The man who did my nails was gruff and he grabbed my hand/began cutting away (painfully) at the builder gel on my nails. I must have looked horrified as he then started angrily exclaiming that the nails were acrylic and had not been done at their establishment previously. Both were untrue and I asked him to stop cutting away at my nails. I was then hurriedly switched to a different nail tech. My nails were cut down per my request but at uneven lengths. The tech pointed this out to me and asked if it was okay. I said I preferred the lengths to match and be more uniform. At that point, the nail tech I started with stood up and told me to be patient and that they were not done. I never complained but simply replied to the second tech's question. As she continued doing my nails, I felt an intense burning sensation in my left index finger. She then applied liquid to the nail that left me even more uncomfortable as the burning intensified -- my nail had cracked through the builder gel to my actual nail. The burning continued and the tech gave me a shy smile. Things were wrapping up and I, once again, felt a sharp burning sensation. My same index finger was burning. The tech profusely apologized as I was now bleeding from the cuticle pretty briskly. I was disappointed as my previous encounters were fantastic and this was very off putting. Upon payment, I was made to feel like I had done something wrong as the gentleman who originally started my nails began chastising me for the entire encounter. I have had my manicures and pedicures last over a month and have typically had a great experience. I will give them another chance but will request to not have the gentleman who was very rude and made me feel extremely unwelcome and uncomfortable.

I finally did it for a wedding I'm in this weekend, and I am never turning back!!! She is hilarious, so fun, and incredibly good at what she does. Not to mention her prices are very reasonable. I got a full set of gel nail art for $50, and they are P E R F E C T. I'm not kidding. There is not a single flaw. It is without question the best manicure, especially gel mani, I've ever gotten. I had a pedicure gel done by the owner, and unfortunately, it was the worst service I've received…read morein years. The entire session took barely 30 minutes -- no soaking, minimal cuticle work, and zero nail clean-up. There was no massage, no hot towel -- nothing that would justify the price or even qualify as a proper pedicure. She clearly seemed rushed. In fact, the client who was there before me was still being helped when I left. The gel was applied sloppily, with polish all over the skin, and the overall result looked rushed and careless. I paid $51 and tipped $7 -- mostly because I didn't get a chance to inspect everything closely, and frankly felt pressured by the owner's impatient attitude and pointed looks. As expected, the gel started peeling off within 10 days. Gel polish is supposed to last at least three weeks, so this speaks for the quality (or lack thereof). Places like this feel more like assembly lines -- quick in, quick out, and zero attention to detail. Sadly, this wasn't even my first disappointment here. I came back out of desperation, but this was absolutely the last time.

I walked in to Joy Nails for the first time at 4pm the day before a holiday and the place was packed. It's smaller than a lot of nail places I've been in but they use the space effectively, with five pedicure stations and six manicure stations. I was super nervous I would have to wait a long time as people with appointments were walking in but they seated me within a few minutes. (They take walk-ins as well as appointments, which I'll remember for next time.) I can hang out forever in one of those foot-sized hot tubs so I was fine waiting. I don't love massage chairs for some reason - they always feel a little rough for me - but I will recline the crap out of a pedicure chair. No shame in my lounge game. My nail technician was very polite - and FAST. I think he was done in 30 minutes. Love it. If I want a relaxing experience I'll go to Del Monte but when I have a dinner to get to, I like to get in and out. Everything seemed clean and the prices are very reasonable. They don't have walls and walls of polish but the selection was good. They also do airbrushing, which intrigues me. I follow a woman on Instagram who is always showing off her rhinestones and other crazy nail art. I may try it, when I'm feeling frisky. I didn't spy any magazines so bring a charged cell phone or plan to work on your meditation. There is a TV in full view of everyone so maybe next time I'll plan my trip around Ellen. I'll be back!
