lot of pumpkin filling and the crust was crumbled and dark. The Paula Vega quality has definitely plummeted. No pink box either. Just a pie tin covered with aluminum foil.

They've got other food and the donut case was full of incredible looking donuts, and I'm ready to get back there soon! Every year I travel to Huntington and spend a few days. Grindstone has been my go-to stop for locally roasted coffee and coffee drinks. The family that owns it is really nice and I usually get to have a quick chat with the Dad if he's working. Two mochas in this weekend and I am happy and caffeinated. Caffeine is my favorite drug, particularly from Grindstone. Last year I had the grilled cheese and tomato basil. This year I had an amazing bread pudding! That was the best warm bread pudding with a few shots of whipped cream on top.

Very good donuts!…read more When we walked in it was crowded and had a few people in line. They had a good selection of donuts, both in types and amounts of each. After we walked in, a fire truck pulled up, and the lady stopped helping the line to help the firefighters - although I had kids in the car and was in a hurry - it felt very small town, and that somehow added to the appeal. We got a dozen donuts including blueberry cake, devils food, honey dew, buttermilk, Boston cream, banana cream, cinnamon powdered sugar, strawberry cream, and some other one I can't remember the name of. They were all very tasty! The creams were generous, flavorful and a great texture and the powdered toppings were strong and packed on! My typical go-to are blueberry cake and devils food/chocolate cake, and they were just okay, but the rest were absolutely worth trying! Interestingly, they do a baker's dozen (13 not 12) but the 13th donut is chosen from a separate case with options that are different than the regular donut options and at other places would cost more like cinnamon rolls, apple fritters, specialty long johns, etc. we found that fascinating, as I tried to get one as part of my dozen and they said those are the free ones instead. I don't usually eat sugar, so trying donuts on this vacation was a big stretch for me, but these were absolutely worth it! If you're ever in the area and want a treat that's both authentic and tasty, Jolly Pirates is the place to try!
