I was going to wait until *after* I was done my treatment, but like most things in life, I have the…read morepatience of a preschooler and simply can't help myself.
If you want the best orthodontic treatment in the GTA, the search ends here.
About two years ago, a former dentist of mine advised me that while my teeth were straight, the misalignment of my bite was causing force on my lower teeth and in turn, causing recession of my gums. (in laymen's terms - bad, really bad) and I would likely require another stint of braces and orthognathic jaw surgery to rectify the problem. (Don't Google Image this if you have any interest in sleeping. It's not for the faint of heart...which I am.)
Being the obstinate individual that I am, I took what she said with a grain of salt, and disregarded it as dentistry scare-tactics and moved on with my day.
Fast forward 6 months later during fajita night, for some bizarre, indescribable reason, I finally took note that while my family members were happily biting into their fajitas - I was not quite having the same success. In fact, as I was 'biting' into said fajita, the condiments were all coming out.
Okay, that was a little troublesome. I was never particularly ignorant to the fact that my bite was never 100% corrected during my first stint in braces - ten years ago, I was happy to just have straight teeth. Now, now I was cognizant that my teeth simply weren't functional and thus began my obsessive Googling.
Cue the panic and a ruined New Years Eve (much to my best friend and boyfriends chagrin) frantically googling jaw surgery, accompanying risks, and overall paranoia surrounding being a twenty-something year old who was actually considering getting braces AGAIN.
In the throes of my self-induced despair where I cycled between crying and panicking - I stumbled upon Dr. Tasios website and my crying finally ceased from existence. His website advised of a free consultation, and I decided I would be able to put my mind at ease if I at least went and found out my options. I send in an email and began the waiting game (which I expedited by calling a few days later. I did mention my lack of patience, right?) After more creeping, because in this era of the internet, that's what you do - I learned a good friend of mine's boyfriend was a former patient of him and sung him praises. I was sold.
When appointment day came, I was surprised to find that the office was starkly different from my previous orthodontist. It was modern, stylish and welcoming - with an iPad to check in (the future is now, kids), a small games centre and coffee and treats in the waiting room. There was nothing sterile about the environment and the staff were warm and kind.
The admin team were extremely hospitable (a vast contrast from my previous stint) and I was soon in a consultation room gripping my boyfriend's hand in a vice grip...which I soon quickly realized was exceptionally unnecessary because...
Dr. Tasios is for lack of better words, an orthodontic visionary. He circled around me with careful eyes, and made his assessment: two teeth extractions (because your girl has horse teeth and an itty bitty mouth) and double jaw surgery, OR (bless your heart on this one, seriously) lose four teeth and have my bite 100% corrected (same results, only difference was my profile wasn't going to change.)
I took the information he gave me, got into the car and cried in both relief and fear because MY GOD, WAS I REALLY ABOUT TO DO THIS AGAIN?!
The answer was yes, yes I was about to do this again - and yes, it's been one of the better adult decisions I've made. In 7 months, not only have my teeth changed (think a wider, brighter smile), but so has my face. My teeth are beginning to fit in ways they never did before and I'm starting to become less cognizant of the way I'm smiling and just smile.
Dr. Tasios is a genius and a consummate professional who means business when it comes to getting you the smile you not only want, but deserve. I've still got a year and four months to go on this whole orthodontic journey, but I strongly encourage ANYONE who is considering orthodontics to drop Dr. Tasios and his team a line - the consultation is completely free and the experience is completely unparalleled. I'm already gearing up for my currently nonexistent children to be patients of Dr. Tasios because neither my partner nor I were blessed in the teeth department (and quite honestly, I've learned that having 'straight' teeth is nice, but the alignment of your jaw is equally important.)
This experience is truly changing my life and I owe it all to Dr. Tasios and his team.
