A spectacular, historic beach no matter what time of day. In the early morning, one can see…read morefishermen, fishing boats and the illuminated ferries while at midday, the waves sparkle and the gulls sun themselves. Surf Drive Beach is the site of the Old Stone Dock, attacked during the War of 1812. It was once where "packets" (mail ships) set sail. While part of New England maritime history, it is now more subdued. There's decent parking, it's clean, safe, with excellent views of Vineyard Sound. It reflects the seasons. One can watch osprey, gulls, and cormorants. It's more for relaxation than swimming. Beautiful eastern views.

Turquoise clear just like the carribeean! Was stunning. Deducting a star because it's resident sticker only so if you don't live here you cant drive here. I was able to go on my bike. 1 mile off the bike trail. Wish the beach was open to the public even for a fee. Also tons of guppies in the water which is cute but they kept following me around!

There are always lots of mothers and kids on that portion of the beach any time of day (it's also fun for anyone that likes to examine sea creatures...even if you aren't a kid anymore). The actual "real" beach part has grown steadily rockier and the shoreline has definitely receded over time so there isn't as much pure sand as there used to be which is too bad, it was one of my favorites back in the day. It still boasts some nice swimming, especially at low tide when you have to walk for a really long time to even get to water to swim in. Not too sea-weedy usually either but again, the rocks abound. There is a lovely view though and you can walk to Black Beach and all the way to Chapoquoit as well (fantastic walk, highly recommended!).

"Chappy" seems to go forever in both directions ~ there's room for lots of beach lovers. Less…read morecrowded than Old Silver Beach. The water is a nice temp, & many swimmers are out playing in the waves. After you walk over 2' of smooth rocks, the sand bottom & shallow waves go out about 100'. Walk past the private beach to public land again through the dunes on Black Beach & on to Wood Neck Beach. Fabulous Sunset views ~ after Sunset, ribbons of colors paint the sky a unique design every night.

I emailed them only to found out they were not going to open the inn to guests. They offered the following - "We have an independent garage building on the property with a beautiful, airy 1-bedroom apartment above it that we are happy to move you to. It is quite an upgrade, as it is much larger, has a big balcony and has its own kitchen." She told me they would move us into that space at the same rate as long as we left a good review. Unfortunately we agreed to this and came upon several issues on arrival. 1 - I was told the unit we stayed in was a higher rate but that is not true. You rent it for $1700/week which is ~243 per night (before taxes etc.). We are being charged ~312 per night which was the B&B rate and did not get breakfast. 2 - The condition of this unit is not good. A. There are no curtains on the door that overlooks the driveway or in several of the bedroom and bathroom windows. It presents a significant privacy issue. B. The tv does not work properly. It posts an error message if you try and change the channel. C. The refrigerator is dirty. D. The condition of the bed is horrific. Throwing a cushion on top of an old worn mattress does not make a great place to sleep. E. There is no shower head so the water just sprays all over the place. The bathroom was also very poorly cleaned. 3. You told me you were not accommodating guests at the inn and that is clearly not the case as the parking lot is full and we have spoken to them. Lots of excuses were made. In their defense - they did credit me back the difference in rates. Overall this was just a disappointing stay.

I commute from RI so find a place to stay a few times a week. The Captain Lawrence Inn was a perfect place for me to rest in between shifts. The rooms are exceptionally clean, beds are cozy and the water pressure in the shower is excellent!

So I went straight to the source and connected with Mike Morrison, who was not only professional and honest, but genuinely invested in making our family kayak dream happen. He even dropped a discount code like a true Cape Cod MVP. The experience? Unreal. We paddled out to a private beach only accessible by boat--and it was to die for. Calm waters, untouched shoreline, and the kind of peace that makes you forget your inbox exists. I still can't believe people get to do this regularly. It was truly memorable, and Rideaway made it seamless. They also offer sunset tours and paddle board rentals, which we're already eyeing for next time. The staff?
