No Bar is one of the first bars in LA that I was able to digest without feeling overwhelmed and too "LA". Like people mentioned it has a dark setting and is very comfortable. The bartenders are very nice and their drinks are made well. Spent my 24th birthday here and had a grand time. If you are looking for a club like bar...this is not the place. This was a random find one evening when I was out with friends. We kind of just stumbled into No Bar, and I was pleasantly surprised by how cool, yet laid back this place was. It's not much to look at inside or out: there are few tables and little seating, a straight bar in the main room, and one billiards table. But the atmosphere is pretty chill, which is saying a lot for LA, where most bars are full of judgement and pressure to be super-cool. There are no lines at No Bar, and I like that. read more

This bar is pretty small inside. It has a loungie feel to it, dim lit, couches lining some of the walls with other little puff things to sit on. There is a room with a pool table it in, but I think it's a mini one (not regulation size). The bar is crowded on the weekends. You kind of have to fight to get a drink. My drink was pretty weak...this was the 4th bar I went to that night, so I was pretty over it. It's chill during the week to come here when its empty! And is it necessary for 3 guys to stand checking ID's at this place?? The capacity can't be that high of a number! One of them gave my friend shit for no reason...trying to be super cool, but he wasn't. Seriously, what is with all the rude people these days? Unforgettable: I came here recently -- on Labor Day, I think -- and it was closed. I eventually went to a dive bar that smelled like fart and finally ended up at an Irish bar that had a bartender with the IQ of a grasshopper. So I've had this place in my must-do list, since I'm stubborn like that, and especially because I had such a sh*tty day that time. Tonight seemed to be the perfect night, since I'd just had dinner nearby. This is a decent spot! It's the loungy type of divey, meaning there *is* a jukebox and a pool table, but there are also sofas with little tables with candles, and it's dark. So it's NOT your typical divey place where the jukebox plays Dire Straits and your uncle look-alike is trying to buy you a drink. The bill: 3 Makers Mark whiskeys on the rocks 4 vodka mixed drinks + Tax ________________________________ = $29 True, the first impression was not so great: the doorman was wearing some kind of sheriff-ish badge -- as if *that* would make anyone have extra respect... A rare gem in noho for sure. Wide open lounge seating and clean cut, friendly crowd. Bartender was fantastic. Very friendly and welcoming. Their happy hour is literally 2 drinks for the price of 1 and it goes till 10pm!! Nobody offers prices that cheap while still offering a classy, clean and well designed venue. I enjoyed everything about No Bar. Left spending just $32 bucks for two people to have about 6 strong drinks a piece. LOVE this place. Me? I like a bar that's mellow, serves consistently good drinks, has friendly staff and is stumbling distance from my house. Enter NoBar. Jenn took me here when I first moved to the hood and I have been consistently a fan. I don't get out as much as I used to, but every time I visit I find I am comfortable, can have a conversation and enjoy my cocktail. It's described as a dive bar, but, in my eyes, there's too much intention in the look for it to be a true dive bar. I actually love the decor. It's lush, but in an understated way. The lighting is perfect. You can tell they put a lot of work into the design. I'd say i mostly see kids in their 20's there, but they are well behaved so it's not an issue. I don't know that I would go there to meet someone new. I think it's better to go with friends for a drink and a game of pool. The manager is great: friendly and knowledgeable and makes a pretty good manhattan. They threw a great New Year's Eve party this year that was exactly what I wanted an NYE celebration to be. See? They do everything right. On the weekends it gets a little loud, but I prefer going to bars on weekdays for that same reason. read more

Pros: Reasonable priced drinks ($7.00), cool decor Cons: Kinda small Went here with some friends after our friend's play down the street. On the outside it looks like a random dive bar, but the interior is actually pretty cool and modern. There's also a pool table if you want to play pool. They also have a jukebox with a pretty diverse selection of songs. You get to pick 3 songs for $1.00. The only problem is the spot is actually kinda small. Luckily, the prices for drinks were relatively reasonable. For 3 crown and cokes, my tab was only $21 bucks. Not super cheap, but not super expensive either compared to other LA bars. read more

I found the NoBar back when it opened, I'm guessing in 2002 or 2003. For it's location, it's by far the trendiest place in NoHo. And it's well done. Good drinks, but the interior is really, really well done. Could be mistaken for any place in Hollywood. Dress up and go hangout. read more

Pool table, Juke box, and beer. That's all you really need and this place has it. It's a great place to go for a bar. This is definitely not a dive bar. The drinks are good, and this place is packed on the weekends. It's a great place, I can't blame the people. It is slower during the weekdays and a very nice place to drink a beer and chill. The beer selection is decent. It has the major labels. It didn't have Fat Tire though which I was hankering for some one night. However, that does not stymie from going there. We took over the back room (which is big enough for a party of 25), and had an absolutely great time! Highlights: Amazing Happy Hour - 7pm-10pm 7 days a week! (BOGO beer/wine/cocktails) Great Atmosphere - low lights, warm decorations, and comfortable furnishings Unpretentious - everyone was there to have a good time (and succeeding!) Listen. I love this bar because it's walking distance from my house. We come here all the time. BUT I went there tonight and ordered three drinks: a Ketel soda, Jameson ginger, and a Hendricks and tonic. And trust me, I'm an alcoholic, but these were not top shelf. We asked the bartender if they were what we asked for, and she assured us she'd poured from the respective bottles. I'm sure she thought what she was giving us was fine, but I have a suspicion they must have filled the bottles with low shelf, because these tasted like rubbing alcohol. Come on, it's NoBar. It's that place that's gonna get mislabeled as "divey" but I'd call it a neighborhood lounge bar (Dive bars and their clientele are never this design-conscious or clean). The street corner of Cartwright and Magnolia IS definitely "divey", it's near what I'm told is the "original" Poquito Mas, yet just two blocks from a liquor store I've spotted on "Intervention" (she was trading BJs for alcohol), in a neighborhood full of hidden music and production studios, where I've had my license plate stolen THREE times. I've never felt in danger in this neighborhood but "sketchy" is a good word. I live just blocks away, and my block is lovely. So yeah, there are a lot of contradictions here. It's dark but clean with cozy couches and candles. The crowd is "cool" but friendly. It's Hollywood-lite but welcoming. A good neighborhood bar with a nice pool table and decent jukebox and the perfect volume to have a conversation. It's a good bar if you live in the Valley, and a GREAT bar if you can walk there. It was a Friday night, and I had enough of a day off to actually do something in the evening. I'm new to the area so I decided to check out Yelp, see what's pretty popular around here, and go check it out. I ended up going to No Bar around 10:30 when things were starting to pick up. I was pleasantly surprised by the dark, lounge-like atmosphere of this place. I love dark places, so that was a plus. The $1 pool table is nice, although it's fairly crowded in that room and there was a huge line to use it. The couches in the other room seem like they would be pretty fun to relax on. The drink prices were barely over what I would consider a dive, but I could walk out of the place feeling *just* right after spending only $10. That's good enough for me! I came here by myself and left by myself at midnight. Didn't really talk to anybody except for the bartender for drinks. My verdict is that it's a pretty cool place. I like people watching and there are lots of different people here to watch. I don't think I would come here alone again, but if I had someone with me I'd definitely come back here again. I'd probably be in around 9 PM so I could get a seat and relax. It also takes a long time to get drinks later in the evening when things pick up, but the service was good, and I just liked the vibe after I stuck around for awhile. Very chill, relaxed atmosphere. I don't understand why these kinds of bars keep coming up when I search for punk or metal dive bars. its the closest bar to my place, its dark, comfortable seating, a pool table (dollar a game) hipster jukebox, not much of a beer selection, pretty laid back, but totally not even remotely a punk dive. So the bartender ignored us for a solid 10 minutes, and the bar wasn't even packed... Our frugal attempts to get her attention were quite useless, until I sort of shouted at her when she was directly in front of me, so there was no escaping noticing us. Then she redeemed herself by becoming almost overly attentive (and our 5 beers came out to be $10.50 somehow). What else? There is a pool table; the place wasn't super packed on Wed night; and my favorite part was that the noise level was low enough that you could hold a decent conversation without yelling (seriously, it's really hard to flirt while screaming!) No Bar - is a great place to hangout out on the weekend. The crowd is younger around mid-twenties, early thirties. Everyone is very polite, nice and easy to talk to. I haven't found any egos there to deal with. Paula is an awesome bartender, as is Paul. Parking is easy. Drinks are very fair. The music playing is very good and at a great volume. Easy to talk over and hear each other. Very hip vibe. One of the best in Los Angeles. Not ever too crowded, just right usually. read more

I made a YELP account because I felt like this needs to be seen by the public: Stopped by here for a late-night drink on Christmas with a friend. Crowd wasn't too bad, bartender was nice, drinks were moderately priced. Crowd was young, middle-class preppy. All in all, a nice environment. I noticed some heavily tattooed rocker looking guys come in and thought "Oh great" but surprisingly they were all very respectful and just looking to get their christmas buzz on like the rest of us. I was having a pretty decent time until I saw something happen that will make sure I never set foot in this bar again (same goes for everyone else I know). For one reason or another the bouncer walked up to one of these kids, grabbed his jacket, and actually "forced" it on him. There was no words exchanged beforehand. There was no "Excuse me sir, we need your jacket to be all-the-way-on inside the bar." Which is what he should've said instead of just walking over there and doing that. Nothing got out of hand however and one of them agree'd to walk outside with the bouncer to have a talk...but on the way out I noticed this bouncer push the other guy right out the door. I've never seen such a vulgar display of power abuse in my life. I dont know if this bouncer has something against those people, people with tattoos, or white people in general...but I was actually mad after witnessing this. Seeing a middle-aged bouncer have a power trip and take his aggression out on someone half his sized for no reason is NOT how I wanted to spend christmas. The best part is NONE of the group of guys looked drunk or tried to start a fight whatsoever. Its dark, its got tables, chairs, and a bar. No cover, decent bartenders, and a pool table in back. The music is not inspiring, and the crowd is not all that friendly, though there are plenty of weird dudes patrolling and hitting on women. I like this place. What can I say? It's never crowded, has good tunes on the juke box, and is really dim and sparkly. My biggest complaint is the small bathroom. Not to be crude, but one toilet? This place was pretty cool for just chilling with some friends and catching up. I don't really like places where you have to scream to be heard, so extra star for that. They've got lots of comfy seats, dim lighting, and some interesting wallpaper. The only downside would be that it's in the middle of nowhere.
