WHAT A BLESSING to find main courses, side dishes, dinners, lunches and snacks... soup to meatloaf... FAR MORE than I expected, and NOT ONE was a dud! The staff is always so kind -- they truly do represent the best of Boyd County! THENNNN.... LET'S discuss the "Saturday Only" donuts, and the best Cream Horns we've had across 5 states! People told us we should expect to gain 30 lbs in the first 6 months of living in KY... We kickstarted that with their treats! The cupcakes and cookies are ON POINT and their cakes won't do you wrong either. They even have Dog Treats made from scratch and several flavors of handmade fudge! If my A1C scores go up I'll have to make LESS trips to this place, but for now??? Like I told my husband-- "just know-- if it kills me-- I DIED HAPPY!"

I'm from a small town in Eastern Kentucky and along with our one stop sign we had a small store Fallsburg Grocery. I was driving at the age of 13 and it was nothing for my Mom to tell me to go to the store to get thick cut bologna and Heiner's bread. I would always get a packaged creme horn. I don't recall the brand. I just know the wrapper had a bear on it and my sister and I loved them. So delicious. I'll definitely be back.

I got a cortado, which was decent, and the empanada special (1 chicken + 1 beef) with a cup of the coconut curry miso -- the food was excellent, especially the soup. The service was good, and the ambiance is moody and quirky, with a rustic retro vibe. It's a great place to study or read a book.

Their offerings are impressive, and include a dessert spread and empanadas and other food cooked to order. They are notable for having several vegetarian and vegan items, which is not always easy to find in this part of the country or in this cuisine. They were out of some things, and notably I had to switch from a more interesting kale salad to their basic one, which had a few dodgy leaves that weren't the freshest but overall was fine. My lentil empanada was of a good size and was robustly filled. It's this sort of thing that I think of when I see places that don't offer plant-based options. It's delicious. It's recognizable, real food. Why not offer something like this? Their dessert selection included a GF vegan case with one type of muffin in it, and some more conventional and splendid looking creations that I did not have room for. My light lunch satisfied, and I'm sure dessert would have been good as well.

The shelves were adorned with an extensive collection of books, while other charming items lined the walls. Their menu offered a diverse range of dishes, catering to various tastes. As an avid Eggs Benedict enthusiast, my choice was an easy one. My companion opted for the breakfast bowl with bacon, and both dishes were exceptionally tasty, with well-balanced seasoning. I couldn't help but notice a steak sizzling on a lava rock, promising a delectable culinary experience. However, the service was slightly slow due to the restaurant's popularity. Despite the crowd, our waitress was incredibly kind and even offered an apology for any inconvenience caused. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant for breakfast or brunch when visiting the area.

Everything we tried was soft, fresh, and flavorful without being overly sweet, which I really appreciated. You can tell this is the kind of place that's been doing things the same (and doing them well) for a long time. The prices were also surprisingly great, and had they been listed, I would have purchased a lot more. It's a small, old-school bakery that's clearly been a local favorite for generations, and that charm is part of what makes it special. That said, as first-time visitors, it was a little tough to navigate. Nothing is labeled, no menu, no prices, so we had to ask a few questions and rely on recommendations. Maybe it was just a busy Saturday morning, but the young woman helping us didn't seem thrilled that I was taking photos and asking about the pastries. I get that most of their customers are probably regulars who already know what they want, but for those of us just passing through, a little guidance (and patience) would go a long way. Even with that experience, I'd still recommend stopping by. The pastries really are that good, the prices are fair, and it's the kind of nostalgic, old fashioned bakery that's getting harder to find these days.
