This review is about the lake. As I brought my kayak, this is not about boat rental business FYI. I used a shade between bushes to build my inflatable kayak but there was additional prohibit zone to protect environment, you have to get in the water at "beach" side which is infront of parking. This is not real beach for human. This beach for birds. Honestly to dip in the water from there needed guts. So filthy with birds dropping and over produced algae in the water. Even I had water shoes, I didn't want to put my feet on it. I guess City of Burnaby don't care about it. It's shame other lake has dropping cleaner. There was old guy who has sitting on a chair and just monitoring. That's it. After paddling, you would see some lotus flowers on the side of lake (July 30,2021) Lots of blue coloured dragonfly will stop over too. It was magical moment. You can't see those from land. Only for the people who were on the water like boat renters. Washroom was clean enough.

As a cyclist, I am not a fan of this park. This park is not bike friendly. The park itself I guess is ok, but unlike Stanley Park, or Central Park etc. there are not too many trails or paths to ride here. I noticed when I rode in there was a sign saying no riding on the boardwalk, the beach and other areas. I guess if you're just going for a walk or something it's ok but even then the boardwalk is quite narrow. I think I'll pass......

Nice spot in Burnaby for a walk! Gets pretty busy on a sunny day. The path currently goes in one direction, and it's a nice park to admire nature around the lake. There's also free parking, which is always nice.

Nice park for a walkabout. There are boardwalks around most of the shoreline, except where it cuts back to the road or the path goes into the woods a bit. It's marshy with lots of skunk cabbage and vegetation growing out of the water. There are some neat looking trees that have been uprooted but still growing sideways. There are several small parking lots around the perimeter of the lake. Usually not a problem to find parking, it just depends where you want to start walking from. The path goes by Shadbolt centre for the Arts, and the Century Gardens attached to it. The field outside Shadbolt is where live concerts are held in the summer. Pro tip: You can rent canoes and listen to concerts from the water. There's a boat rental place on the east side with tons of canoes.

This is by far one of my most favourite local spots for a run or walk. With the parks great scenery it definitely attracts a lot of individuals. Parking is quite easy to find as there are many parking locations throughout the park itself. This place is quite busy as many locals use the trails especially during the summer months when the weather is warmer. This location is very centralized and is tucked between north and south Burnaby. You have great scenery from the lake itself to an oasis of nature and wildlife. If you were to run or walk around the park itself it is roughly about 5 km. For those who are interested in Art there is also a Art museum close by, and also a great restaurant near the park. The park is maintained quite well as the Park services take care of the gem of a location on a frequent basis. Definitely well recommended!!

One of the best spots to enjoy the beauty of Vancouver, take a long quite walk in ur solitude or just chill with ur friends n family on any day. Tranquil beauty of the lake , side walk and a splendid park will take u far away from the noise of the busy world. Walking your pet here is amazing. There is a small water stream going beside the park somewhere that fills the air with its sounds of water flowing down. To many times, i happen to cross this area n never did i realize or had time to check it out. And when i did , it was mesmerizing. Never too late. There is a old village museum close by where you can take ur kids to explore n have a ride on the crousal. Infact a fancy restaurant called "hart house" is close by too The lake surrounded by park reflects sky blue n green in summer time n all white in winters. It looks equally beautiful though. It seems like poet in me is talking now. Go check out this place plz.

If you live within walking distance to Stanley Park, it's so easy to become a snob towards other parks in the area so I make sure that I get out of the city at least once every other week if not more often. It was a perfect crisp and sunny autumn holiday Monday morning and we decide to visit Deer Lake Park - far enough that we had to take the freeway but close enough to come home in late afternoon to walk the dog. We picked a perfect time of the year with fall foliage. Everywhere we turned, there were red, yellow and green. The loop trail around the lake is about 4 km on a boardwalk protecting the bog vegetation around the lake. The sections of the trail along the lake offer views of the lake, distant mountains, water fowls, and bog vegetation on a 360-degree canvas although you can't escape the view of the residential high rises dotted along Kingsway if you look south. Some parts of the trails lead you pass exclusive private residences on narrow shaded streets. For those members of your families who like to run and roll around, there are also many vast green lawn areas in the park. An art gallery, a village museum, a performing art centre and the Hart House restaurant will satisfy those who like to read, touch and eat. I particularly enjoy wandering on the grassy slope between the lake and the performing arts centre. It reminds me of Hampstead Heath in London. It's a perfect park for an easy hike and tranquility without leaving the metro area.

This is a beautiful park to take a stroll on a sunny day. The paths are easy to walk on. You can rent a canoe to go around the lake if you are interested in some water activities. My only complaint is there is a fairly large Canada geese population so there are a lot of bird droppings to watch out for.

Deer Lake is one of the 2 nicer parks in Burnaby (the other being Burnaby Lake). What makes these parks really nice is that they generally don't get too packed, unlike Stanley or Central Parks. Parking is available in a few lots scattered around the perimeter. The largest lot is on the E side, where there's also a playground. To be honest, certain parts of the park (wilderness parts) aren't exactly maintained or landscaped, so there are plenty of dead trees, and the scenery isn't the most photogenic. With that said, there are new wooden walkways which make it easier to walk around the park. Unfortunately they're not quite wide enough for 2 groups to pass each other. Supposedly the walkways now go around the entire perimeter of the lake, but I can only confirm that the N half is covered. It takes about 45 minutes to go from one end to the other, at a leisurely pace. The nicest (landscaped) part of the park is the N side, where there's also a museum, as well as a large grassy area that would be good for picnics or rolling around.

Love this park! Great and easy trails, I come here for my short runs and walks. Trail is well marked.

While I know I should review this as a park (it is, after all, a park, and it looks like a nice one from all of the other reviews), I'm going to have to review it as a concert venue for the time being because that's the sum of my experience. I like water and trees and ducks and stuff, just so that's clear... As a concert venue, Deer Lake Park is great. We came here for the Cure show on 5/31/16 and had a great time. For those who are familiar with outdoor shows in this part of the world, Deer Lake Park is as if the Gorge and Marymoor Park had a baby together, and that baby grew up to be a polite, attractive concert venue all on its own. It takes good elements from both: a beautiful, suburban, arboreal venue (Marymoor) with a beautiful body of water behind the stage and plenty of vendors inside the concert grounds for food and drinks (the Gorge). The sound and lighting was fantastic, and all of the staffers we interacted with were nice and professional. Getting through line was a breeze, and there were ATMs inside and just outside. The lawn was nice and comfy to sit on with a blanket...not too much goose or duck poop to dodge. Sightlines were mostly good, although there were some guys who definitely need to review "tall guy concert etiquette" before going to their next show...dorks. We took mass transit from near downtown Vancouver to the show...it took about an hour each way and involved some transfers, but we were just barely not stupid enough to figure that out without a hitch. Actually, I think I was stupid enough to find plenty of hitches and not figure it out, but fortunately my girlfriend is a savvy traveler in exotic foreign lands like British Columbia, Canada (which, when you think about it, sounds like 3 countries rolled up into one, so yeah, exotic foreign land, pal).

Took the dog here for a nice walk last Sunday morning. We found free parking easily close to the museum. There were quite a few joggers, families and others with dogs but it wasn't too crowded. Our dog enjoyed running around the big field a lot. There were nice wooden pathways the majority of the walk. Some sections of the loop required us to walk out on the streets but it didn't bother us too much. It took us about an hour to loop around the lake.

Deer Lake is my favorite Park in Burnaby for sure. I come many times every year with the family for nice walks around the side of the park walkway by the lake. Sometimes it's a nice place for reflection and relaxing or a nice canoe ride. They have lots of wildlife Birds and happy faces. Anyone that likes nature should definitely check this place out. No deer however. If you have kids they have a nice playground in the center of the park near the art gallery. They also have a nice restaurant called the Hart house. Occasionally they have summer events as well Outdoors like the orchestra live music.

Even though I have lived in Vancouver all my life, I only recently heard about Byrne Creek Ravine,…read morewhich is located right by Edmonds Station. I can't believe that all this time there was a wonderful walking trail right by the skytrain station! Since I've discovered the trail, I have gone three times, and I intend to go semi-regularly when I want some exercise but don't have the time for a long hike. The trail is a loop and doesn't take long to complete -- no more than an hour (I can complete it in about 45 minutes walking at a fast pace), and it's not particularly challenging. But there are 200 stairs (I counted) you must walk up at the end of the loop (or walk down at the beginning, depending on which direction you go), and the stairs are a great workout. It's perfect if you want a little cardio or want to increase your fitness level. (Last time I went, I walked up and down the stairs three times, for a total of 600 stairs up.) The trail is quite flat, although there are areas with quite a few roots and after about 20 to 30 minutes (depending on how fast you walk), there is a steep, but short, incline and about two dozen stairs to walk down (or up, if coming from the other way), so people with mobility issues may have some trouble. Otherwise it's an easy trail, perfect for someone who is looking for an easy, beginner hike. The trail can also be quite muddy, so I recommend hiking boots instead of running shoes. I'd give the Byrne Creek Ravine trail four stars, but I am removing a star due to the behaviour of asshole entitled dog owners and my experience the last time I went. Dogs are permitted on the trail, but they must be leashed. Of course many dog owners disregard this rule which is a problem when their f*cking dogs can't behave. The last time I was there, after walking up the 200 stairs, I was off to the side of the trail (ie. I was not blocking the way), catching my breath and drinking some water, when a dog, who was off leash, came bounding up the stairs and ran towards me. I firmly yelled "NO" to the dog and tried to take a step back (which was hard, because I was off to the side and if I had stepped too far back I would have fallen several feet into the ravine below, seriously injuring myself). The dog owner came walking up the stairs, and instead of APOLOGIZING to me or telling his dog to stop bothering me, he started yelling at me, for yelling at his dog. When I told him to train his dog, he swore at me and told me to train myself! And then he proceeded to continue yelling and swearing at me as he walked off. He was a tall white man, and I'm a petite Asian woman. I doubt he would have behaved like that had I been a man. Also, I had seen them earlier, walking beside the creek, off the trail, which is not allowed, as it disturbs the plants and fish. And the dog was wet, indicating it had been in the creek, which is absolutely forbidden. All in all the Byrne Creek Ravine loop is a lovely little trail if you're short on time and the stairs are a great workout, but beware of irresponsible dog owners. [Yelp collections: Hiking]
