*5 check-in's here :-) last updated August 2010 Best dog park! Following the arm of the Fraser River, this lovely trail is used by runners, dog walkers, and cyclists alike. The trail leads from this point all the way into Steveston. The trail is mostly gravel but may turn to pavement at some points west. This Dog-off-Leash park is a locally known Eagles nesting area. They flew by just above us and screeched in communication. It was pretty exciting. People with smaller breed dogs beware, as these birds of prey can make surprisingly large kills for their size. Sept 2010: We were astonished by the hundreds of Salmon literally jumping out of the water! Please, if anyone can find any more clear directions to this area, feel free to post them. I have included a link to the trail and parks in the area. http://stephansmap.org/richmond_dyke_trail.html

One of the best dog parks in the greater Vancouver area. Looking for a place for your best bud to run, chase balls, sniff around, meet various other dogs and humans, catch frisbees, and swim? How about fabulous views of the Fraser river, bald eagles, seals, ducks, herons, Mount Baker, ships, freighters, ferries, tugs, and beautiful sunrises/sunsets? We love this place and have been regulars for the better part of three years. People are friendly, and the park itself is pretty clean, very easy to get to...just take No. 3 Road south all the way to the end and park in the lots. It's completely what you make of it. It can be a quick/quaint 15-30 minute visit, with up to 500m (1km return) of trails on beautiful waterfront off leash space up until the Crown Packaging plant. The plant is easily and decently detoured with an on-leash path that overlooks local farms and the north shore mountains. In addition to the pleasant view, the walk around the plant is worth it because you can find several hundred metres of waterfront trails and additional opportunities to enjoy everything mentioned in the beginning. It can be a 40-60 minute walk including a 15-25 minutes on-leash jaunt (almost 1km) around the packaging plant. If you want more trail coverage, you can venture along the South Dyke trail westward to Steveston and back, an additional 6-10km return trip (depending on how much you explore the historic village) on an unpaved separated path. You can also head eastward towards No. 5 Road for 4.5km return trip, mostly along Dyke Road, but there is some separated unpaved path for a few hundred metres. These additional trails are all on-leash, by the way. Only the two areas east and west of the Crown Packaging plant are off-leash. South Dyke Off-Leash park has a water fountain for both dogs and humans in the west area near No. 3 Road, lots of benches along the way to stop and admire the views, and plenty of trash cans and zero excuses not to use them. It's a great park. Some tips to ensure enjoyment include; 1. There are free bags at the trail marker at the No.3 Road/Dyke Road parking lot. Lots of garbage bins. Please use them. I'd say 98% of visitors already do. 2. Be very mindful of the river conditions before allowing dogs to swim. 3. Be aware of fast bikes. Off-leash areas have separate paths, but dogs wander. On-leash paths can have a fair bit of traffic. 4. Be aware of predators - bald eagles and coyotes, especially in the early morning.

Great to walk all the dogs in the nursing home. Nature is beautiful to see as you walk in the beautiful location.

To start, of all the dog parks i've been to since i've moved here, the people by far are the nicest. they spend a lot of time with their dogs and there are a lot of families here, which is really nice to see. Located just north (i believe) of the airport, there is a large parking lot and a short walk to the beach. there is a path going to the end (which we didn't get to) and while there is a lot of big rock separately the river from the beach, there are substantial cleared areas so the dogs have easy access to the water in several places. As it was so hot there were a lot of dogs in the water - however there was a fairly strong current so i wouldn't advise encouraging your dog to fetch unless they are good swimmers. I met a lovely lady when i first arrived who gave me a layout of the land. she said if i walked there during low tide there was a great area towards the end of the park (you could tell it was the end because there was a pirate sign) where we could walk out quite a ways. will look forward to spending more time there when the weather is a bit cooler!

Posting a bit of an update to address a few complaints:…read more 1. There is now a lovely handicap accessible porta potty complete with pave stone pathway immediately to the right of the entry for the large dog area. 2. Yes, a few folks do sit in their vehicles while their dog is in the park. At least a couple of these people have health issues and cannot be with their dogs the entire time. We are a small community. We look out for each other. Please be understanding that sometimes there is more to the story than what you see. 3. I see more tourists not pick up after their dogs than residents. And let's face it, sometimes it's easy to be distracted speaking with friends, playing with other dogs, or engaging with visitors. If you find yourself at the park during a lull, there are several scoopers available. Grab a scooper, take a walk, and log some karma points. The smaller scooper is easier to dump into the bagged trashcans than the larger one (which requires a bit more talent). Or if you see a nearby singular poop that got missed, pick it up with a poop bag. We have a fantastic resource here. Cherish it. Take care of it, even if you are just visiting, And remember, with a little TLC m maybe we can hold onto this little doggie paradise for a long time.

Stumbled this little place by an accident but I'm so glad…read more First off: the area is super nice. Stunning massive homes. Some are gated. Most are just stunning. Massive beach. You can use the scenic way all the way into downtown. Beautiful drive! Now the park: it's an off leash dog park. I haven't been to any off leash dog parks in Canada except for Whistler. It's a gorgeous dog beach Baci and I love going for swim. Just take about .6 hours drive. Way too far. So glad to have found this. It's a beautiful, hikable dog beach. Baci had so much fun swimming, he went straight to the deep end while most dogs stay on land. He also had fun stealing sticks :P Trick was getting him to leave. He didn't want to at all. Till next time :)

This park is ok, I bike thru here sometimes. It's mostly for walkers and dog walkers to be honest…read more Not really bike friendly. The paths are narrow and when it gets busy it's not good for biking. I think part of the park is off leash but not exactly sure about that. It is a dog park though. It has a nice view of the Fraser River and has a bit of a beach, but again for playing fetch with your dog and stuff like that, not really for sunbathing or anything. There are also a few piers that are kinda cool. There is a small parking lot and lots of roadside parking. Like I said, it's ok if you wanna come for a walk, walk your dog or even have a picnic. Not sure if I saw any picnic tables but there are benches.
