After a lot of Yelp-ing and Angie's List-ing, Ray won our business with his great reviews as well as being able to work us in before our targeted move-in date (you would not believe how many of the painters I contacted were booked months out!). It certainly didn't hurt that his quote came in at literally half of what we expected to pay based on advice from our realtor and other painters' reviews. Ray is a thorough communicator and provided text updates throughout the days that he was at work on our condo. He is very attentive and took the initiative to handle issues we hadn't even considered. Outstanding work done by Ray and Danny! Ray was extremely responsive when I reached out to him for a quote and visited at a time that was convenient for me. The quote he gave me was by far the most affordable and when chatting with him that day, you could feel the confidence he had in himself and the pride that he felt for his work. Recently called to have existing shelving removed from three closets, then have walls patched/repaired, and then painted. Ray was eager to start and wanted to come by asap to pick up a 50% deposit so that he could start the next day. His eagerness to pick up such a large deposit should have been our first clue. We emptied the contents of three closets into our living room. When he gets here he looks at the shelves and points out the supports are glued to the walls. He said he can't do this because he doesn't have the correct tools. Huh? A contractor doesn't have tools??? As a result our house has been in chaos for two weeks while we booked a reputable painter. I think it's also worth pointing out that many of his recent 5-star reviews are from all over the country (San Fran, San Diego, Minneapolis, Overland Park KS). Since it seems unlikely that a painter is traveling around the entire country for work, I have to question the validity of these reviews. There is something very off here. He was able to squeeze us in 2 days after my initial phone call and worked well with our schedules when we were out of town for the day. When we got back, we were very disappointed in the state our house was left in. There was paint splatter all over our wood floors, mirrors and cabinets. There was dried paint and dirty brushes in both our bath tub and kitchen sink. It tooks us hours to clean up the mess. I can't tell you how good Ray is without telling you about how bad my place was. I have the painting skills and palette of a 5 year old. Paint on adjacent walls, yep. Paint on the ceiling and caulking, double check. Ray came in and not only fixed all of that, he took care of issues other painters would have politely skipped over without a hefty fee. I had a crack - valley, actually - that ran all the way down my bedroom wall. He caulked that up, sanded it down and you can't tell it was there. I also made a poor color choice for Ray. He sent regular photo updates. I decided I really hated it and Ray was nice enough to spend his day off painting over it. That saved me big time as I did not need my room to look like a bird's egg. He could have easily walked away and made me live with it until he was available again - and rightly so, as I screwed up. The place now looks amazing. Ray came in at almost half the price of other highly rated painters on here. He did so much more for an amazing price. We closed on our first condo last week and knew the first order of business was laying down some fresh paint to cover up the dated yellow paint on the walls and lighten up the place. We entertained doing it ourselves to save some money but are sooo glad we decided to go with No Games Painter. Ray was easily accessible by phone (takes calls until midnight) and was able to swing by the condo the day we closed to give us an estimate. Ray gave quotes on each room as well as paint and supplies (uses Benjamin Moore Ben line paints) which all were fairly priced and estimated 3-4 days for our two bed two bath (1300 sq ft) unit. We were a little unsure of which gray we wanted to go with so Ray suggested a couple of popular options, and we ended up going with one of them (Revere Pewter). Ray and his partner started a couple days later and finished within three days. Throughout the process, Ray was very communicative and kept us updated on where the work was at each day. I was in and out of the condo regularly moving boxes and Ray and his partner were always hard at work every time I walked through the door. The condo looks amazing now and it is quite evident that Ray is a master of his craft. He even pointed out some fingerprint/splash marks on our master bathroom ceiling and painted it for us at no additional charge and offered to come back and touch up the walls once we are done moving everything in which was the icing on the cake for an overall great experience. Simply put, Ray is awesome. Needed some emergency paint work done and my previous painters were terrible. Found Ray a/k/a No Games Painter through Google and called him. He came over that evening and said, "Here, I'll save you some money," and then told me how to do the touch-up work myself and wrote down everything I would need. Being that I wasn't confident in my ability to do the job correctly, I told Ray I needed him to take the job. He came back the following day and got to work. He ended up going above and beyond the call of duty, as the touch-up paint I bought didn't match the original so he had to repaint my entire living room. Despite this, he didn't ask for a single extra cent, but I voluntarily gave him more money because of all the additional work he did. He has an amazing work ethic, is dependable, accessible, and has a ton of painting expertise (he shook a can of paint I had in my closet and told me the paint was most likely no good...we flipped the lid and indeed it was rusted). We had a good experience all the way through from the estimate to finishing the job. Ray was on time for the estimate appointment and sent us an estimate in a day. The painters were on time every day. You never know what you are going to get when you take wallpaper off, one room had two layers. They patched and sanded all the rough spots in the drywall and it was better than new. Took a lot of care in taping things off and all the paint lines are sharp. The front door looks like new. What a nightmare. One year ago, I reached out to Ray because I was planning to move to the Northside of Chicago. The Ray I dealt with at that time was pleasant, knowledgable and friendly. Unfortunately, I canceled due to never moving and an unexpected tragedy in my family. Fast forward to this year -- Because I remember the friendly customer service from Ray, I made sure I sought him out for a paint job as I will be moving this time. What a disappointment. I called Ray on Tuesday to set up and get a rough estimate. He immediately mentions that he just started back on the job that day, as he had been off due to knee surgery. He also mentions immediately how he needs jobs ASAP. Given that I caught him at this time, I thought "Ok, just my luck. This will work out easily". WRONG. Ray interrupts me several times during our conversation to let me know he needs to get back to work. That HE NEEDS WORKS (his emphasis). Well, okay, I'm trying to give you work, I think. Finally when I can get a word in edgewise, I tell him what I need painted. But that he can't come by until Thursday as that's when I will get the keys to the new place. He's okay with that and agrees for me to call him between 10 and noon. Thursday morning (8/22) he calls me at 10:13 am. Leaves a message, which I missed but called him right back. First off, as I'm explaining I am running a bit behind he immediately interrupts me and corrects me, thinking that I accidentally called the rental office. When I clarify that I know whom I am speaking to, he tells me he can't do the job for me, as he took another job. Why --- He needs the work. Sigh. And he keeps telling me that he called me the night before (he did not) and that I had asked him to call me (I did not). After taking a moment to calm down, I text him to let him know that I felt this was really unprofessional and due to him probably being in dire financial straits. He comes back basically saying that he's a married and honest man. and that he treats everyone the same. I get the same excuse --" I just came back from having a knee surgery done n I would have loved 2 work 4 U but yes I did need 2 look at any work needed but I seen a job and they booked me. I take pride in every part of my day 2 treat people with respect. I'm sorry. " Honestly, it really left me confused and ticked off. How was I suppose to book someone for a job I had no estimate for and wasn't given one? And given that I told Ray I wanted to hire him the 26th, and probably earlier had he given me an estimate, what was I suppose to do?!?! I would think twice about working with Ray. Especially if he tells you he needs the work several times. You might end up being overlooked because you didn't give him work ASAP. read more

After a brief look around and answering a few questions, Ray was honest with me that given the detail of the trim/wainscoting, size of the place and my timeline, it was unlikely that he (a one man show) would be able to do it justice and that I would likely need an entire crew to complete the job quickly. We hired Ray recently to paint our entire condo before we put it on the market to sell. Ray was very easy to work with and did a great job painting our condo. Fantastic work! Ray finished three rooms for us one day earlier than projected and went above and beyond. He patched spots we didn't even notice were there and even repainted our ceiling to make sure it looked perfect without charging extra. After all that, he even picked up an extra can of paint for us so we could do touch-ups as needed since we would be moving furniture and possibly bumping walls.
