The hand formed Patties are a full 8 ounces of what tastes like good quality beef. The clientele was mainly locals and the servers working called most by name. Great down home country atmosphere, but only average food. Central City Cafe, featured on Food Network's DDD, is a charming Mom and Pop style eatery with just a touch of kitsch. Its menu is full of classic style food, like meatloaf, roast beef, and kielbasa. It's filling and comforting, but honestly isn't anything better than you would find at the local Cracker Barrel or your Mom's house (though your Mom's might be better). Still, the meatloaf, beans, kale, and cornbread hit the spot on a rainy evening and the service was friendly and efficient. It's worth a visit for the charming dining room and because it's a Huntington landmark, but don't expect the best meal you ever had. Oh, and go early--they close at 7:00. read more

Throwback-style diner/cafe in the old Central City area of Huntington. In near proximity to a town square style park & The Wild Ramp produce/Farmer's Market, it's really the only place to eat in the immediate vicinity. I stopped in for lunch and ordered a meatloaf sandwich on lite toast, which came with chips & a dill pickle spear. The meatloaf was made from scratch & very tasty (and also happens to be one of my favorite sandwiches). The only drawback was the chips as they were ever-so-slightly stale. I appreciated the sense of stepping back in time upon entering, as well as the cleanliness of the place. Staff & waitress were very friendly & prompt, and checked to see how my meal was. Price was fair and portions were hefty. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but if I'm in the area I'll definitely eat here again. read more

We were there close to closing and we had their Whataburger which was huge and served hot (so many places seems like you can't get hot food, much is precooked, but they made it right then and there its about a 1/2 lb of hamburger with 2 cheeses and all sorts of good things, It was so huge that it was basically our meal for the day it was delicious. read more

I have enjoyed lunch here for probably 20 years. It is a classic. Go on a Saturday and then antique shop up and down 14th Street. Afterward buy fresh vegetables at the farmers market next door. Back to lunch. Have the West Virginia blackened steak. Served with potato chips and ice tea. You can't go wrong. The service is terrific, the folks wonderful. This is a cute mom and pop style diner. Nice atmosphere, okay food. Everything was good but not spectacular. Most of the options were things like burgers, meatloaf, beans and cornbread etc, but they did have a couple salads and vegetable plates (Cracker Barrel style- where you pick side dishes to make up your meal). We got grilled cheese, a turkey burger, and side salads. Everything was fine and I'd go again if someone else wanted to- it just wouldn't be my top choice. read more

Charming lunch place, with home-style delicious food The day I visited it was extremely hot and the thin orange slices in the water was perfectly hydrating. I had the chicken salad plate which as made up of cold salads each of which reminded me of something my grandma would make. I've learned that if a place is ever featured on Food Network, they won't be that good. I've probably gone to 20 places that were on this channel, and only about a third of them were worth checking out. This is no exception. Years ago I got a really good bison burger there. Unfortunately they no longer sell it and the food that they do sell is rather subpar. I mean, it's ok if you are wanting southern food, but I wouldn't consider them to be a fresh establishment by any means. read more

So, this happened today... Since mom and I do not see each other enough, I thought I would take her to Central City Cafe for lunch. I have been to this quaint little cafe several times and have enjoyed it as I thought my mother would as well as it would have been her first time. That has since changed... We arrived at around 12 noon and at 12:45, we still hadn't received our lunch (grilled ham and cheese). Four other people who came in after us had been served. I also had to go to the counter and get my own drink refills. If that wasn't enough, when I went to inquire about why it was taking so long, I was met by a very abrupt, "I am not in charge with the cooking and we will bring it out to you when it's done!" I told him I thought that was absurd and and he told me that I could just "EXPLETIVE leave then!" I immediately asked to speak to the manager/owner, who just so happened to be his mother. She had the audacity to forcibly put her hand on my shoulder and when I asked her to not touch me, she suggested that it was best that I just leave and turned around and walked away. As we were leaving, my mother simply stated that this was not a great way to treat a first time customer, and the man yelled VERY loudly across the restaurant, "We have been here for 45 years, we will be here another 45!" Wow, seriously? Breathe, Laura, breathe... So, needless to say, we left the restaurant and went over to Shirley's Family Skillet in Ceredo where were greeted with open arms and received our grilled ham and cheese in less than 15 minutes. Not only was it quite yummy, it was also less expensive and the service was impeccable. read more

I wasn't expecting this place to be so good! Make sure you get the sweet tea, it's the best around. The whatta burger was delicious and the grilled chicken salad had lots of flavor. My favorite part, though, was the apple pie...oh my it was heavenly. Not a huge variety of menu choices but that's to be expected at a cafe. We will be back! read more
