I was sad to find out that this place is as bad as I heard!! I was so excited to perhaps find a dive-y place to go to with my girl JoJo from time to time, but dive isn't even the word. First of all let's talk about the Friday buffet: One Crock Pot filled with what looks like Progresso Soup Ritz Crackers A giant container of black pepper All 7-10 of the patrons seemed to be okay, except for the woman dressed up as the Cat in the Hat. I could have lived without that. And sadly, this dive does not offer Bud heavy on tap... or any beer on tap for that matter. If you're going to be a dive bar, go big or go home! OH Nolan's. Before good old sandy , I lived a short bike ride away from here. This is definitely NOT the place to go if you are looking to meet any one. The first time i came here, I was by far the youngest person here. It was full of local drunks, which is totally fine with me, but be warned it may not be your scene. They serve liquor out of small plastic cups. Drinks are pretty strong and cheap though. My friend & I would come here once in a while when we weren't in the mood to really go out, but just to grab a drink and either play pool or that game where you find the differences on the naked ladies (any one?...) The game machine drowned in sandy unfortunately. I just came in here last weekend, and in addition to the local drunks...there were actually a group of young people here!! And attractive ones!! Weird. We didn't even know what to do. I didn't shower before I came because you just KNOW you will have no one to impress at Nolan's. Maybe it was more crowded because it was labor day weekend, or maybe this will be the new LB hotspot!! read more

I was staying at a local hotel and wanted to watch the Women's World Cup Soccer and Nolan's was the closest bar to where I was staying so I called ahead and they said they were showing it. What a find! I absolutely love this place first of all I got there at 3pm and didn't leave until 9pm. Everyone there was so kind and friendly. Almost everyone I spoke to had been going to Nolan's for 40+ years. The minute I walked in ppl said hello and two patrons were hilariously funny with each other- I knew this place had personality and liked it immediately. The bartender Jackie was great. They had food I assume for happy hour which was very tasty and there was a lifeguard annual party and I was able to chat with a lot of lifeguards including a 99 year old gentleman named Lou who started lifeguarding in 1938. I would recommend this place for someone who's looking to have a causal nice time at a local bar with very funny characters!! read more

I'd like to refute the review the other "lady" wrote regarding this bar. 1. I don't go to bars looking for hook ups, free food, or lice (the first one I'm sure not to find here, the last one, without a doubt) 2. My last favorite bar in Long Beach was Reilly's. A real dive bar. 3. Yelp is opinion based. If you don't agree with mine, that's okay - even encouraged. There seem to be a lot of people on Yelp that insist that they "love a good dive". Yet you read their reviews and it's apparent that they don't really know what a dive is. Nolan's is my favorite dive on Long Island. I used to live down the road and came in one night, instantly became friendly with the bartender. Soon I became friendly with some customers and the next thing you know your part of the family, even if you don't get to come down all the time. The drinks are cheap but strong, the people are genuine and I've never seen a fight there. It's like your old scruffy uncle that might not be the nicest thing to look at, but you know he's got a good heart and at least he's sincere. Haha, I love this place! read more

This is the locals type dive bar a true classic to Long Beach, there's bocce ball outside older inebriated men possibly falling off stools, small plastic cups filled with various spirits being consumed by aforementioned older men. There's a dartboard a juke box and written on the men's bathroom wall "Eat my balls". The true spirit of a dive bar lives here, the end. read more

There's a very relaxed feeling at Nolan's. Not somewhere that you have to get all dressed up or fancy. Everyone in there gets along, and from the second you enter you feel like you fit right in. Open late, which is why I love to stop here at the end of the night. Low prices make it perfect to hang out with some friends and enjoy the night. Definitely a favorite spot of mine. Even when I don't feel like going out, this place I make an exception for. read more

Came across this Pub during our first visit to Long Beach . It will be our last . We are new to the area which I am sure the bartender knew as before she gave us our drinks she told us "cash only"No problem! When we were up to our third drink she asked for us to put the cash on the table "nothing personal " she added . She said she doesn't do a tab so everyone puts cash in the table . Well why didn't she say that before or after our first drink . Why our third ? She obviously felt a certain type of way with us . We didn't bother with another drink and still tipped her . However next visit to Long Beach we are better off buying beers in the friendly Rite Aid next to the Beach ! read more

Friendly, easy going atmosphere where every single person there is friendly. As former residents of this town, and after Sandy, a lot has changed. BUT Nolans' still has that small neighborhood feel, where everyone knows you and welcomes you with a hug. If you want reasonable prices and good conversation...this is the place. What a fantastic place! The drinks are cheap and flow steadily from the able hands of the take-no-shit female bartenders who, I'm sure, have seen some shit in this place. People on here whining about the "scary" locals and making up bullshit insect infestations should be ashamed of themselves. Everyone in here was super friendly and even bought me a couple of drinks. Played a couple games of pool, drank some bud cans, and did whiskey shots with some affable drunks. Don't get it twisted - this is a dive bar - as another reviewer wisely stated - it is NOT an "ironic dive bar" like you might find in Brooklyn - in fact, irony does not exist here. This is where irony comes to die. If you are in Long Beach - especially if you are visiting from the city - check this place out. This wonderful type of establishment has long been priced out of the city and replaced - check your arrogant attitude, snark, and holier-than-thou attitude at the door and enjoy. read more

Great bar if you're white I assume. No draft which I thought was strange. No kitchen. Still thought it looked like a cool local Irish pub to check out. I was wrong. I wanted to like this place but felt profiled and I'm a white guy from the south. My wife's Latina. Went in, sat down and ordered our drinks. So far, so good. Bartender informed me it was cash only. I acknowledged that isn't a problem. I have cash on me. I left my wallet on the bar with my wife and used the restroom. Came back and asked for a beer. Put my wallet back in my pocket. Bartender then informs me "Nothin' personal but everyone leaves their cash on the bar because it's cash only. "I canceled my request for a beer while half the bar might have tips on the bar in front of them. Left my tip, paid my tab and will never be back. I moved from the Deep South to NYC and nothing personal Nolan's Pub but I'm glad I made the decision not to move to Long Island because this reinforces the stereotypes of Long Island unfortunately. read more

Great bar... Great bartenders...a Long Beach legend...if your lucky you might even run into the Crasher during one of his surprise visits

This bar is quintessentially long beach. I stumbled into here late night with a friend after being invited by another group of people, and all I can say is what a great time. It doesn't attract the proverbial Dennis the Mennace type wash outs but rather a group of people who have weathered the storm time after time and seem to have had fun while doing it. With that being said, if you are not ready to engage in discourse tantamount to Clint Eastwood and his barber in Gran Torino, this place is most definitely not for you. Be ready to be challenged, harangued, and prodded; but what fun would a local bar be without an initiation of sorts. In terms of the ambiance, this place feels more like your living room than a dive bar and a testament to this is the fact that they serve all their beers in cans. It is cash only although there is an antiquated machine where you swipe your debit card and can get a tab at the bar. The fact that this machine never seems to work yet everyone attempts to use it (drunkenly) only adds to the mystique of this establishment. If you are looking for an unpretentious and alcohol fueled bacchanalia, Nolan's is most definitely the way to go. If you want to fist pump and wear your Armani slippers and use your dads credit cards to buy magnums of Grey Goose; stay away. read more

I read the two other reviews from two mislead ladies looking for an ironic "dive bar," one which has all the falsity of a Brooklyn or Manhattan "dive" bar. Nolan's isn't one of those, so they're right. But they ate oh so wrong in so many ways. You can go down west and pay for Bud from a tap. That's fine. It you can go to Nolan's and get a can of bud for less than half the price. It's an actual bar, not a joint to hook up in. So regardless of your age, it's a bar that lets you make your own fun. In other words, it's a real bar, Pinocchio! Brian is amazing as is his wife who frequently makes delicious Jell-o or pudding shots. The clientele is a bit brusque, sure; but they're there to socialize over drinks, music, tv, pool, clackers, etc. if you go in expecting to hook up with some douche, then you'd be better off paying $5.75 to get driven down West. I'm in my 20s and I'm a lifelong fan of the relaxed and fun atmosphere at Nolan's. Idiots looking for free food need not apply. read more
