Coast is a favourite of many local Holywood residents and trust me these residents know their food. The interior decor is simple yet extremely effective, there seems to be a focus on what they serve rather than what the place looks like, not that it's shabby inside, far from it. It's plush decor stands the test of time. It's not huge inside so if you want to visit I would suggest booking, especially at the weekend. They have recently placed a few tables outside so alfresco dining is now an option. Food wise it's excellent. Being so close to the sea I would suggest opting for seafood and would recommend trying their mussels in white wine and garlic sauce along with fresh ciabatta, for dipping of course. Coast is fully licensed so you can grab a glass of wine to accompany your food - the wine list is pretty extensive. The staff are great, there's a good mix of experienced servers as well as those who are taking up part time roles between their studies but don't worry the service never changes - top class! Can't recommend Coast enough - the bill won't break the bank but you'll feel like it should cost more than it does!

Lapamanzi Restaurant - Never seen so many giraffes

The outdoor yellow paint and the big giraffe wound around the lettering was enough to draw me in - you know that saying never judge a book by its cover well I always do and sometimes I am disappointed but only sometimes! Inside is hilarious - there are literally giraffes everywhere! There are shelves coming down with giraffe ornaments, cuddly toys, books, magnets and cups. There are giraffes drawn on the chalk board telling you what's on the menu - there is even a five foot something giraffe that stands by the door and, judging by all the photographs on the walls, is something of a local celebrity! I ordered a diet coke (this is my only small complaint - instead of a can i got a glass which tasted like the stuff that comes out of the machine and not the real stuff!) and a toastie with chips. The girl did not squirm when I asked for chicken, chilli sauce and pineapple therefore I will definitely be back - in total my bill was around a fiver - happy days. When I forst saw the giraffe I kind of thought they should wind their necks in - get it? necks? never mind.... since eating there though I am very pleased to have discovered the little giraffe paradise in Holywood!

I always knew there was a wee cafe in this location but it never really appealed to me as there's so much choice further down Holywood High Street. First up I am going to start referring to this place as the Giraffe Cafe - the reason is simple - it's full of giraffe decor - prints, trinkets, soft toys and even a 4 foot statue. I'm not sure what relevance the giraffes have but they are a nice friendly addition to a quirky cafe. This place doesn't have the glitz and glamour of other Holywood eateries but it's simplicity is what makes it. The menu is made up of old comforting favourites like egg and chips, simple ham and cheese toasties and what I went for, fat chicken goujons. The food and drinks won't break the bank either - A meal will set you back just over £5 and you can get a pot of tea for £1! Not often you can get a hot beverage for a pound these days! The food is great - as mentioned it won't win any culinary awards but it will fill a hole in your stomach. Go in and grab a seat, one of the friendly members of staff will serve you at your table - I thought that was worth pointing out as sometimes in these type of places you have to order at the counter. There's a mix of clientele in this wee cafe, yesterday there were families, teenagers and a few older ladies who looked like they'd been regulars for years. My advice is that if you're sick of the pomp an ceremony of other Holywood Cafes then give the Giraffe Cafe a go!

The venue gives off a welcoming vibe with its red brick walls and candle lights creating an intimate atmosphere. They also have a spacious alfresco dining out front for those hot summer night as it was tonight. For starter I had crispy chilli beef (with lime & coriander mayonnaise). This delicious salad was bursting with flavour. Chillies and lime - beef has never tasted so good! And Scallops the richness of the black pudding is magic with the clean taste of the scallops - delicious! My main of lamb rump was a good sized serve. Worth having again! I also managed to swipe a taste of the Barbary duck breast I can vouch that it was melt-in-the-mouth perfect and came with a very generous amount of the sauce, fondant potato & vegetables. When it came to dessert Chocolate mouse though, was an absolute knock-out. I had a really good night and excellent service from Ben and his team! I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu, including the Sunday roast and bring my son as kids eat free! 405 Upper Newtonards Road, Tel: 02890671105

There was a 10/15 minute wait for a table but that was grand after all its sunday morning brunch time. I ordered the best of the market breakfast (see pic) and asked for my tea to be served at the same time. Food came out quickly but I didnt get asked if I wanted any condiments, had to ask myself. I was about half way through breakfast as well before I had to remind them id also ordered a tea. This came without milk so had to ask for that too. So the food itself was good, ive had better, ive had worse. I didnt like the very crispy slice of fried soda, personally I prefer a nice soft soda farl to mop up sauces and egg. Potato bread was ok and the rest nice but not mind blowing. Overall its not bad. Lovely setting, friendly, if not forgetful staff. Id come back but ive had better breakfasts. Maybe try a lunch or a dinner next time.

I visited yesterday (Saturday 14.05.2016) with my sister and we had an extremely enjoyable leisurely lunch sitting on said balcony, watching bustling St George's Market, soaking up atmosphere and listening to wonderful live music. Service was good and there were a few Vegetarian options on the menu. It's a pity these Vegetarian dishes aren't more clearly marked with a (V) plus a few more Vegetarian dishes would be great, but at least they are there. Caroline S ordered a Veggie Breakfast (£6.75) which was the most impressive looking Vegetarian Fry I've ever seen, plus she assured me it tasted fantastic. I opted for a pasta dish with butternut squash, walnuts, onion and rosemary (£6.95). Delicious food in generous portions at reasonable prices. We managed to work our way through glasses of Pinot Grigio, Rose and Prosecco. St George's Market Bar and Grill also do the most amazing pure apple juice and Prosecco cocktail which we thought the best Prosecco based cocktail we have ever tried. Most of the restaurant ingredients are fresh and local, coming from the market itself. We arrived at just before 1pm and stayed until after 3pm as we had such a wonderful time there. Even inside this restaurant is beautiful due to natural light coming through a skylight rooftop, however the best tables are definitely on the balcony. I'm already plotting my return...
