Inside the pork banh mi! Mouthwatering!
Shayla B.

I'm OBSESSED! This cafe makes the BEST friggin' banh mi sammies and I am so addicted at this point. The true definition of a hidden gem! Nomad is tucked away on a corner off of Shattuck Ave. Street parking only, but it's usually pretty easy to find parking if you're coming during a weekday afternoon. The staff is so incredibly sweet here and it's never been crazy busy when I've visited. It's a small shop but super cozy with both indoor and outdoor seating. I've had several of their drinks (chai tea, smoothies, Thai tea) and everything has tasted really good. But the real reason why I keep coming back here is for those damn banh mi's! I mean... Geezus. They are just... so friggin' good. The bread always tastes so fresh and perfectly crispy like they just took it out of the oven. The meat is always tender and when I ask for spicy, they actually make it spicy. I usually go for the pork chop banh mi and it is always fiyah. I long for that crunch after my first bite. It is just so amazing. A pork chop banh mi with a Thai iced tea on their patio on a warm day is like heaven on earth! You think I'm jokin'... but I ain't! Have yourself one and experience the joy. I have and it's pretty mind blowing. So, sooo grateful to have this little gem down the street from where I work.

Vietnamese Iced Coffee 16 oz

I stopped by in the morning for a caffeine fix and got their viet iced coffee. It was perfectly sweetened and extremely caffeinated as it should be! The man working was super nice and quick which I appreciated since I was on the way to work. The cafe had some seating and lots of food options I'm definitely going to come back and try for a little weekend cafe hang.

First time here Yelp lead me here as I was searching for Vietnamese coffee in the area. I drove up and found parking right in front YAY This is a little neighborhood spot, very low key and seems to be family owned and locally owned cafe. Inside is well organized and clean. Menu is easy to read Prices are reasonable Customer service is friendly Vietnamese coffee did not disappoint $6.75 Chicken Banh Mi with avocado $12.50 Total $20.29 Street parking only indoor and outdoor seating available

The veggie sandwich on sourdough with hummus, lettuce, tomato, cucumber and onion is fresh and delicious.

Fresh, friendly and delicious are accurate words for Nomad Cafe. My friend and I happened on it while visiting antique stores in Oakland/Berkeley and will definitely go back. Next time I'll try the Bahn mi because they have a large selection including pineapple with tofu that looked intriguing. The veggie sandwich comes with either cream cheese or hummus. I chose the hummus and devoured the freshest most delicious sandwich ever. It had lettuce, tomato, cucumber and onion on sourdough. There are several bread choices. My friend had a tuna on sourdough and said it was perfect and almost over stuffed with great tuna salad. She enjoyed her Vietnamese iced coffee. The people working here are super nice and friendly. We grabbed a table outside to sit in the sun and they brought our sandwiches out to us. Parking was easy in the neighborhood. While I mention veggie options, they have everything an omnivore would want.

Sweet little cafe. I popped in here before a morning meeting to just get hot tea to go. The service was good, everyone was friendly, and they had great loose leaf tea options. I chose the lemon ginger and it was flavorful. They had a nice menu too, so I look forward to returning to get a bite next time.

I had a really delicious breakfast sandwich on a plain bagel. loved it. kudos to the chef!

The lavender latte made my day! This café offers great quality sandwiches and coffee. The outdoor seating is a perfect match for a sunny day. I'll definitely be coming back to spend more time here.

Smoothie

This delicious smoothie is from the next day because I ordered a batch of smoothies for my busy weekend meal prep and let me tell you it was totally worth it! I always order delivery from Nomad Cafe and they always kill it! Even the smoothie with turmeric is so yummy!!! I usually get their smoothies, lattes, breakfast bagel sandwiches and salads they keep me coming back and their smoothies are a delight because I find smoothies difficult to find these days .... Thank you Nomad!! Until next time :)

Nomad's cortado had way too much milk and foam. It seemed more like a latte than anything else.

I drive by Nomad fairly often, usually while looking to go south on the freeway. I was always intrigued by this cafe, which struck me consistently as a friendly and interesting neighborhood place. I finally stopped in with a friend one Saturday morning, expecting an ethereal coffee experience. I'm sorry to report that I didn't get one. I ordered a cortado and found it to have "way too much milk and foam" (according to my photo caption) and to come across like a weak latte. Bummer! My visit was only Strike One. I continue to think of Nomad as friendly and interesting. I hope to try it again.

Nice little cafe that is a great place for enjoying some peace and quiet while getting some work done. I came here on a Sunday morning where the restaurant started getting busy towards the end of my visit. There's a few tables inside and outside for guests. They have a great variety of blended, cold, hot drinks, smoothies and a cooler with energy drinks and other goodies. I tried their pork banh mi which had a sensation of flavors of textures. The pork was super juicy and filling. I also liked their garlic pesto sandwich. The sandwich was very umami and super satisfying. Overall, I enjoyed the food and would come back in the future.

The pandan waffle was also pretty good. The waffle was fluffy and full of pandan flavor. i personally would've liked it like a tad crispier. egg coffee was solid. The signature sweet and strong viet coffee. the whipped egg topping lent a nice fluffiness to the dense coffee and mellowed out the strength of the caffeine. Definitely would come back again. I've visited elaichi twice since in the area already and I plan on going back again. My first visit was on a Monday morning with a friend. I ordered the Banana Chai Einspanner (chai with banana sea salt cold foam) with oat milk and the Aloo Tiki Paratha Roll (potato fritter with cilantro chutney, red onion and garlic yogurt). My friend ordered a hot latte and the Paratha Quiche (tomato, red onion, Serrano and cilantro). We also shared a piece of Pistachio Cake. The Banana Chai Einspanner is simply the best drink I have ever had in my entire life. I am truly not kidding. It is so decadent, smooth, spicy, fresh. This is the best drink to grace this plant. My friend was really happy with her latte as well. I wouldn't say it strikes the "classic chai" chord, as this is incredibly sweet, so if you're looking for that, I would select a more basic option on the menu. It's also worth noting, the Banana Chai is a seasonal option for the summer. As for the food, everything was delicious. The Pistachio Cake was moist and had such great flavor. The crusts on both of our savory dishes were so flaky! I visited again on a Tuesday morning (yes the next day) and ordered the Banana Chai Einspanner once again and the quiche. Both were as delicious as the first time around. And the product isn't it all. The staff at elaichi are incredibly friendly. Even when the shop was busy on the Monday morning, we were taken care of with respect and care. I can tell the staff also have good relationships with those in the community. I've tried the Uji matcha latte ($6.95) and genmaicha latte ($6.75). The Uji matcha latte was grassy, but still smooth and strong. I think I would've liked just a little more depth and richness, but it's still a drink I'd happily order again. I also tried the genmaicha latte, which was less sweet than the Uji matcha. I really liked how the toasted, nutty flavor of the genmaicha balanced the sweetness, though I thought it slightly overpowered the matcha. You can really taste the quality and care that goes into their drinks. I definitely want to try their black sesame matcha next! The cafe has a calm, minimalist aesthetic with limited seating, including a high table where you can watch the drinks being made. They use oat milk by default, although there isn't currently an option to substitute whole milk. There's a small parking lot, with additional street parking available in the surrounding residential area. Beautiful cafe shop!…read more Coffee was super good! I've gone to bu ch of spots so I'm super pleased with the service, the place being so clean and friendly. Highly recommend to visit.

Hello, my fellow café junkies…read more I LOVE little cafés. I will happily spend my hard-earned money on an overpriced chai latte while sitting somewhere cute pretending I have my life together. So when I say I'm definitely not coming back here, just know it pains my café-loving heart. First, let me give credit where credit is due: the atmosphere is GREAT. Super cute. Super cool. Great little hidden spot. The service, however? SucKs--with a capital K. ‍ Here's how my first--and probably last--visit went: 1. We ordered THREE chai lattes: two hot chai lattes and one iced chai latte with oat milk. Pretty straightforward. Nobody was ordering a 14-step potion from Hogwarts. 2. We received only two drinks. So, channeling my inner Karen from Boyle Heights, I politely went back and said, "Excuse me, we ordered THREE chai lattes." 3. They told me they hadn't charged me for the third drink. Okay! No problem. I work my ass off. I don't mind spending money. Charge me, hermana. Let's get this chai flowing. 4. I took a sip of my supposedly hot chai latte and immediately my taste buds sounded the emergency alarm: NOPE. THAT'S COFFEE. 5. I looked at my husband suspiciously and asked, "Is yours chai or coffee?" He took his first sip and said, "This is coffee." At this point, the chai lattes had apparently entered the Witness Protection Program because nobody could find them. 6. I went back. To their credit, they were perfectly willing to remake the drinks. Thank you! And when we finally received the two hot chai lattes, they were actually GOOD. Crisis temporarily averted. 7. THEN I looked over at my friend holding the supposedly iced chai latte with oat milk and thought, Wait a minute... "Taste yours." He takes a sip. "This is coffee." GIRL. THREE chai lattes ordered. THREE chai lattes misunderstood. At that point, I wasn't ordering beverages anymore. I was participating in a listening-comprehension assessment. ‍ The person taking our order seemed rushed, distracted, and all over the place. And listen--mistakes happen. I teach for a living. I have patience. But when every single drink in one order is wrong, we've moved beyond "oops" and entered performance art. No manchen--venimos a gastar, no a pendejear. ‍ So here's my recommendation: If you're particular about actually receiving the beverage you ordered, you may want to try another café. Or, if this place has an app, USE THE APP. Let technology translate "chai latte" into "chai latte" because apparently the spoken version is giving everybody trouble. Better yet, buy your drinks somewhere else and bring them here. Then you can enjoy the cute atmosphere without participating in Chai Latte Roulette: Will It Be Chai? Will It Be Coffee? Nobody Knows! The place is called Hidden Café, and after today's experience... I can see why it's hidden. Cute environment? Absolutely. Would I trust them with another three-chai-latte mission? Esta mamona la cosa. Hard pass. ‍ Come for the atmosphere. Bring your own drink. And may the odds of receiving what you ordered be ever in your favor. Signed, A recovering Chicana Karen from Boyle Heights who just wanted her damn chai.

Worth waiting in that line? For me personally, no, but it was a well made latte and quite smooth. Was it the best latte I have ever had? No but it was a good one and I think it would be easier to discern the true quality with a straight espresso shot or even a cappuccino. I like my lattes to have a little more character from the beans but well made. My favorite thing about it was actually the temperature. It wasn't crazy hot so you could actually enjoy it instantly. Some may want it hotter but for me it was ideal. They do have seasonal drinks including a pumpkin spice latte for fall and solid selection of non coffee drinks. The almond croissant I had (not baked by them I don't think) was good but a bit too crispy and over baked . I think I have been spoilt by the very excellent croissants of San Francisco and have yet to find an amazing one in the East Bay but it was clearly made with good butter and lots of almonds. Plenty of seating although every inside table was taken by people; some outside tables were open. They also have a solid selection of local beans for sale. Overall, a solid shop but don't come if you're in a hurry.

If you're expecting something more permanent this coffee shop is more like a temporary coffee cart that has roots in the back corner of this gift shop On the whole this place despite the hidden location has folks very much eager to bring specialty coffee to anybody interested. They have a large selection of relatively high end coffee in the likes of Geisha from Panama and Ethiopian coffees. Additionally, they're the only place I've ever seen across the US that is showcasing any coffee grown in China which is nice to see as that allows more exploration into how the terroir affects the taste of coffee For my first time here I came with a small group of coffee enthusiasts so we tried a selection of their Alo Main Station (notes of Sweet Orange, Bergamont, and Peach Oolong Tea), Finca Santa Maria (notes of Cherry, Mango, and Berry Jam), and Lerida Loma Washed (notes of White Floral, Mandarin Orange, and Longan) Each cup was uniquely different from each other but arguably the most enjoyed was their cheapest option in the Alo Main Station at $9. Each cup seemed completely different and may seem pretentious to say but they did have sweeter notes that you'd be very unlikely to taste from your well known coffee chains. This place definitely caters to the coffee enthusiasts in a way where even my group wasn't quite near the level of but it had a great atmosphere, nice outdoor seating, and staff who were very passionate about their craft If anything, I would probably come back as they do elevate coffee for those who are unaware of coffee coming from China but that coffee doesn't need to taste bitter, burnt, or chocolatey. The cups here were more like tasting a mellowed fruit juice but it just happens to be coffee. That said, unless you are eager to try specialty coffee this place may seem overpriced as their pour overs are between $9 - $25 which heavily differs from most other coffee shops. Having Masterpiece provide a glimpse of the specialty coffee scene within the Bay Area is still a welcome blessing as it has a similar vibe to specialty coffee shops you'd experience in Asia

I'm old fashion and typically love a classic latte or black coffee but decided to be adventurous…read moreand try the Kuro. Since my husband was doing an iced Shiro, I went with a hot version of the Kuro. We both got whole milk rather than oat milk. While I loved both options the Kuro was definitely my favorite and did not disappoint. There's some seating options outside to enjoy your coffee and tons of vintage items to browse through inside while you wait for your coffee.
