This beach is small and in a very scenic part of Woods Hole, MA. We have used it as far back as when we first visited the area over 50 years ago. In the early 1980s we lived nearby for a while, a full year the first time and a summer the year after. It is mostly used by locals as there is a bigger more obvious beach in nearby Falmouth with life guards, showers and bathrooms. This little beach has always been at your own risk to use, and access was first come, first to park nearby, along the road. Now the parking during the day is reserved only for residents of the entire town of Falmouth (which includes Woods Hole) and under their jurisdiction. So visitors to the area on a summer day must walk quite some distance or get dropped off unless they wait until after 5pm to try and park when the resident stickers are not needed. It's still hard. We tried twice on our recent trip and on the second day found a spot about 6pm.
But we had only planned to walk along it and not swim so that was enough of a treat this time. We took some pictures as in the past and from here you can see the Nobska Point Lighthouse quite easily. The parking up there is reserved for their uses, some for tourists and some for staff.
When we lived here, we went often. We swam and played with the kids. There are views of the ferry to the Vineyard and all the ships that sail by. It's a quaint little beach but as all the surrounding land is privately owned along the roadside, this is as good as it will get for tourists. It will never have a pay for use parking lot like Surf Drive Beach in Falmouth. That is where we did go on this trip. But the walk in the evening was worth the multiple attempts. I was spoiled when a resident but sad that does not count for current full use. read more
