This place is by far the best place in the city to go for your dog(s). My girl absolutely loves it always a great time.

Took Hope (https://www.facebook.com/pages/HOPE/162320257253072) here for the first time today and we had a wonderful time. it was a bit too hot for us (28C) so we took it easy and made sure we spent a lot of time plunging into the cold river. To start, of all the dog parks i've been to since i've moved here, the people by far are the nicest. they spend a lot of time with their dogs and there are a lot of families here, which is really nice to see. Located just north (i believe) of the airport, there is a large parking lot and a short walk to the beach. there is a path going to the end (which we didn't get to) and while there is a lot of big rock separately the river from the beach, there are substantial cleared areas so the dogs have easy access to the water in several places. As it was so hot there were a lot of dogs in the water - however there was a fairly strong current so i wouldn't advise encouraging your dog to fetch unless they are good swimmers. I met a lovely lady when i first arrived who gave me a layout of the land. she said if i walked there during low tide there was a great area towards the end of the park (you could tell it was the end because there was a pirate sign) where we could walk out quite a ways. will look forward to spending more time there when the weather is a bit cooler! read more

One of THE best off-leash parks in the GVRD, this park boasts a large grass field for long sessions of fetch and a great beach for some swim time for your pooch(es)! It also has a few great trails, which allow you and your dog to have a nice walk together to bond. I've been bring Rusty, my Havanese, here ever since he was a pup and it's his favourite place on earth. 99% of the owners here are great and I've never had a run in with some improper owner that can't control their pet (*cough cough* downtown area, I'm talking about you). Pay attention to the tides, I'm generally there early in the morning or about 4pm to get the low tides. Plenty of logs on the beach to sit on and watch your mutt have a blast. read more

This is probably my favorite off-leash dog park. First off the gravel parking lot is huge so parking is never a problem. There is a large grassy area in the front next to the parking lot. The grass can sometimes get very long as it isnt always frequently, but the dogs dont mind and there is always a pathway for us to get thru. One there you have your option of a few short trails, a jog or bike along the dyke heading straight to the beach. Its fresh water, a small off branch of the Fraser I believe, and it is affected by the tide. During low tide there tends to be more sandy beach and during high tide it tends to have some larger rocks and wood on the beach, but you can usually (even during high tide) walk a little further down the beach to find good sandy areas for the dogs to play. read more

Our chow loves to go swimming, and usually drinks a lot of water in the process. So, fresh water rather than ocean water is a must, and for that McDonald Beach Park is ideal (although silty) even at high tide. We've measured the salt content at high tide, and it runs about 2 ppm of salt (compared to 30 ppm for ocean water). For those who know chows, you'll know that getting a reaction is next to impossible. When we arrive at McDonald Beach (http://www.pansy-paws.com/dogwalks/mcdonald-beach-park/) however, our chow becomes quite animated and watches our final approach to the parking spot. Once out of the car, she makes a beeline for the beach ... quite an endorsement. Definitely watch the tide tables, we prefer to go when the tide is below 3 meters, giving ample sand to run and play. Tides higher than 3 meters leave minimal sand and mostly logs. read more

Dog owners, you're going to love bringing your canine companions to McDonald Beach Dog Park. The name says it all! It's a spacious and dog friendly park that's entirely off-leash! With all sorts of terrains, one has several options to keep their pet(s) entertained. I jokingly call this place a vacation for my dog because there's an abundance of sticks, water, and dogs! The drive there alone is beautiful and parking is plentiful. I can guarantee that your dog is going to love you a lot more for bringing them here. It would be wise to pack some dry towels and sandals since this is a beach and the sand from the Fraser is very fine. read more

Basically a trip to McDonald Beach for your dog is like a trip for you to the Waterslides circa age 6- they love it here!! Although McDonald has other functions like a boat launch the majority of users come here to let their dogs run in the soft sand along the Fraser and in some cases let them go for a swim. In the case of our Vizsla, Ranger that would be both, and lots of it. The area is offleash and thankfully the agro dog quotient is very low. Lots of playful interaction between the dozens- sometimes close to a hundred plus pups down there on a weekend. The one minor downside is that although there is a nice sandy strip along the approx. 700 metres of waterfront, 60% of the water line is rocky. Ergo, if your pup likes to swim, you should take him/her towards the end of the beach where it's all sand. Make sure you bring poop bags and a few doggy towels to dry off your pooch after. I'm sure Ranger would give this place 6 stars but he can barely type, let alone log on to yelp. read more

Came here with a friend to let her dog run around on the park. Park has enough space and everyone seems to be respectful of the surroundings and being sociable with their dogs which is appreciated. read more

One of our very favourite spots especially when the dog needs a swim. He smells much better after a swim here than in the ocean. Won't go on too much on this one as the other reviews are pretty bang on. I know this isn't technically Vancouver but we can see it across the river and we come here all the time. read more

I borrowed my human's-Dad's account to write this review because I don't have my own. I really enjoy coming to this park with him because there is plenty of beach area for me to explore when the tide is out or for other dogs to go for a swim (I don't like swimming; just dipping my paws is enough). There is also so much off-leash area that I can run and run without running out of space. There are a couple of picnic tables and a restroom for the humans, plus several garbage bins when I have to poo and my Dad needs to pick it up and throw it away properly. The only part I don't like is that there isn't an area for my Dad to clean off the mud and sand from my paws, but that's just me being picky: I don't like lying down with my paws so dirty. A little bit dusty is okay but not super dirty after having explored the beach and the nearby forest trails. There's a sign that there can be coyotes in the area, but I don't explore in the woods where they might get me since I'm only a 13-lb Bichon and my fangs aren't big enough. What a great dog park! Plenty of space to roam around and play on different terrains: a grassy area, a sandy beach area with water access, and a gravel path trail. We stopped by twice on a weekend trip, and the dogs we came across were friendly and their owners were responsible. Our dogs loved it here! I'm not sure if we just missed it, but, I didn't see a dog poop bag station, so, best to bring your own bags just in case! read more

This is one of the best off-leash dog parks I have been to. I go every weekend and every weekday that I book off work. My dog loves it there. Unfortunately, we did run into a "gentleman" on Sunday morning that seems to have issues keeping control of his dog. And himself. To break up our dogs playing with eachother, he decided to boot my dog in the ribs which sent my 65lb 11month old puppy flying and yelping towards me. I don't know the mans name but if you come across a black lab looking dog and an old man in a dark green rain slicker, keep a wide berth. read more

Great dog park with friendly people! Lots of interaction. My dog loves it here BUT be on guard for the FIRE ANT infestation in the grass above the river. There are signs posted at the parking lot but not enough of them. Very painful stinging bites that you really want to avoid for your children, dogs or you! read more

My dog Tyson and I were there last Sunday September 27th 2015 and ran into a foster pup named Doug also apparently going by Cadbury, they had a good play and I am actually interested in possibly adopting him... I haven't been to mcdonald beach for about a year. It was a bit messy the last time I was there so I kind of took a break. Someone has done a great job cleaning it up. I wish I knew who so I could thank them. My dog big loves the water so this is a great place for him to go an play with other dogs and do some swimming. I wish the boat launch traffic wasn't there but if you stay away from the launch you shouldn't have anyproblems. read more

Great dog park with responsible dog owners.Far from traffic and has a nice view across the beach. The most popular dog park in richmond because of the clean beach and has everything a dog could ask for. There is a fairly large field close to the parking lot and its takes about 15 minutes to reach the end of the off-leash beach. I think that theres a leashed trail at the end of the beach. There are a much more big dogs that there are small dogs. read more
