Last year I discovered a hiking group that hikes in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve (LSCR)…read moreevery Monday morning for a couple of hours. Due to my school, I was only able to go on one hike with them last year as I found the group just before the fall semester started, but this year I've gone on half a dozen hikes with them and look forward to many more. There are 65km of hiking trails in the LSCR, ranging from easy (such as the Rice Lake Loop) to challenging, for more experienced hikers. There are several intermediate trails, including a portion of the Baden Powell trail, and with all the different trails, it is a great area to explore and your hike can range from an easy one hour walk to a hike of several hours -- there's something for everyone. The LSCR is located between Lynn Headwaters Regional Park and Lynn Canyon Park, so you can combine a hike in the LSCR with a hike in Lynn Headwaters or Lynn Canyon for more variety. Another great thing about the LSCR is that it is transit accessible! You can take the #227 or #228 bus, or take the #210 bus to Lynn Headwaters and walk about ten to fifteen minutes to LSCR. This is the area that is on the other side of Lynn Valley Park. Had no idea this existed (or that…read moreit was technically a different park) until now. Parking is available in the nice large lot next to the water treatment centre. There are public washrooms here as well. Some of the trails here seem to be more like service roads. Very well maintained. There are plenty of bear warning signs too. Guess somebody got eaten at one point. Plenty of fellow hikers and dogs here for bears to snack on. I remember always seeing other people at some point. In other words, the place is pretty crowded during the summer months. The trails go quite a ways from here. Hikes can go from minutes to hours or days, depending on what one is looking for.

An update of Lynn Headwaters Regional Park is long overdue…read more First of all, several years ago, the signage on the outhouses in the park were changed to be gender neutral. I don't know if this was done because of feedback from the public, but I had made a complaint. In addition to the two outhouses, there are also some port-o-potties installed, but I have never used them because port-o-potties are disgusting; however, more toilets are never a bad thing. Second, I have been back to the park many times over the past several years, and I have now done more hiking trails. In addition to Norvan Falls, I have now done Lynn Loop, Lynn Headwaters Trail, Varley Trail, and yesterday, I attempted part of the Lynn Peak Trail with friends. I have done all the green (easy) and blue (intermediate) trails below Norvan Falls, as well as a portion of Lynn Peak, which is yellow (ie. difficult). I knew the Lynn Peak Trail would be challenging and I would not be able to complete it, but my friends and I wanted to try it. We never intended on completing it as we knew it would be too long and difficult, but we hiked for just over two hours and then turned back, which was our plan. There is no rule that you must finish a trail! I have no plans to ever attempt the more challenging trails past Norvan Falls, although one day I might hike up to Hanes Valley Junction, which is one kilometer past Norvan Falls. Lynn Headwaters Regional Park is a great place for hiking as there are so many different trails for all levels and you can go for an easy walk or a hike anywhere between 2 to 10+ hours, depending on which trails you take. There's something for everyone. It is also very transit accessible (either take the #210 or #228 bus), so that non-drivers have access to the park. It's little wonder that this is a very popular place for not only hikers, but for people going to a picnic just inside the park entrance or a swim on a hot day. Lynn Headwaters Regional Park is also a short walk to Rice Lake and other hiking trails in the nearby Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve. [Yelp collections: Parks and Gardens; Hiking]

Wanted to do a hiking trip while in Vancouver. Wanted something easy and not too far from the city…read more This was the perfect place. It was a nice weather to be hiking. Not too cold or hot. There are different types of trails. Easy, moderate and hard. My sisters and I opted for the easy trails lol. Don't let the easy trails fool you, it can be in the moderate level for some people. There were lots of stairs to climb on and couple were pretty steep. We had to take a detour on one of the trails. Luckily, there were markers on the trees to lead the way. It was a peaceful day to be hiking. We didn't encounter much hikers on the trails. There were more hikers while closer to the parking area. Have to keep in mind that there are no receptions. We Uber'd there so we need to Uber back as well. It took us some time to get a single reception on our phones. We walked around and finally was able to get a single reception and was able to request for a ride back to the city. Phew!
