I cannot recommend Ron highly enough! He is personable, reliable, HONEST and so so friendly!…read more I'm a 29 year old female who doesn't know jack sh*t about cars. Today I called because my car was reluctant to start over the last few days. Ron encouraged me to drop by so he could check my battery connection and look under the hood. He listened to my uneducated explanation of what was going on, tightened a couple connections and was patient while we tested other possibilities. He explained everything in a way that I could understand. Thankfully, while I was still at the shop the engine acted up and Ron determined my starter was shot (likely from my battery connection being loose). He was able to order a new starter at a very fair price and replace it SAME DAY. I was willing to leave my car with him for 2 weeks if I needed to, but Ron only needed TWO HOURS. He admits this doesn't always happen, as his schedule after today is booked out 3 weeks in advance (I have waited 2 weeks to get in with him in the past), but today was a lucky day. I drive a 2003 saturn ion (15 years old!) with 230K+ miles on it and Ron was encouraging that with good attention and care the little car will continue to run for quite a while! I both want everyone to know about Ron and I want no one to know about him so I can keep his service to myself. Also, he just got internet so he can order parts faster than before (ha!). He only takes cash or check. His business strengthens our community. WORTH THE WAIT. Seriously such an upstanding guy!

He's been around for years and is an icon in the Longfellow Neighborhood. He fixed my minor body work issue in 15 minutes and didn't charge me, saving me the $1000 bill that the dealership wanted to charge for the repair. I'd recommend him to anyone.

Job prospects moved me out of Minnesota in the late 1990's My brakes recently failed on a Sunday evening as I was pulling into Minneapolis for a visit, and I happened to be on 41st and Lake, one block from Starr. While I hadn't used Starr since the last century, I was still in their database. They got my brakes overhauled by Tuesday morning, early. They came in 15% under the estimate, and the original estimate was more than reasonable. I miss this place.

I explained that I believed the issue was caused by the neutral safety switch, which is a known and common issue for this model. Instead of inspecting that part, the shop replaced my starter and battery terminal posts, charging me $966. The problem was never fixed -- the Jeep still has the exact same starting issue. When I returned, Starr Auto admitted it might actually be the neutral safety switch and said they could repair it for another $200. That clearly shows the first repair was misdiagnosed and unnecessary. I'm a disabled veteran with VA disabled license plates, and I rely on my vehicle for daily mobility. I trusted this shop to treat me fairly, but instead I feel taken advantage of and disappointed by their lack of professionalism and integrity. I've since filed a credit card dispute for the $966 charge and would strongly caution other customers -- especially veterans -- to avoid this business.
